  • "Great stay."

We had 9 people.Parked 3 cars on the nearby streets no problem. Location is spot on! The house is spacious and the facilities are great the sauna is spot on! The only problem we ran into is that it’s advertised as 10 adults however the bunk beds are small and are for children.

  • "On the plus side: The location of Parkgate couldn't be better."

Walking distance to Windermere and Bowness with all their fabulous amenities, restaurants, pubs and coffee shops. Lovely big house, 9 people, a baby and dogs and we had plenty of space. Great kitchen, well stocked and a lovely big oven and hob. Great WiFi. On the downside..... The lounge furniture was so uncomfortable. The springs had gone in both sofas so once you sat down you are practically on the floor and can't get up. So we couldn't really relax together at night. They desperately need replacing. The bunk beds are too small, okay for very small children but any older and they're not practical. One of the single beds was listing, felt like I would roll out. Garden not as shown in the listing. It's been shortened to allow for more parking.....a good thing but we had two dogs so needed that space more. The 'lean to' conservatory was rough and ready, not practical and grubby but okay to sleep the dogs. However, the good stuff far outweighs the bad, so we would definitely go back BUT, those SOFAS need replacing.

  • "The location and size of property was excellent and the extent of games was a hit with the children however the cleanliness of the property let it down."

Upon arrival we found hairs in each shower tray, a dead fly in the top floor bath, tooth paste down the top floor sink, undusted skirting boards and prepared food from a previous guest still in the freezer. It really wasn’t what we expected for the price we paid for three nights away £1200! The blinds in the living room and first floor front bedroom didn’t work properly and some lamps didn’t work. More care and attention from both a cleaning and maintenance point of view is needed. This house could be amazing but the cleanliness let it down and did affect our stay and perception of booking with Sykes again.

  • "The house is very well placed just next to the shops of windermere and with most walks a short car journey away."

Beautifully decorated inside. What was particularly appreciated is big kitchen with table that could sit everyone, big lounge and games room downstairs. We always managed to park one car in the street and one on the next street over without problem.

  • "Thank you for a wonderful stay at your cottage."

The facilities were great; loved that the kitchen was so well equipped and the rooms were all a great size. Beds were comfy and showers were great. Very handy location as well. We had extended family with us and enjoyed the communal cooking, eating, planning and chatting in the lovely big kitchen. We wish we had 2 weeks to stay! Just a couple of maintenance things. We had trouble getting the lights to work in some of the bedrooms - not sure if the globes were broken (we didn't check). In the double room upstairs at the front of the house, the main light didn't work, neither did either of the little ones on the wall. Also one of the bedside lights in this room is broken (still works, but the ceramic bottom is broken). Thanks for a fantastic stay :-)

  • "Fantastic property, well located, comfortable and equipped with everything we needed."

We were 6 adults and 2 children and there was plenty of room to accommodate everyone. In particular the basement was great for the kids to play in on the rainy days with absolutely tons of games, books and DVDs to choose from. Any issues noted in previous reviews regarding cleaning and kitchen equipment seemed to have been resolved.

  • "The beds and pillows were not comfortable and definitely needed new pillows."

We did not sleep well. The whole house needed a good clean. The oven was dirty and the tray had not been cleaned. Needed some more kitchen implements and some more matching glasses (random selection of non matching and most items were worn down and damaged. No kitchen scissors either. The baths and shower had not been cleaned very well. The shower in the attic did not drain. Old dirty mop outside and could have done with a good clean. There were no pegs for the washing line. Downstairs basement toilet seat was broken. Definitely could not relax in the outside patio as the conservatory was filthy, the sliding doors dirty and no outdoor seating and was not a place to relax whilst looking at the neighbours mattress in their back garden.

We had to cut our stay short due to bad news at home. We tried our best to leave the house presentable given the quick nature of having to leave. The house is comfortable and clean with lovely decor and great facilities, but If I could give any feedback it would be that the lick of paint out front would do the inside more justice and the yard out back tidied up and a plaque with the house name out front. Great location and would defo return.

  • "The house is lovely and well equipped BUT the limited access to hot water was a BIG problem and took 4 days of phoning to be sorted."

This property is expensive to hire in the high season and hot water is required during the day for many reasons. Our young people had to have cold showers when they came in from activities and this is unacceptable. Unless the owner agrees NOT to do this again, as he has control through an app, this property is NOT suitable for the majority of families for example, families with babies and toddlers need access to hot water, active people need showers after a day outdoors participating in activities that the Lakes are renowned for and anyone elderly or with certain disabilities may also require access to hot water . The water problem is the reason why I have marked this property so low and that is a great shame as it would have been scored highly if that had not happened.

Not enough glasses in kitchen and the ones that were there were chipped. Beds need two pillows per person. Couldn’t use “adult size” bunk beds very unstable and difficulty to get in for a fully grown adult, however found the sofa bed and used that instead. Heating didn’t appear to be working Sunday pm but unsure of using the hive system?? Price expensive for the quality of the house have paid less for higher spec and comfort. We did have an amazing weekend but wouldn’t use that house again. First time that we used Skye’s we usually use lakelovers.
