  • "Disappointing to arrive to a broken hot tub despite calling to confirm if it was in working order prior to booking only 2 weeks in advance of the trip."

We paid extra for this lodge for the use of the hot tub and it wasn't fully functional for the whole of our trip. Whilst this is a lovely lodge with an amazing view it does need some attention internally - the cutlery drawer doesn't work properly and has clearly been 'fixed' previously with a screw. Some of the door handles work upside down due to again a quick fix. Overall, it is a beautiful lodge however it has been let down by the hot tub and some internal maintenance. It would also benefit from a little tlc and refresh of glasses as most were odd or plastic. We couldn't fault the maintenance team from Skyes or the Cumbrian hot tub company who came to fix the hot tub.

  • "Very disappointed that only one jet was working in the hot tub."

The whole reason I booked this lodge was to enjoy this facility, so it was a bit of a let down, especially when this had been fed back in previous reviews that this was the case. I was hoping it would have been sorted but obviously not.

  • "Beautifully located lodge."

Whilst bathroom and kitchen areas clean I would say that a good general clean and some maintenance is required (noted on previous reviews said same thing). The patio doors we had to clean on arrival as covered in sticky handprints. The hot tub still has only one jet working out of about 10 (as per previous reviews have highlighted). The patio furniture is a bit wobbly (table) and we took our own cushions for comfort. The radiator is leaking in the main bedroom en-suite.

  • "On arrival to our lodge, it had not been cleaned at all on the previous peoples stay!"

!! Bins full, lodge dirty, towels everywhere, beds and bedding a mess. Tried to contact constantly the number given by Sykes if there were problems, but it was like the phone was “off the hook”… didn’t even ring, all that came up was user busy. I ended up having the help of Parkdean reception, who managed to get in touch with Sykes. Cleaners were eventually sent but it was 2 hours after the 4pm arrival time before we could settle in to the lodge and unpack etc ( and all this with my terminally ill husband, not what we needed!!) Sykes did apologise, and refunded £50 as compensation. Stickle Ghyll lodge was set in a perfect position, however 4 of the 6 outdoor chairs were broken and as a whole inside and particularly outside the lodge, it all needed a bit of tlc… all starting to look worn compared to other lodges around it.

  • "We arrived for our Christmas visit on the 22nd December for 5 nights, we stayed at the same lodge for Christmas last year so were quite excited."

We know from our visit last year that the lodge was up for sale and it was quite obvious that nothing had been done to the lodge since our last visit so all wear and tear issues from last time were more apparent this time, I believe with a bit of TLC this lodge could be amazing as it is in the prime location of white cross bay Also the cleaning standard had slipped and was extremely dusty and many cobwebs. We did have an issue with the heating but due to Christmas we thought it would be best to contact the owner directly, we managed to find the details on line, with a lot of emailing back and forth the problem was rectified on the 2nd day, it was quite frustrating not having heating on christmas day till later in the evening as the bathrooms and bedrooms were extremely cold. The big positive of our stay was the hot tub and the amazing views

  • "This is our 4th stay at Stickle Ghyll."

Every year it has gone downhill. Its still up for sale so we believe the owners are just trying to move it on without spending anymore money on it. The bedroom window was broken, you could just pull it open from outside, the sofa was so uncomfortable I sat on the floor! The heating was playing up, the hot tub wasn’t working properly. The tv in the bedroom was smashed! All these points had been raised by the previous occupants as the maintenance man who came to look at the window explained so these issues should of been rectified. Its been nearly 3 weeks now since we left. I have asked for some compensation for our stay and the owners apparently still haven’t returned any of Sykes emails! Its not good enough. When we first stayed in this lodge 5 years ago we loved it. We will not return here. Its such a shame as its in one of the best positions by Lake Windermere and with some TLC it could be amazing. I didn’t want to post this review until I had heard back from the owners but as 3 weeks has nearly passed I felt the need to let anybody know who was considering booking this lodge to give it a wide berth until all the issues had been resolved and compensation has been paid back to anyone who has requested it. No one should be paying full price for this lodge currently.

  • "Overall we had a nice stay and were glad to be away."

Perfectly positioned with the most amazing views. Comfy bed, lodge nice and spacious for our party of 4. Few points which may be worth noting and would stop me from booking this again; - Bedroom 1 left window does not lock or close. Property not secure when you leave as if there is any wind, the window blows open. I had to tie using a hair bobble because it made the back of the lodge freezing in the night which still left a gap but at least it didnt blow all the way open like the first night. Would hate to be there as the temperature drops. - Shower rail within ensuite shower enclosure loose. - No iron (doesn't make sense when there is a ironing board) - No hair dryer - not essential but this is the first place we have stayed where one hasn't been provided. - Wifi non existent. Does not seem to reach lakeside from the main building. Not even enough strength for whatsapp never mind trying to stream a movie (TV channels are really limited). - Clean on arrival but glass within the property (fire, wine cooler, TV) all with hand marks - Patio chair damaged - Sofa in the lounge torn and stained - Carpet stained Still a nice place, just needs a little TLC

After it had finished, the staff then spent the next hour clearing up while blaring music loudly from their car. It was extremely disrespectful under normal circumstances but very deliberately so since we’d informed them we had two young children in the lodge.

Good position within the park. We had a lovely peaceful, relaxing break. Nice hot tub - was pleased that it was checked daily by someone. The lodge is modern and beds were comfortable. Great that it had a dishwasher and large fridge freezer and washing machine too! Would book this lodge again. There were a couple of things that hadn't been cleaned properly which we were slightly disappointed with considering we are in Covid times. Glass fire place had finger marks all over it and the wine cooler too but we didn't need to use either during the stay so didn't affect us. Everything else looked clean and tidy.

The site was lovely (restaurant/bar/indoor pool/kids play parks) and the location of the lodge on the site was perfect - literally right on the shore of the lake. The lodge has 2 bedrooms, kitchen area, 2 bathrooms, living room area with lovely double doors opening on to the deck area. The deck area is huge with a gated area in which the hot tub is kept. The lodge was cleaned to a high standard except for 2 areas; 1) the carpets were a bit grubby 2) the hot tub had a bit of debris (leaves and insects) floating on it when we took the cover off on the 1st night (nothing our fishing net couldn't sort out) Our 2 kids loved the hot tub and it could be heated to 39C which was fab for a late night dip.
