  • "This is a stunning property in a wonderful peaceful location with good walks direct from the door."

We hadn't been to this area before so spent quite a lot of time driving to the many places to visit highlighted by Nic and Claire in the information books. The roads were significantly quieter that we are used to in Sussex which made the visit more pleasurable. We could easily have stayed in the property in peace just looking at the wonderful scenes outside the windows. A top notch place to stay!

  • "Wow! What can we say, a truly stunning property in a lovely location."

Warm, comfortable, with everything you would need for a truly relaxing break. The decor and finish keep your interest throughout the stay. We walked daily from the Pump House, along the River idle in different directions. Plenty of walks to choose from. We ate at a couple of the restaurants, bistros that the hosts Nic & Claire had recommended. Thank you to Nic & Claire for all the information they provide, the lovely welcome pack on arrival and just their warm, friendly but not intrusive help if required. Absolutely no doubt we will be returning and recommending the Pump House Studio to others.

  • "Places like this are rare."

Amazing and rare. If only all holiday accommodations where so well thought out, so well hosted and delivered the relaxing calmness of our stays in the Pump House Art Studio. Touring the UK in the last few years we’ve stayed in a lot of holiday cottages, the Pump House Art Studio is still one of the best and most outstanding accommodations we’ve experienced. Revisiting a property is rare for us, but the mix of hosting, accommodation and facilities works very well and this visit was our third. The property always feels special and an honour to experience. It’s well maintained, perfectly clean, always a delight. A space to breathe and calm, reset the soul. For us, a place to read, cook, yoga or walk. The views from the property are heart calming and the walks on the doorstep easy and flat, river side and canal side – although perhaps a little muddy, but the Pump House Art Studio hosts do provide wellies if required. The kitchen design allows it to be flexible to be social or a pastry cooks delight and it is spotlessly clean. A large granite worktop/long island accessed from all sides, suitable for food preparation, baking, socialising, or eating at (although there is also a lovely eating space in the main room or outside in warmer weather). The bathroom still feels and looks new. It offers a lovely comfortable bath with good water depth for a proper long soak and hot water is plentiful. Although a shower over a bath isn’t my preference, here the clever shower screen folding back so as to not inhibit the bath’s side at all is fantastic and changes the whole experience. And equally, as a shower, it’s great. It’s these small details that give this place the edge. Although the property has no fixed blinds or curtains, within the bedrooms dark conditions for sleep can be achieved with cleverly designed removable window coverings that sit within the window at night and are then hung up to the side, in the day time. And we found these could be positioned to allow for some ventilation if the windows to be opened. This décor decision allowing the full majesty of the windows within the building, as well as the views beyond, to be enjoyed. And on many occasions of our stays, a golden sun-rise to be experienced fully through the large window at the back of the property. Although skipping downstairs first thing in the morning it’s useful to know that the stairs’ window looks over the river idle and a quiet footpath; I’ve never yet surprised or been surprised by an early morning walker, but it’s something to note – perhaps ensure you take something to throw on for making that early morning cup of tea! The Pump House Art Studio hosts have got it just right. Their pre-arrival email informative, essentials at the beginning and then things to do locally and further afield – all of which they have done so they know what they’re recommending. And their information packs on arrival are equally impressive – easy to use and beautifully presented. And if you have a question or concern, they are speedy to answer and helpful in response – yet not intrusive in any way. Again a perfect balance. The property itself, is like staying in a museum of taste, art and space. An ode to our industrial past, made into the space that is comfortable, tasteful, educational and outrageously spacious. With original art works on the wall, classic furniture pieces, space, happy green living plants, a heritage printing press in the large entrance, welly pegs and heritage coat hooks made from nails manufactured on site during its industrial past – and its comfortably done allowing visitors to relax and find that holiday bliss. All this sitting in a delightful nature setting with views of water, sky and nature. Once again, I can only highly recommend this place and give it a 5 star plus review on all counts.

  • "What an amazing place!"

We loved every minute of our two week stay at The Pump House. The property is very comfortable and well equipped. We could have easily spent the whole holiday without leaving the property, discovering its quirks, enjoying the artwork, the library, the stunning views from every window. Watching the kingfisher, stoat, deer and other wildlife outside was a delight, as was listening to the owls after dark. We did force ourselves to leave the Pump House though, and discovered nice walks along the beautiful River Idle and Chesterfield Canal nearby. Misterton is a pleasant village with a well stocked supermarket, excellent butcher and a great chippy. The Pump House is also a great base for exploring the many attractions of the region, including historic Lincoln, National Trust and other grand estates, and many nature reserves across Notts, Lincs and Yorks. It was a privilege to spend time at The Pump House. Nic and Claire are fantastic hosts and wonderful custodians of this incredible property; we thank them very much for an unforgettable holiday.

I don’t usually write reviews but I felt compelled to on this occasion. The pre-arrival information from the hosts was well thought out and helpful. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by Nic and Claire. When we entered the studio, it definitely has the ‘wow’ factor. It is spacious, full of natural light, spotlessly clean and very well-equipped. You cannot fail to be impressed. The welcome hamper was much appreciated. We’ve been lucky to stay in a lot of holiday properties, but the experience at this one beats them all. There’s plenty to do in the area including Gainsborough Old Hall and Bawtry. There are a couple of pubs a short stroll away but the Art Studio is so great you don’t want to be away from it for long. We really didn’t want to leave this unique property and can’t wait for our next visit. Thanks Nic and Claire.

  • "We are so pleased we found this amazing property."

We've already booked our third visit. Summer time offers two great out door spaces, one at the front and a larger one at the back. Winter offered a well heated beautiful building with many different places to sit and read, or just watch the views, wildlife and sun rise/set. The design detail in this property is outstanding. Nic and Claire, the hosts, have thought of everything. The property in "the real" was even more fabulous than the images. Nothing prepared me for the space, height and tranquillity. The landscape and town beyond offer great gentle walking, on dykes, riverside or by canal. The butchers (with banter) and coop offered us everything we needed for self catering - both within walking distance. And on days we wanted to treat ourselves there was the outstanding 80/20 Pantry deli/cafe (daytime) for some outstanding food, as well as a takeaway/eat in fish and chip shop. Again both within walking distance. We didn't eat in the pubs but we did walk to one which served food, it was busy with customers eating. We enjoyed a shandy outside watching the river. This holiday venue is fab especially if you're looking for easy going luxury offering time to leave the car parked and want to enjoy nature, good food and reading. Although saying that if you want to drive, there is also much on offer.

Every detail had been thought through and executed fabulously including the very generous hamper of lovely local produce supplied by the wonderful owners. We have stayed in a lot of excellent properties over the years but this had the wow factor for sure. The history of the property is very interesting and added a different dimension to our stay and the views and general location were beautiful. I’m sure in nicer weather it would be even more stunning. We were just interested in a relaxing time but all the local facilities were excellent and you are not far from all manner of civilisation if that’s what you want. I can’t recommend this property highly enough and I’m sure we will stay here again.

How to convey how much we love this place? Apart from being superbly comfortable, immaculately clean, very spacious and well equipped, unique in style and history, it has an unmatched quality of peace and tranquillity. In our view Nic and Claire are the consummate hosts. Whilst they are never intrusive, they always respond immediately and generously to our needs, always greet us warmly, and in so many ways make us feel incredibly welcome. We love watching all the wildlife, the deer, fox, mink, kingfisher, moorhens and more. What could be more pleasant than sitting with a coffee or a glass of wine, on the sunny terrace, watching the brilliant kingfisher repeatedly diving for his dinner! 5* From the moment we arrived we were made welcome by Nic and Claire. There is surprise around every corner at The Pump House. Attention to detail is fantastic. Every stone turned at The Pump House tells a little story. Information provided is endless. The scenery is fantastic from every position (internally and externally). The walks are endless and can be done in any direction. The artwork is stunning, and in every corner of The Pump House. As said before, every corner tells a story whether though artistic impression or attention to detail on a really sympathetic restoration. Staying at The Pump house caused quite a stir with friends from the local area who (as children) had played in the ruins. Everybody had a tale to tell about this place, and in turn only added to the drama of our stay. The property

Originally built over 160 years ago, The Pump House Art Studio is a special and unique, Grade II* listed property.

Formerly a working pump house, used to drain excess water from the The Mother Drain, dug in 1790, into The River Idle, it has been transformed into a stunning, contemporary art studio and holiday let.

Settled in the village of Misterton in northern Nottinghamshire, The Pump House Art Studio is one of two identical buildings, named by the Victorians Kate and Ada, one being the owners' home, each with dramatic chimney stacks and connected by a beautiful glass walkway over the water.

Follow the rural country lane up to the property and admire the scenic surroundings before parking up and entering into the beautiful living space - be impressed by huge windows flooding the area with light, dramatic high ceilings and an array of stylish furniture to relax on, surrounded by fantastic artwork by the owners and other local artists.

Enjoy watching TV, quirkily propped up by an easel, whilst lounging on the long sofa, or sit at the impressive dining table as you plan your next adventures.

The property is full of interesting items and furnishings, as well as a vintage press sitting beneath the mezzanine.

Discover a wonderfully styled kitchen with grey subway tiling where you can get creative with the array of cooking appliances, with a unique breakfast bar island to perch at and pop open a bottle of fizz to toast to your fabulous escape.

Enjoy peaceful moments in the library, with two plush seats to relax in and a large window offering views over the water.

A further tranquil living space can be found up on the first-floor mezzanine, featuring rustic timber beams, an original arched window and further beautiful seating.

Settle down in one of two double bedrooms where the décor continues to impress, both served by a sleek and fully tiled bathroom.

Enjoy spending time out in the well-kept garden, whether alfresco dining at the outdoor patio furniture or sunbathing on the lawn.

Take a stroll down into the village of Misterton to discover all you need for your self-catered stay, including a Co-op, several takeaways, a great fish and chip shop and a pub, or amble off road along The River Idle to The Haxey Inn for the Sunday carvery.

The surrounding area is a wonderful haven for walkers with lots of countryside to explore and walks along The Idle and The Chesterfield Canal.

Yards away from your front door is The River Idle and its surrounds with an abundance of great British wildlife including kingfishers, buzzards, owls, heron, woodpecker, moorhen and numerous birds!

The Art Studio is sited directly on a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) - Head down to Idle Valley Nature Reserve to admire the striking wetland scenery.

Head for the medieval city of Lincoln to see the incredible cathedral and adjacent castle, or perhaps visit The International Bomber Command Centre and memorial if you are interested in WWII history.

Or for excitement there's the big cats at The Yorkshire Wildlife Park or Doncaster Races, home of The St.Leger Festival.

Delight in peaceful afternoons on the green at Thornock Park golf course, attend a riding class at the local equestrian centre, or stay closer to home and spend time fishing on the stretch of the River Idle which the owners have rights to.

Enjoy the wonderful countryside surroundings on your relaxing escape to the historic, Grade II* listed wonder that is The Pump House Art Studio.
