  • "This house does not deserve the bad reviews it has had."

It is a typical old Lakeland house - if you want modern this is not for you if you want a comfy well located warm original house this is for you The house was warm and well facilitated We stayed for Christmas and made dinner for 5 and it had everything apart from a carving knife Kitchen equipment works well. Outhouse great for shoes and coats 2 parking options was perfect and location great for a winter visit walking straight into town in a few seconds For us the lounge was small we have family who like to visit when we are in Windermere and it was tight but all other rooms a good size. Bathrooms were fine the new shower is perfect Bedrooms good but it is noisy in mornings as so close to town but you soon get used to it Quick positive fix in rooms would be black out curtains re street lights in winter and guessing sun in summer Also the cleaners need to do better! It was face value clean but sticky kitchen floor on arrival, dusty TV stand, bedside lights when moved were sticky on surface and carpets need a better hoover were some of the details that need addressing All in all we liked this house and it did us nicely for Christmas. Would book directly next time Sykes cottages were no use at all - I was worried reading the previous reviews as staying at Christmas with an 8 year old and 2 over 70’s but they did nothing to put my mind at rest I fail to see any benefit of booking through them and would not use them again

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to read your problems with the cleanliness. As we did not have any contact about this then we were unable to rectify it for you. I have had a look at the communications with you and can see various notes but not one regarding your child and parents, so I apologise if that was missed. We are glad that you all had a lovely Christmas at the property. Lakelovers Owner Team Property Owner

  • "Great location."

The property did not feel very ‘homely’ because the living room not having a cozy factor. The kitchen was well fitted out and we had everything we needed. There was a dog smell in the house but that’s fair enough due it being pet friendly. We never had a chance to park at the front of the property so the parking space at the back was essential for us.

  • "This property is not worth the rate it has been set at."

Until the property owner sets about a maintenance plan, it really shouldn't be let out. From worn and slippery carpets on the stairs, to the strange electrical setup for the upstairs en-suite extractor fan, the non working shaver light, the broken toilet seat and the dangerous sharp towel rail valve sticking out by the doorway in the "en-suite" shower room. Add in the useless shower head in the "family" bathroom and the seized up toilet seat/lid. Then we get to cleanliness, very old cobwebs everywhere, black greasy marks on the carpets and disgusting dust/dirt combination under the sofa cushions that I had to lift after something out of my pocket dropped in the gap. The rear yard/parking area gates are very difficult to open and close and the very dead, dry plants in the yard limit how far you can reverse your car in, if you do not want to scratch it. The kitchen is adequately equipped and although the beds were a bit lumpy, they sufficed. A lot of the window latching mechanisms are worn/hanging off and as described by a previous occupant, there's a random hole/dent in the wall, halfway up one stair case. The location is ok, although the bin lorries arrived twice in the week at 5am to service the backs of the shops and businesses adjacent to the back road behind the property and during the longer days of summer, don't expect a lie in anyway, the curtains do not stop any light getting in. The property owner seriously need to up their game to get the full potential of the property. All in all the property is a fail compared to previous Sykes properties I have stayed in and one of those was considerably older than this one. To sum up, it's a NO from me!

  • "The house isn’t very cosy."

The furniture is very outdated and uncomfortable, the outdoor furniture is very old and tatty, it needed cleaning before we could use it. The mattresses are lumpy and the curtains in all bedrooms are very thin and didn’t keep any light out so no chance of a lay in on a morning. The shower in the main bathroom needs a new shower head, the water just dribbles out, we couldn’t use it. The kitchen was nice and well equipped. The location is ok, the centre of Windermere is about a 30minute walk away.

  • "The Burrow is a well situated and comfy property but it could do with a spruce up."

A lot of the walls need a lick of paint and there was a hole in the wall up one of the stairs. There were also a lot of long dog hairs on the furniture in the living room. The room layouts are a bit strange and a little inconvenient but didn't ruin our stay. The main bathroom is on the same floor as the living room while the kitchen is all the way down on the bottom basement floor. The bed was very comfy though. Our main issue was the central heating which didn't always come on so needed resetting about 3-4 times during our week stay. I would recommend it needs a service on the timer function. Overall though The Burrow was a good base with free parking which was a big bonus.

We were surprised at the level of cleaning though with very dirty glass on the back door and dog poo and broken glass in the back garden area. Most annoying was the lack of facilities- no pepper, no teabags, no dishwasher tablets, no bin bags. We had a buy a lot that we weren't expecting to and had no use for beyond the holiday.

  • "We had a great week stay at The Burrow with our 2 Border Terriers."

When we walked in the cottage smelt lovely and fresh and clean. I agree with other reviews that it is a bit dated, and the kitchen needs a refurb( have read in the owners comments they are refurbishing it at end of season) . But it was worth the money we paid, and when you see what others are charging it was good value for money. We found the beds fine, no issues. Tub chairs in lounge very uncomfortable though . So glad of the parking at the back, my hubby had no issues parking our Audi A3 . Our daughter and son-in -law came for 2 nights as they were at a wedding locally and for them trying to find a parking space would of been a bit awkward even with parking permit , they managed to park outside the cottage and they left the car there and used ours. Cottage in great location for local shops , restaurants and pubs, 25 min walk down to the lake at Bowness . Great base for visiting other areas of the lake district. Other people have mentioned it being noisy. We never found it noisy but maybe in the summer it is noisier than when we was there. Local park at bottom of the road which is great if you are taking your pooches. We will definitely or hope to return in the future.

It has not very narrow staircase. We had children and old people. It might not be appropriate for somebody who has bigger bodies. Living Room is small but has TV and seating area. Basement has Kitchen, Dinning room and conservatory. It has all facilities. It has a Washing Machine and Dishwasher. We had to bring Washing Liquid for Washing Machine, Tissue Paper, Tea and Sugar. It is on a good road and close to restaurants and walkable from train station. It has 2 gates front and back. It has parking at the back. Customer Service is good except when we reached and called woman was upset. We had a good stay overall!

The house is a bit dated but it's cosy enough and for the money i think it's a great place to stay, very handy for shops, tourist excursions and walking. Also had my dog with me which was no trouble at all. Some people had said it was noisy...not at all and i think the people that had mentioned that stayed in half term so lots more people milling about i guess! I would recommend and i would stay there again.

PARKING PERMIT IS SUPPLIED FOR FRONT OF HOUSE AS WELL AS PARKING IN REAR. WE FOUND PARKING IN REAR GREAT FOR FIRST CAR BUT THERE SEEMS TO BE MORE CAR PERMIT HOLDERS IN AND AROUND STREET THAN THERE ARE PLACES! THEREFORE WE HAD A LOT OF DIFFICULTY FINDING SPACE FOR SECOND CAR EVERY TIME WE HAD TO USE IT. OTHERWISE ITS A CLEAN COMFORTBLE HOUSE IDEAL BASE FOR EXPLORING SOUTH LAKES BUT IT IS QUITE NOISY IN CENTRE OF WINDERMERE.

  • "The Burrows is a comfortable cottage very conveniently located near to all the shops and restaurants."

There was parking at the rear of the property accessed via a very tight lane, which was tricky to park with a big car. We also had a parking permit provided but could never get a space on the road at the front of the property. The lounge was comfortable but the lamp wasn’t working so the lighting was quite poor. Both the bathroom and en-suite had mould growing in the corners. The kitchen was well equipped but dark and dingy in the basement and is quite dated, it could do with a bit of a refurbishment a change in the lighting would make it less dingy. Also the shelves in the corner unit were sticky with grease!! Urgh! The dining room tiled floor was very dirty and sticky too and left our feet and socks dirty. My main reason for rating my stay a 3 star was that the double bed in the front 1st floor bedroom was awful it creaked every time either myself or my husband moved and the mattress really needs replacing as do the very thin old pillows! Needless to say our sleep was not good during our stay. There was no ironing board and also every property we have ever rented has always provided a little welcome pack, milk, juice, bread etc. I have always found this a nice touch. There was nothing except a box with a few tea bags and coffee sachets. Whilst there is no obligation or expectation of this, it is the little touches that make your stay more welcoming and memorable.

Many thanks for you feedback. We are pleased to hear that you found the cottage comfortable and convenient! The parking can be a little tight, but it is best to reverse your vehicle in, the owner has advised that is can fit up to a Jaguar F-Pace quite snugly. We are also please to say that the property is going to have a new kichen fitted towards the end of the season. The beds and pillows will be investigated. We are glad you enjoyed the small welcome pack. Property Owner

  • "I don't usually like to leave negative reviews, ,but unfortunately I must on this occasion."

Let's start with the positives. The location is fantastic and everything you need is on your doorstep. As we are an outdoorsy type of family this was a great base. But be aware on a night it is very loud due to being near the centre. Now the negatives. Both the bathrooms had black mold around the bath and shower. The bath sounded like it was going to collapse every time we stood in it to shower. The ground floor kitchen was a bit dark and dingy and the kitchen could definitely do with an overhaul. The front lounge was comfy enough, but both my partner and I suffered with what can only be described as bites from sitting on the sofa. The beds were comfy if not a little noisy. There was a hole in the wall and a blood streak on the 1st floor door architrave. All in all a great holiday but the accommodation was definitely not up to the usual Sykes standard as I have been using them for almost 10 years. I would not recommend this property sorry

  • "We enjoyed our stay at the Burrow."

Even though the Covid restrictions weren't lifted as we had expected during our stay. It is situated right in the centre of Windermere near all the shops and restaurants. We needed to book some things ahead. We don't have a car but there was a good bus service to get around the area just about 50 yards away. My wife and I used our free passes, our daughter just walked every where, which she enjoys. The cottage had most things we needed for our week. It was over 3 floors though and people with poor mobility might not like. When we were in the cottage we spent most of the time sat in the back in the garden furniture. It was a nice sun trap even though it had an uninspiring view.
