"I rented the property due to my daughter getting married at Merewood Country House Hotel."
Arriving late on Thursday night after the ceremony we had to be up early for the vows on the Friday morning. The boiler broke down so there was no hot water! I had to have water from the kettle to have a stand up wash!! An engineer attended to fix the problem which was a leaking valve, seemingly the owner did know there was issues and the engineer did say he would write a report with recommendations.
The kitchen was very good, well equipped. The bathroom was small but ok apart from no hot water to shower.
The bedrooms were poor apart from one, two really needed modernising.
The cleaning wasn’t good, tv and mirrors were smeared and the skirting boards needed cleaning.
I couldn’t recommend and I’m waiting a response to an email with regards to no hot water and the inconvenience this caused me at such an incredibly important day for me.

"We loved our stay at Oak Beck and are hoping to return to stay again later this year."
The amount of kitchenware provided was really helpful as we like to cook. It has very comfortable beds and sofas with lots of space and an excellent shower. It is incredibly well located with supermarkets close by, a 20-minute walk to the train station and a 15-minute walk to the lake.
We would definitely recommend it!

"We had problems with the hot water supply to both wash basins."
The upstairs wash basin hot water ran so slowly it wasn't practical to use. The hot water to the basement wash basin was non-existent i.e. it didn;t matter how long you left the tap running the water was always cold. Although thermostically controlled the showere ran hot and cold throughout a five minute shower. Outside of these issues Oak Beck was a lovely property which we would rent again subject to knowing that the hot water issues have been resolved. It would also be wonderful during the warmer months to sit out in the back garden where the table and chairs are situated on the other side of the small lane. Sitting outside by the waste bins isn't condusive to having a relaxing time.

"A really comfortable and surprisingly spacious base from which to explore this really lovely part of the world."
We particularly enjoyed being able to warm up in front of the log-burning stove after battling the elements. Good facilities (had everything we needed and a good selection of books, DVDs and board games) and a good location, even if it was a bit of a chore walking back up the hill after a big meal in the evening (but if there weren't hills this area wouldn't be the same). We even got a bit of a lake view from some aspects. Excellent for families with children - our two really enjoyed exploring this place and even discovered a waterfall in the back garden!

"We loved how cosy the house was and its location."
We felt is had everything we needed, beds were very comfortable and the shower was great.
There are no wine glasses, there was one but it had a huge crack and broke when I took it out of the cupboard.
The house needs the gas lighters filling as both were empty and the handle was already broken off the bread bin when we arrived.
There was an issue with water coming through the kitchen ceiling but Sykes sent a maintenance man within am hour and it was fixed. Great service
We would love to stay again

However as myself and my husband are in our 70's we had to be very careful negotiating all the steps throughout the cottage. It would be a good idea to point this out in the description.

"We did enjoy our stay at oak beck but wouldn’t return, Location was very good, house was clean and comfortable BUT it is advised as dog friendly which doesn’t only mean that the owners are happy for you to bring them, but should be suitable also."
The photos of the garden are very miss leading, the only access to an enclosed garden to the rear is actually a flagged yard 12 foot long and about 5 foot wide no grass! The second shared patio area is not free to let your dog roam as must be kept on a lead. Access to this yard was a bit tricky for most dogs as the steps are very big and even my German Shepard wasn’t happy stepping down and wouldn’t go toilet. Which did mean very early walks and late night walks for the dogs needs. So not what I would state as dog friendly but was a nice home, bit disappointed.

"His cottage was so cozy."
It was bigger than anticipated. There was an additional carpeted room in the basement to store any extra stuff. The utility room was well equipped, with a few washing capsules to use and some spare kindling for the fire. The kitchen was well equipped too, with spare dishwasher tablets, washing up gloves, fairy liquid, and bin liners to get you started. The dining area was spacious, as was the lounge. The outside area was safe for the dog, though it has an open garden beyond the gate so children and pets would need to be watched! The bathroom is newly kitted out. Missed a shaver socket for my electric toothbrush and a lock on the door would have been appreciated by the teenagers! Could have done with a bin and a shelf above the sink to put things on. The shower was lovely. Beds really comfy. Location is brilliant to travel all locations in the Lake District. Shops are within walking distance. Parking on the road but we never had any trouble finding a spot just outside the house. If you have any mobility issues, this is probably not the place for you as there are quite a few steps into and inside the house. Would definitely come back!

:
1. The TV position was to low to watch comfortably. It needed wall mounting or TV cabinet. TV was old model only Freeview available.
2. After walks with my dog I could not take him to the rear back door as the neighbours at the end of the terraces had put up a wooden gate and we could not gain access to the back door when needed.

It was lovely. However the property is advertised as pet friendly but we found this to be a slight problem as there is a small enclosed concrete walkway leading to a paved area which is open to other gardens. Unfortunately there is no grass for the dogs to toilet on. Unfortunately our dog is only used to toileting on grass so a bit of fake grass placed somewhere would have really helped! However i would definitely return to this property but without the dog!
