  • "We had a lovely time in Doorbell Cottage, we could not find any fault with the cottage itself, but the kitchen facilities, namely crockery, cutlery, etc was to say the least minimal, just 2 items of each, as we had visitors we could not offer them drinks etc as there wasn't enough mugs or a decent size teapot either."

I think perhaps these small issues could be addressed.

  • "Enjoyed our stay at Doorbell Cottage."

The cottage was comfortable and clean although the bathroom did need some tlc. Found there was plenty of saucepans and baking dishes at the property but would have appreciated extra crockery and cutlery and some washing up liquid ! Would have been good to have also had an up to date visitors book, always find these contain useful information about the area. Had a very enjoyable Sunday lunch and evening meal in The Bell.. Mablethorpe seal sanctuary and Gumby Hall are well worth a visit, but if you don’t like noisy seaside towns then perhaps Skegness is best missed.

On entering the inside of the wooden front door had ingrained dirt, the radiator was filthy. The bathroom had black mould round the bath and a patch of mould in a corner of the ceiling.in the living roomette cushion were grubby and cushion on one dinning room chair was filthy and the other dinning chair was torn with the foam hanging out all plugs came out of one adapter. In kitchen the flooring was not laid properly causing it to be uneven and wearing it away in places.photos can be supplied if needed. We consider the property very poor value for money. • "The cottage was lovely and plenty of car parking on site."

The owners were very helpful and friendly. The owners also run The Bell pub. The food in there was fantastic and plentiful. I am fussy about my steak but it was melt in the mouth. All the staff are friendly and helpful. Buses stop outside the pub to go into Skegness and Lincoln and various Places on the way. There is a public footpath to Wainfleet for a lovely stroll. We certainly would stay there again.

Just four miles from the popular seaside resort of Skegness, the cottages are ideal for couples wanting to explore the nearby sandy coastline, nature reserves and the historic market towns of Horncastle, Louth and Market Rasen. Simple but comfortable, the cottages provide all ground floor accommodation, with compact kitchens and separate sitting rooms, with a dining area. Two of the cottages have a double bedroom and one a twin bedroom, enabling them to cater for different needs. Outside, to the front, there is a small gravelled area with seating, with Church View Cottage offering an additional private and extensive rear, enclosed garden, a pleasant spot to enjoy a morning cup of coffee. The village has excellent facilities, including five inns, a butcher, a baker and a general store. A short stroll up the hill brings you to a picturesque, historic church and there is a nearby windmill open to the public. It is a few minutes’ drive to the traditional seaside town of Skegness, with long sandy Blue Flag beaches, restaurants, cafés and seasonal entertainment and amusements. Nature lovers will enjoy a visit to the seal sanctuary and for golfers, there are numerous links courses along the coast. The surrounding area is peppered with former World War II RAF bases, with an aviation heritage centre at East Kirkby, west of Spilsby. Nearby Horncastle is noted for antiques and bric-a-brac stores, whilst Lincoln is well within reach for a pleasant day out. These well-placed cottages are ideal for an interesting and memorable holiday.

About the location

BURGH LE MARSH

Skegness 4 miles.

The pretty town of Burgh le Marsh, surrounded by open farmland, is just four miles from the popular seaside town of Skegness. Burgh le Marsh has varied amenities, with five pubs all serving food, a butcher's, a baker's and a store. There is a lovely historic windmill and an ancient church, perched high on a hill. There is a mixture of old and new buildings, now housing several tea rooms and restaurants. It has a good road network, with very easy access to Louth, Lincoln and the coast. The nearby coastline has long, sandy beaches and sand dunes, a haven for wildlife, including a couple of seal sanctuaries, notably Donna Nook Seal Reserve to the north of Mablethorpe. This is ideal cycling country, with quiet country routes and flat terrain. The town provides a good base for touring this lesser known coastal district of Lincolnshire.
