  • "Magdalene House is a well-maintained property that is an ideal base for exploring central Louth on foot - you can be in the town centre in 5 minutes - with an off-street location that means you won't be disturbed by passers-by."

The house itself is clean and snug and has a well appointed kitchen should you want to cook. The owner has assembled several folders of local information about Louth and the surrounding region so if you are keen on walking the coast or inland areas you'll find plenty of suggestions.

having the onsite parking with garage was very good even for the small additional charge as parking in the area can be difficult, would highly recommend this property.

Very secluded but right in the heart of town. Great book collection!

  • "The perfect rental if you are looking to get away with the family for a holiday in Lincolnshire."

The house is very well located, just steps away from town with its shops, cafes and outdoor market (on certain days of the week). However, situated down a picturesque and quiet little alley, the house is quiet and private. The house itself is very spacious. The owner has anticipated all your needs including ample throw rugs and games. You just settle in and feel at home. The bedrooms are comfy as well. The house has only one toilet, which can get tricky with larger groups, but once you navigate that, you are all set.

  • "I spent a thoroughly enjoyable week in this lovely, welcoming, Georgian house."

It is in a quiet, safe-feeling, residential part of Louth yet only five minutes from the centre. Parking is on the minor streets nearby and can be sometimes difficult to find. It was warm, comfortable and beautifully clean. It was equipped with everything one could need. Rebecca had thoughtfully left many books and booklets about the history of Louth which were very interesting. I enjoyed following some of the town trails which explored much of its fascinating history. I love the varied architecture of Louth. A walk along the river at Hubbards Hill was a good finish to the day. I visited Lincoln, and Donna Nook Seal reserve where I saw seal pups. Being in the comfort of Magdalene House added much pleasure to my week.

All really thoughtful touches. The house was super warm and cosy, with comfortable sofa and beds. Host was extremely helpful offering tips tailored to our needs. To top it all, the house is right in the centre of Louth, so a brilliant location from which to explore. Thank you for having us!

Comfortable and very well equipped and appointed, it is very central for exploring the town, yet very quiet. It has character, and there is lots of interesting and useful information in the house about Louth and the surrounding countryside.

Great location for the Wolds. Very informative owner. On street parking but within minutes found somewhere and used local buses. I would totally recommend Magdalene House and will definitely stay again if we’re in the area.

  • "Great location and a very comfortable property."

A lot of thought had gone into providing things a visitor might need; beach towels and toys, kitchen equipment and condiments. There was a lovely bathroom with plenty of hot water. Very good wifi and plenty of comfortable chairs. The weather was pretty wet and cold while we visited and the heating worked well and was very fast to warm up. There is a cute little yard with places to sit if the weather had been warmer. We will definitely be back!

The property

Nestled up a quiet passageway, just a two-minute walk from the heart of one of Lincolnshire’s prettiest market towns, lies Magdalene House – a charming three bedroom, detached Georgian townhouse located in Louth, Lincolnshire.

Built in the 1830s, this home displays the architectural features typical of the Georgian style – light-filled rooms, high ceilings, sash windows and ornamental stained glass.

The ground floor sitting room exudes a country flavour – of pheasants, horses and hedgerows, the capacious sofa and comfy armchairs are complemented by a selection of interesting local prints painted by well-known Louth artists, not feeling like watching TV then why not grab a book from one of the upstairs bedrooms – you are spoilt for choice!

The eat-in kitchen/diner seats six and next to the kitchen is the mud room which has been kitted out with portable beach/picnic chairs and tables, beach towels, beach toys and picnic accessories - all to be used for those trips to the nearby coast, parks and countryside.

The enclosed small courtyard can be used all year round; it is a great suntrap in the warmer weather and sheltered enough for use in the winter.

Patio furniture is on hand and for the younger children in the party why not set up the portable picnic table and chairs for some outside arts and crafts, games etc, there’s even a paddling pool available for those who really feel like getting cool!

Upstairs there are three bedrooms - one small double and two king size beds – calm and comfortable spaces perfect for some alone time, catching up on correspondence, reading or watching TV.

And even though you are only a stone’s throw away from the town centre… you would think you were in the country as it is so quiet and tranquil.

A lovely feature is the stained glass window in the upstairs WC - offering a glorious view over the rooftops to St James’ Church – boasting the tallest parish church spire in England.

The historic market town of Louth, dating back to pre-Roman times, is a wonderful place to visit – there’s so much to see… for shopping – there’s a wealth of small independent specialist shops, three weekly markets and the cattle market - the last remaining livestock market in Lincolnshire.

For eating out there’s an excellent choice of pubs, restaurants, delicatessens and tearooms.

Looking for an unusual artifact or relic then visit any of the local antique shops, Auction House or reclamation yard.

And there’s Hemswell - the biggest indoor Antiques Centre in Europe - just 40 minutes away and nearby Horncastle also has a heap of antique shops to explore.

There is an abundance of Georgian buildings (many listed) to explore and Louth Museum offers walking tours on a variety of topics to do with Architecture and local historic events, the Cathedral City of Lincoln – 50 minutes away – is similar to Louth but on a much bigger scale. Louth is known as the capital of the Lincolnshire Wolds – which has been given AONB (Area of Outstanding Beauty) status and is located just 15 miles from the east coast.

There are some well known seaside towns to visit including Mablethorpe, Cleethorpes, Skegness and Sutton-on-Sea but if you are seeking a more remote and unspoilt beach then try Anderby Creek, Mogg’s Eye or Huttoft.

Of course there’s the typical country pursuits to enjoy as well… rambling, cycling, bird watching, horse riding and golfing.

Louth also offers a thriving theatre scene, movie house, jazz club, museum, leisure centre and tennis centre, and St James’ Church is a regular venue for concerts by local musicians, choirs and international artists. Some annual local events include: April to December - come and celebrate the Lincolnshire Wolds 50th Anniversary as an AONB; August 26/27/28 - Bennett British Superbike Championship @Cadwell Park; September 2/3/9/10 - Lincolnshire Wolds & Coast Churches Festival; Nov/Dec - Seal Birthing Spectacle @Donna Nook. Magdalene House is a great choice for a getaway for anyone – from a single person, couples, families or a group of friends.

Centrally located, this elegant period property offers a relaxing and charming holiday base, whatever the season.

Countryside and the Lincolnshire coast is on your doorstep but you are close to all local amenities and entertainment.
