About the location
Horncastle 4.7 miles; Lincoln 20.4 miles
This quiet village is located in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, just north of Horncastle. Its Grade II listed Anglican parish church is dedicated to St. Margaret, originating in the 14th century, rebuilt in 1764 and again in 1895. The village Coach and Horses pub is a former coaching inn on the old Louth to Lincoln route and now serves a range of bar meals and homemade dishes, as well as a good selection of real ales. It has been listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide since 1998 and has won many other awards in its time. Nearby, in the small village of Baumber is The Walled Garden, a nineteenth-century, innovative and exciting garden full of hidden surprises. It once belonged to the former Stourton Hall and is a rare example of a double walled garden covering just under 4 acres. In 2016, the family who currently own the land, decided to open the gates to the public on Friday afternoons. It was so popular, that now the former potting shed has been made into a lovely tea room. Horncastle is a lively market town close by, known as the Gateway to the Wolds. Boasting antique shops, pubs, tea rooms, cafes and restaurants, this wonderful town lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The seaside is just 20 miles away with many sandy beaches to enjoy and the cobbled streets of Lincoln pave the way to discover its medieval cathedral, castle, museum and many shopping opportunities. A delightful location to choose for your next UK holiday.
