  • "We had a really lovely stay at The Old Smithy."

Very homely and comfortable, perfect whilst we were having building works in our own home. Well behaved dog owners made to feel comfortable with our pooches having their own bed, treats and blankets, really appreciative. Everything you could need when you return from wonderful country walks and beach walks m thank you

  • "A very well equipped property for people."

It was also lovely for my two dogs. It had a good enclosed garden with lawn. Treats and toys and even a poo bin was provided. There were walks along the Viking Way (among others) from the front door and The Blue Bell Inn which is very welcoming to humans and dogs only 100 paces from the front door.

  • "This is such a lovely place to stay, either with or without dogs."

For those travelling without dogs, the sofas are leather, the floors are solid and dogs are not allowed upstairs. You are not going to find the cottage has a doggy smell and all of the facilities you would hope for are in place. Nicely stocked kitchen with a decent variety of tableware, utensils, pots, pans etc. We cooked more nights than we went out and weren’t at all limited by being away from home. The cottage really does have the perfect set up for bringing dogs, no need to bring bowls, towels or blankets. The garden is very secure, it’s not obvious in the photos but the large gaps on fences have all been covered with chicken wire. The boot room has a lovely dog bed but there’s plenty of space to put up a crate if that’s what your dog is used to. The hosts make it very clear that they were available if we needed anything. But they weren’t overbearing, we could easily have gone the week without speaking to them at all if that was our preference. Highly recommended.

It has been renovated in such an impressive way and to a very high standard . The charm and detail of the decoration is so lovely and exploring the property with all the additions to give it character was really interesting . The owners have thought of everything for visitors and are extremely thoughtful for dog owners . They are very keen for you to enjoy your stay and are extremely helpful . The Blue Bell pub is literally across the road and serves very good food and Horncastle is a 10 min drive so it is also well positioned. We would highly recommend this lovely holiday home . • "A lovely, well equipped cottage in a prime village location set back from the road itself."

As there is no shop in this village it was good to be greeted with milk in the fridge, eggs and a Lincolnshire plum loaf on the counter top and some de-icer for rhe outside paving in case we had a severe frost whilst there. It's often these little touches that make a holiday really special.

It was as beautifully presented as we recalled from our last stay and Gordon the owner was discreet yet very accommodating. This time we travelled out to the foodie market town of Louth and enjoyed the bustling market on the saturday morning and another trip took us to the unspoiled beach at Mogg's Eye where we were able to walk our dog, Bob. We had a brilliant rest and will return again when we are next travelling to the stunning Lincolnshire Wolds. Thanks again, Clare and Gordon you deserve the business!

The owners have not only ensured that the accommodation is exceptional, but also provided lots of little things, such as fresh eggs, plum loaf and homemade dog treats to make our stay comfortable. The Old Smithy was ultra stylish, very comfortable and perfectly located for exploring the local area. The village of Belchford where the property is located is quiet with lots of well signposted walks which we went on with our dog, Bob. The Bluebell Inn opposite was welcoming and the food was lovely. We travelled out to Louth which was a lovely 'foodie' market town, Mablethorpe and Skegness with outstanding beaches and Horncastle which had a decent sized Tesco for topping up our provisions. We couldn't fault anything and will definitely be returning for another visit when we are in the Lincolnshire area again. Well done Clare and Gordon!

The attention to detail throughout the property is outstanding, and we particularly appreciated having a kitchen with absolutely everything needed to cook 'proper' meals. The Old Smithy is really welcoming to dogs, with lots of helpful extras and an enclosed rear garden. Belchford is a great location for exploring the Lincolnshire Wolds, and there are excellent walks starting from the village and including stretches of the Viking Way. There is a really useful selection of maps and guides in the property, and all the walks we tried were very well signposted. It was a pleasure to return to a warm and cosy cottage after a bracing walk, and we made full use of the surround sound hi-fi! We will certainly return to the Old Smithy for another walking holiday next year.

It is absolutely stunning. It has been finished to a very high standard. It is often difficult to find such a beautiful place that accepts pets and the dog bed is a really lovely touch. It is really well equipped and has everything you need. The beds were so comfy and we enjoyed making use of the wood burning stove on cold nights. We had really good communication from Clare and Gordon prior to our holiday, giving us all the information we needed. It was good to know they were close by should we need them, but they were not intrusive. We would definitely recommend the Old Smithy for anyone wanting a relaxing holiday and would love to return in warmer months to enjoy the lovely garden.

The property boasts a unique design, with most of its original features retained for a fabulous aesthetic, providing a wonderful base for a small family.

Park up on the shared driveway and make your way inside the abode through the double doors; be amazed by the spiral staircase, which takes centre stage in the open-plan living space.

The beautifully laid-out space is gently warmed by underfloor heating, with stunning tiled flooring running through the ground-floor, adding an element of sophistication.

Stepping indoors, head to the luxurious bathroom complete with handmade bathroom fittings, where you can indulge in a spot of luxury with a bubble bath in the stylish roll-top bath, or stand under the waterfall shower for a relaxing rinse.

Tuck the younger ones up in the twin room, where the exposed brick wall fills this room with character, offering an idyllic and calming setting for children to rest their heads.

Take advantage of the rural location and lace up your walking boots and embark on an adventure to Hubbard's Hills for a delightful stroll and a picnic, or plan a day out at Bolingbroke Castle to view the engrossing remains, dating back to the 13th century.

Travel further afield to the town of Horncastle where you'll find The Walled Garden Baumber alongside a marvellous selection of antique stores and rustic pubs, perfect for a refreshing tipple after a spot of window shopping.
