  • "Beautiful cottage done to a very high standard, very comfortable and ideally placed for the pub across the road!"

Some lovely features inside in keeping with the age of the building. I would recommend the "old smithy".

  • "Absolutely amazing stay and property!"

We had the best stay, nothing at all could be faulted. The accommodation was incredible with everything you need for a break including milk and even a local homemade tea loaf!! The house has been restored to the most fantastic standard and is very tastefully decorated. The beds and bed linen are so comfy, as well as smelling so lovely. The whole property was super clean and a highchair was promptly provided when asked. Fab stay, will definitely be back! Thank you to Gordon and Claire :) x

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at the Old Smithy."

The attention to detail throughout the property is outstanding, and we particularly appreciated having a kitchen with absolutely everything needed to cook 'proper' meals. The Old Smithy is really welcoming to dogs, with lots of helpful extras and an enclosed rear garden. Belchford is a great location for exploring the Lincolnshire Wolds, and there are excellent walks starting from the village and including stretches of the Viking Way. There is a really useful selection of maps and guides in the property, and all the walks we tried were very well signposted. It was a pleasure to return to a warm and cosy cottage after a bracing walk, and we made full use of the surround sound hi-fi! We will certainly return to the Old Smithy for another walking holiday next year.

  • "The Old Smithy is a delightful place to stay."

It is comfortable, cosy and well-equipped. The property is high end with amazing attention to detail and a real sense of connection with the building's history, while bringing things fully up-to-date. We very much appreciated how welcoming the property owners were to dogs, providing a special bed, towels, blankets and even home-made dog treats. The property is well-placed for exploring Lincolnshire, including the Wolds and coast. The Old Smithy was a lovely place to relax and unwind.

  • "We all had a lovely stay at the Old Smithy."

It is absolutely stunning. It has been finished to a very high standard. It is often difficult to find such a beautiful place that accepts pets and the dog bed is a really lovely touch. It is really well equipped and has everything you need. The beds were so comfy and we enjoyed making use of the wood burning stove on cold nights. We had really good communication from Clare and Gordon prior to our holiday, giving us all the information we needed. It was good to know they were close by should we need them, but they were not intrusive. We would definitely recommend the Old Smithy for anyone wanting a relaxing holiday and would love to return in warmer months to enjoy the lovely garden.

Nested in the rural village of Belchford, situated across the road from a traditional pub, is the impressive cottage, The Old Smithy.

The property boasts a unique design, with most of its original features retained for a fabulous aesthetic, providing a wonderful base for a small family.

Park up on the shared driveway and make your way inside the abode through the double doors; be amazed by the spiral staircase, which takes centre stage in the open-plan living space.

The beautifully laid-out space is gently warmed by underfloor heating, with stunning tiled flooring running through the ground-floor, adding an element of sophistication.

Rustle up a heart-warming meal in the contemporary kitchen, which has fantastic amenities and bespoke quirks such as the horizontal bar previously used by the Blacksmith.

Step through to the dining area and settle down together to pop open a bottle of fizz to celebrate your marvellous holiday in the countryside.

Unwind on the sumptuous sofa, where an exposed brick wall harbours a warming woodburner; relax as the flicker of the fire casts shadows around the room and admire the fascinating images of The Old Smithy prior to its renovation.

Savour a glass of wine in the courtyard whilst your canine companion stretches its legs, and soak in the tranquility of the peaceful setting of the village.

Stepping indoors, head to the luxurious bathroom complete with handmade bathroom fittings, where you can indulge in a spot of luxury with a bubble bath in the stylish roll-top bath, or stand under the waterfall shower for a relaxing rinse.

As the evening grows dark, retreat up the spiral staircase to the double bedroom, fit with blackout blinds and ample storage, as well as a handy en-suite; this room has an intimate atmosphere with its sloped ceilings and draping plants.

Tuck the younger ones up in the twin room, where the exposed brick wall fills this room with character, offering an idyllic and calming setting for children to rest their heads.

Take advantage of the rural location and lace up your walking boots and embark on an adventure to Hubbard's Hills for a delightful stroll and a picnic, or plan a day out at Bolingbroke Castle to view the engrossing remains, dating back to the 13th century.

Travel further afield to the town of Horncastle where you'll find The Walled Garden Baumber alongside a marvellous selection of antique stores and rustic pubs, perfect for a refreshing tipple after a spot of window shopping.

Visit the Georgian town of Louth, boasting the tallest spired church in the country, where the charming streets are decorated with an abundance of amenities and attractions, including the fascinating exhibitions on display at Louth Museum and the red-brick filmhouse of the Playhouse Cinema.
