  • "A beautiful, cozy, private cottage in a stunning location."

The cottage is characterful and thoughtfully furnished with lovely works of art that exhibit a degree of trust from the owner. We found Fawber Cottage to be very warm and well equipped. It was clean and well organised. The garden and property in general were well kept/ maintained and one really couldn’t ask for more! To boot, the pub is only a short stroll down the track.

  • "Tried phoning the owner 3 times during my stay."

The first time, she advised she was on the phone to someone from China and that I'd have to phone her back (the correct response would surely have been to say that she would phone ME back). On the 2nd and 3rd attempts to phone her, it went onto her answering service - I left a message for her to phone me but she never did. After we had arrived back home, a full 24 hours later, I received a text message from her asking if she could help! The heating is by means of quite dated storage heaters. The heating came on at preset times and it was unclear as to how the guest controlled the heating times. Although it was only September when we stayed, it got chilly on one or two evenings and we had to sit with duvets over us one evening. Guests may wish to bring their own small fan heater with them if staying over the colder months. The shower was over the bath type. The shower screen was of a folding type which did not sit flush on the edge of the bath leading to worry that water would go over the side onto the floor. We were worried about forcing it in case we broke it. A bath tap came away in my hand whilst I was using it but, luckily, I was able to re-attach it. The crockery was plentiful but guests may want to consider bringing the following themselves: a sharp bread knife, a sharp pair of scissors, some large bowls and some STANDARD sized mugs. The table in the living room had a noticeable layer of dust on it suggesting that cleaning mightn't be a priority. Whilst the DVD player worked, the remote control for it did not, making it hard to control viewing, suggesting a lack of attention to detail. The volume on the TV, whilst watching a DVD, was also very low and unable to be increased, resulting in the TV being very hard to hear. Guests may wish to bring their own DVD player or portable DVD player. If just watching the TV alone, the volume is fine. Guests should note that there is no DAB radio reception OR mobile signal which did not present too much of a problem for us, but may for others. There was no welcoming pressies, like a bottle of wine or biscuits, something we are used to receiving at other cottages, which was a bit disappointing. However, there was a carton of long life milk left for us in the fridge. The cottage is, otherwise, in a delightful location with a lovely garden and views. Pen-y-ghent could be seen from the garden. It was generally quiet during our stay. The bedding was crisp and clean and the beds were comfortable. The price we paid for our week was reasonable but the price varies considerably, depending on the week chosen, and so guests should choose their week carefully. Overall, we'd score the cottage as 7 out of 10, but it could quite easily have been a 9 or 10 with a bit more attention to detail / response from the owner when contacted.

The cottage had everything we needed and was really comfortable and homely. The fire in the evenings was a bonus and everything we needed to light it was provided. The kitchen and dining area was lovely and made making evening meals easy and pleasurable. The parking space was big enough for our transporter van and the rooms in the cottage itself were surprisingly spacious. The old fashioned decor fit the vibe of our holiday perfectly - all about the simple pleasures in life of hiking and coming back to a cottage with a lovely fire and well worn in comfy chairs!

  • "A lovely property with all amenities that are needed."

Has a lovely kitchen and very homely downstairs. Double room was nice, I shared one of the other rooms with my daughter and sadly had a problem with woodlice coming from the vent in the ceiling which was unfortunately right above my pillow were they were dropping. It is situated in a great spot for walkers and we did plenty of them ourselves. Overall we had a really good holiday and enjoyed ourselves. The cottage was nice but I feel it needs a little maintenance and upgrading in areas for the price expected to pay.

Thank you so much for your comments and I am thrilled that you liked the kitchen and you found downstairs homely. So sorry regarding the issue you had which although the property is in a rural setting, is highly unusual. Of course I will give it immediate attention and block the relevant air vent so this can never happen again. I'm sorry that I wasn't given the opportunity to help you at the time. Property Owner

Very quiet. Beautiful views from garden to Pen-y-Ghent. Spacious. All bed linen clean and freshly laundered. A real escape from urban life. One of the nicest cottages we have ever stayed in. Be careful with shower as water leaks onto floor (being addressed as we were leaving). Park in recess to left hand side of cottage. Do not attempt to park outside front door as there is a drop in levels which could damage car wheel/cill. Check out is 9am sharp, earlier than most cottages.

Thank you for your feedback and I'm glad you had a lovely time. I can confirm that the shower area was addressed as soon as possible as I do like to stay on top of maintenance standards. I am pleased to report that there is now a new shower screen in place. Property Owner

Fantastic cottage in a perfect location. So many great walks right from the front door. The house was warm and cosy and spotlessly clean. Lashings of hot water for baths and showers after a long day out walking. There's a large kitchen-diner with a big fridge-freezer. We had a grocery delivery mid week so didn't need to go shopping. The bookshelves are very well stocked with good books. The large, well kept garden has culinary herbs growing in pots and chairs so you catch the evening sun after a hard day's walking. Logs and coal are provided which is a nice touch The Crown, the pub down the road, is the most unfriendly and unwelcoming in the UK. We went every evening just for the entertainment. Read the reviews on Trip Advisor. They're a hoot! We had a fantastic holiday at Fawber

Enjoyed the coziness inside the cottage and the garden. When we come back to the Yorkshire Dales we will certainly look if Faber Cottage is free to book and stay again. Everything we need was in the house available, we only bought a new dishbrush to replace the greasy old one. Suggestion would be to do a big overall cleaning every quarter or Monthly. The surfaces where a bit dusty and sticky. The bench outside was our favorite place in the morning sun, but is at the ending of it’s live and will soon collapse. I would also replace the plastic furniture for a new less basic gardenset, for more comfort and joy. But overall we had a lovely time at Faber and would definitely recommend it.

Both the cottage and the garden are beautiful and in a lovely spot. Views of the hills and the Pen-y-Ghent are stunning. The interior is, as other visitors have described it: unspoiled and authentic. The wood stove is cosy and welcome when it gets chilly outside. There is a lot to do and visit in the area. Nearby Settle is a very nice little town for shopping. I will join the chorus of other visitors in saying that 9:00 for departure on the last day is too early, especially since at 9:00 o'clock no one showed up or seemed in a hurry to do the cleaning. In all other respects a truly wonderful experience! We hope to come again!

We have already booked again and would definitely recommend it. Such a peaceful and relaxing spot. However the 6 p.m. check in time, which has changed since we last visited, seems a little mean giving the earlier than normal check out at 9 a.m., and is the latest check-in time we have ever had anywhere. Also it was a cold and blustery evening when we arrived and the storage heaters were nearly all turned off at the wall so we were unable to have heat from them that night. And whilst we had logs and coal and kindling (generously supplied) we did not have firelighters or newspaper or any way to light the fire so spent a very chilly first night! However these are minor niggles and when we next visit we will come prepared. Overall this is a lovely Cottage and we loved our time here and can't wait to return in September

Never stayed anywhere with rules like that. No basics in the kitchen which you would normally find in self-catering accommodation - oil, salt, pepper, tea, coffee. Nothing! It's set in a lovely hamlet with beautiful surroundings and views of Pen-y-ghent from the back garden. It's a really nice place to sit out and stargaze after dark. The nearest pub is about 10 minutes walk down the lane and it is also warm and inviting with good food and beer. We completed the Yorkshire 3 peaks walk and it was great to have a quick soak in the bath and relax in front of the fire afterwards. As others have stated, the furnishings aren't top spec, but they are in keeping with the price to rent the cottage and we had everything we needed to prepare meals and be relaxed and comfortable. The living room is very homely and well appointed with a good selection of books. We had not expected WiFi and it was a pleasant surprise that this has now been provided. The kitchen and dining room are well equipped and catering for 6 people is very easy. We particularly appreciated the cooker which was of a high standard. The Garden is a real bonus which enhanced our holiday. A Lovely place to sit and it’s a very easy walk down to the village. Settle Hawes Dent and Kirkby Lonsdale make a nice ride out and for the adventurous plenty of caves to visit. The cottage is fascinating as so many original features and lovely and warm with electric heaters plus a coal stove and plenty of coal provided .Beds comfortable. It's a basic cottage though and if mine I'd keep the place better maintained - there are plenty of cobwebs and occupants ( more than you would expect in the country including in the wardrobes), the walls could do with a lick of paint and the gardens grass is overgrown and the sofa is so uncomfortable as to make it unusable by one of our party. They have kindly installed WiFi and it is very good.
