The small village of Old Bolingbroke lies on the edge of the rolling countryside of the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just fifteen miles from the coast. Historically known for its castle ruins and nearby Civil War Battle of Winceby, this quiet village has a local pub and is within easy distance of the market towns of Spilsby and Horncastle. Spilsby offers a choice of tea rooms, pubs and independent retailers, whilst Horncastle is a thriving centre for the antiques trade, and has an excellent choice of restaurants and cafes. The countryside around Old Bolingbroke is perfect cycling and walking country, with a network of public footpaths, trails and peaceful country lanes to enjoy. The unspoilt pasture valley of Sow Dale nature reserve is a short step from the village, and Snipe Dales nature reserve and country park lie only three miles away, where there is an extensive network of easy-access paths. The nearby coastline has traditional seaside resorts, including Skegness and Mablethorpe, with their long, sandy beaches and dunes, dotted with nature reserves.
