“Ramsden Hall is nice holiday ...”

Ramsden Hall is nice holiday accommodation in a good location for reaching the coast and other places of interest. It was well equipped and very clean. 2 of the 3 bedrooms are very spacious and so are the bathrooms. The living area is large and great for several people, with comfy sofas and a dining table for 6. The kitchen is well equipped and though there was no welcome pack as such, there were some sachets of coffee and milk, and some loo roll. The surroundings are attractive. ...

The things I was less keen on are probably mostly down to my own lack of personal research. I have looked again at the photos and description, and think I should probably have been able to work out that it is right next to a field and across a narrow road from a commercial farm. On several days there were distinctly unpleasant "country smells" and there were a lot of flies. It was very warm some days when we were there, and so we had a choice between being hot, or opening doors and windows and letting in the flies and smells. There was no fan. The country roads are not suitable for pushchairs as there are no pavements. There were some maintenance issues. I didn't report these as we were able to live with them, but the bulb had gone in the hall outside the bathroom, 2 of the drawer fronts are loose in the kitchen. The internal doors are made of light wood and don't quite fit properly so if the window is open and there is a breeze, they rattle annoyingly at night. The detector for the burglar alarm is set too low in the double bedroom, so everytime you turn over in bed, at night, a bright green light comes on. 2 of the 3 toilets continued to run after flushing (we sorted that ourselves). I did ring the maintenance people just before we left on Friday, to tell them about these things, but there was no answer, despite it being in office hours. For these reasons I'm not sure how good value for money this cottage is, bearing in mind what we paid. In the cottage there is literature that makes it very clear that you are in a farming village and must stick to certain paths as outlined on an ordnance survey map in the cottage - we never did find that, but used our common sense, and didn't venture off the road, nor take the pushchair. I think it would be nice if this sort of thing is made clearer in the description for people to read, before booking, not in the cottage when you actually arrive, because some people may want to take it into account before booking..
