  • "Owl's Roost exceeded all of our expectations!"

Although the photos make the property look very inviting, it is even better when you see it in person. Set in a quiet location, it lacks nothing in terms of what you require from a holiday let and the kitchen is extremely well stocked regarding equipment provided. We were made to feel very welcome when we arrived and the owner was very approachable. We were just disappointed that we couldn't stay longer and we hope to return in the near future.

We've been staying in cottages for over 30 years , Owl's Roost would rank in our top five, it's home from home welcoming cosy character , along with the very quiet location & friendly helpful hosts, all contributed to a very relaxing stay away. The cottage is beautifully furnished, thought has been given to the decor and furnishing. You feel like your staying in a home, there's no signs /labels everywhere with instructions of what to do or not to do. Very well equipped kitchen, everything you may require for cooking from a simple meal to a Sunday lunch. We hope to return in the future, thank you!

It actually feels like a home rather than just somewhere to stay and the owner made us feel very welcome. The location is quite remote and very peaceful, just the place to recharge your batteries! However the coast and other places of interest are not far and Lincoln is less than an hour's drive.

The owner was present to show us where things were, answer any questions we had, and then left us to settle in. The cottage is down a very quiet dead end road and at night you could hear a pin drop, it was that quiet. Certainly one of the best cottages we have stayed in and we are hoping to go back again at a later date.

  • "We had a wonderful stay in this lovely cottage."

It is a fascinating region of England with lots to see and do. The cottage itself was warm, comfortable, attractive and nicely decorated for the Christmas season. It was a good location for astronomy when weather allowed and we appreciated the owner allowing us to use parts of his land outside the boundary of the cottage garden for setting up our telescope. Only one tiny negative comment, that we found the fabric conditioner used to wash the duvet cover was too strong. We don't use them at home so are rather sensitive but perhaps it could have been less concentrated. That was all. Feel free to delete last paragraph from published remarks, it is mainly for reference so to speak. Thank you!

Hi Simon, thank you for your kind feedback. Would you mind letting us know how we can improve the facilities and what maintenance needs doing so we can rectify it for our next guests. Many thanks Keith and Janet Property Owner

If you are considering a booking during this difficult period I cannot recommend this cottage enough; the owners take every care and the property itself is exceptionally well equipped and so it was simple to be self-sufficient; we were able to bake and make full roast dinners with the equipment in the kitchen as a clear example of this. You do need a car to be able to access the property and everything around it but regardless of whether you are reading this now or well into the future be assured there are wonderful things to do in the surrounding area. We loved the quiet beach at Hutoft, other beaches at Cleethorpes, Sutton-on-Sea and Mablethorpe. Louth and Alford are beautiful, and Lincoln and the wonderful Rand Park Farm are all close enough for a day trip. It's a wonderful area for walking and within a half mile radius we saw a barn owl, several deer and I am pretty sure a peregrine falcon! I cannot recommend this cottage enough, a tranquil oasis in a lovely area.

About the location

ALFORD

Mablethorpe 8 miles; Skegness 11 miles; Louth 14 miles; Horncastle 15 miles.

Alford is a charming market town in Lincolnshire. It is set at the foot of the Lincolnshire Wolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is about 11 miles north-west of the coastal resort of Skegness. There is a wide range of shops including a pharmacy, grocers and two butchers as well as a large shop which specialises in doll’s houses and their contents. Alford has become an important centre for arts and crafts with many markets held throughout the year. The main market is held in the Market Place every Tuesday and Friday with the craft market being held every August Bank Holiday as well as Christmas markets being held every year. Alford is known for its Grade 1 listed working windmill, which is used commercially to produce stone-ground organic flour. Alford Manor House is a central point in the town, with its exhibitions and museum as well as a tea room and open gardens. With Alford being set in the Lincolnshire Wolds, there are plenty of walking and cycling routes to follow or even take a trip to the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway or Claythorpe Watermill and Wildfowl Gardens, where you will find plenty of birds and animals, with plenty of space to sit and relax with great views of the old mill. Within 30 mins, you will find the seaside resorts of Skegness and Mablethorpe, with great beaches, making a great playground for children and adults alike. For something different, why not visit the towns of Louth or Horncastle, which both have a good range of shops and pubs as well as regular street and farmers markets?
