  • "Great little property that was spotlessly clean and well maintained, it had everything we required and the Berkeley Arms being just a couple of doors down which serviced lovely food was ideal, we also visited the Windmill up the hill behind the property for breakfast which was lovely Rutland water less than 20 mins drive for a nice walk with the dog and close to Oakham to allow us to pop in and grab some supplies from Tesco's, all in all a great stay!"

I am not able to rate the property. In all aspects the property deserves a rating of four stars. The property is a jewel in a lovely, quiet and very friendly neighbourhood. We have stayed there twice and intend to book again for next year - hopefully for a longer stay. I cannot give Sykes a recommendation better than 7, because I, as a customer living in Germany, feel that I am disadvantaged compared to customers in the UK. Kind regards, Keith Overton

We have already booked to come back next year. The accommodation was spotless and met all of our requirements. A question I had was met with a prompt and helpful response from the owner. Parking spaces right outside the front of the property are a bonus as is the pub next door where a warm welcome was received on the 3 occasions we used it. Our dogs enjoyed the large park justa 5 minute walk down the road, and the locals we bumped into were very friendly. On our last day we enjoyed breakfast at the Windmill cafe. Used the hot tub each day. Lovely to relax in. Would recommend this property.

The property was clean and welcoming. The owners had thought of everything to ensure our stay with our sons (adult and teenager) and our dog was both enjoyable and comfortable, including adequate WiFi (very important to a teenager!). We were even left some milk, tea, coffee, a bottle of sparkling wine, and doggy treats (as well as human biscuits) to start off our holiday. To top it off, the pub near the property was excellent (friendly staff and locals) as well absolutely amazing food. Would highly recommend this holiday let.

So very clean and comfortable and beautifully decorated for Christmas. It made our winter break extra special. Wymondham is a lovely characterful village - lovely pub just a few years from us. We visited Oakham, Uppingham, Rutland Water and saw a wonderful display of 200 Christmas trees in St Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray. Rutland Garden Village has a very good eatery, The Cakery, and luckily for us Hambleton Bakery has opened a smashing coffee shop Just eaten some of the delicious goodies we bought there. Also bought all our Christmas meat in Glenn Lewin Butchers, Sileby. The Pinfold has so many lovely places to visit nearby. You won't be disappointed - it was a 'quality' holiday. Also went to Rutland waters, and visites a pub called the Admiral Hornblower for lunch in Oakham nearby - both lovely. Lots of dog friendly places to go. Recommend walking up to the windmill, which is just a 10 min walk. Nice little coffee shop. Not much in the immediate village to do, but plenty a quick drive away. Cottage has everything we needed, although a bit more cutlery/glasses would have been good as we had to keep washing them up! Hot tub is lovely, and a nice treat. Check in and out was seamless. Off-road parking right outside the front gate was a bonus. The cottage is an ideal base for touring the lovely countryside. The whole area seems to be very dog friendly - we ate out each day, mostly evening meals, and were able to take our dog with us. The millwind is a 5 minute walk up the hill and has a lovely little cafe. The potting shed on the way to Oakham was our star find - super friendly and the food was amazing. We visited several pubs for food; the Berkley (next door but one - handy after a few shandies!) and the Admiral Hornblower to name but a few. Melton Mowbray and Oakham have plenty of supermakets and takeaways only a short drive away. We found a dog friendly wood in Loughborough and spent a day at Rutland Water Reservoir - head to Sykes car park for the off lead dog area. Gates garden centre near Oakham is very good but doesn't allow dogs. Oakham itself is worth a visit - quaint shops, a small museum to look around and an enclosed grass area to exercise the dog. All in all, a lovely break away which we'll definately repeat.
