  • "Really enjoyed staying in this well appointed property."

The only thing we found difficult was actually finding the property from the directions given. These need rewriting. It would also be useful to have a guide for the oven and microwave.

  • "Absolutely delightful."

Well appointed and well furnished. Beds really comfortable. It is next to a caravan park but if you have kids there was plenty to do for them. However the Wigwam remsained peaceful and quiet and being next to a caravan site was certain no bother. It's a 2 minute walk to the beach and the cottage has a lovely sea view. Nice pub about a 10 minute walk away. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet of this beautiful cottage.

  • "Great location, lots to do in the area."

The property is nicely presented and spotlessly clean. Being able to see the sea from the lounge and the bedroom was a bonus. Shop on site was reasonable and provided everything we needed until we could visit Tescos in Castle Douglas. There were already things like toilet paper, washing up liquid and tea towels at the property. The bathroom is only small and the sink is tiny but worked fine for us, a hook on the door would’ve been useful to hang up clothing when showering. Iron and ironing board available but no hairdryer so take your own. Would definitely recommend, thank you for a most comfortable stay.

  • "My family used to have caravans in Southerness for 20+ years in the Lighthouse Leisure site so spent my childhood there every weekend and holidays, lots of happy memories, but when my dad became terminal gave van up so hadn't been back for 20 years."

I was shocked at how close the vans are in all the sites now, far too close. After being housebound for 3 years after breaking my back and covid lockdown living alone I really needed to get back out into the world but my confidence took a humdinger of a battering so I thought go back to Southerness but I wanted a peace and quiet too so not in a caravan in a busy noisy site so thought a private cottage and came across Sykes where I chose Wigwam because I knew the family had good taste because they've got 2 of the same pictures I have lol The Sykes internet booking experience I admit I had trouble with trying to pay for it because the part that sends you to your bank site to acknowledge you're paying they send you a code to type in then continue on to finalise but instead kept taking me back to start of booking process and after 6 times I gave up but unfortunately staff aren't allowed to take over the phone payments so had to wait until I was on another device for it to go through. The Wigwam itself is an amazing place with beautiful decor throughout every bit reminding you that you are on holiday by the sea. The views overlooking the beach from the 'a little sand between your toes takes away your woes' bedroom (sure as heck does btw) and the single bedroom and the whole of the living room windows look out onto the beach and the 2nd double bedroom even although overlooking the back of the site complex it was still quiet. Wigwam has all mod cons kitchen, dining area and living area, bedrooms and bathroom which admittedly I was a bit worried about with my mobility issues walk with crutches, have a wetroom and seat at home, but I still managed in and out of bath holding on to sink and towel rails. Overall an exceptional home, holiday which brought back plenty of happy memories and aye a wee bit teary bits too from start on the bus going turning into the Southerness road knowing all the times we went down 'the tickly hill' (kind of big dipper tickly tummy feeling like you get on the big dipper when dad put foot down on that bit for 20 years lol) but first time dad not there. I'll definitely be back.

  • "We had great difficulties in finding the Wigwam."

The house name just behind glass in window in the dark ‼️went past three times. Disappointed with neighbours as they were VERY untidy and lighting fires outside Could hardly enjoy the sea air. No stirring spoons Or dishcloth for wiping around. Glad I took mine wanted to keep it clean. Toilet very inhibiting nowhere to put left foot as cupboard in way‼️ A good location if you enjoy watching the procession of dog walkers going to the beach. People very friendly and shop ok. Not going again.

  • "Had a lovely time at the cottage pretty much everything you need ."

.if I was to be picky could do with a bigger freezer compartment as the ice box size if very limiting ..situated 2 min walk to beach and 1 min walk to entertainment centre its ideal would definitely return

  • "Wow! What can I say?"

I don't have enough words to express how much praise this property deserves. I booked this holiday as a last minute treat for my husband and myself, my daughter and our two grandchildren aged 7 and 11. I did not know the area nor had I read any reviews before booking. The Wigwam was beyond any expectations. Absolutely immaculate inside with everything you could possibly want, very quiet and peaceful yet only a few yards from the beach. There is also a large enclosed garden which allowed us to eat outside without being overlooked. Lots of places to visit to suit all ages and all within a short drive. This is the best place I have stayed for many a year and would return in a heartbeat.

  • "We didn’t realize the cottage was on the Parkdean Holiday park, which wasn’t a problem, it was quiet enough but the bars & restaurants that service the park area were not to our taste & we travelled along the coast to find other places to eat."

The cottage was clean & well equipped & had a nice big garden. Location to beach was great only 2 minute walk.

  • "We had a fabulous stay at The Wigwam."

The place was spotless and very welcoming. We loved the layout and had everything we needed. It's location to the beach was great for daily walks to catch crabs in the rock pools or dip our toes in the water. The kids loved their stay too! Would certainly recommend and we hope to be back sometime in the future.

About the location

SOUTHERNESS

Castle Douglas 19 miles; Dalbeattie 13 miles; Dumfries 16 miles.

Southerness is a small coastal village established in the late 18th century, which looks out over the Solway Firth, and forms part of the Colvend coast, one of the finest stretches of coastline on the 'Scottish Riviera'. Home to three pubs, two village stores, a leisure centre with a pool at Parkdean and two miles of sandy beaches with sand dunes, rock pools and Gulf Stream warmed waters, and one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland, built in 1748, it has everything you will need for a relaxing holiday. The nearby Criffel Hill rises to 569m, offers wonderful views of the farmland and the sands of the Nith Estuary below, and provides great walking opportunities. The Southerness Championship Golf Course adjoins the village and offers panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District to the south and the Galloway Hills to the west. A great location, with something to keep everybody occupied.
