  • "A lovely cottage in a remote spot but within easy reach of all you need."

Well appointed and I suspect a week here when it's warm would be fabulous, however cottage was warm and roomier on the inside than its looks. Fully enclosed garden meant we were very relaxed letting our dog out and she enjoyed the space. Would 100% return and Alford was my kind of small old market town.

  • "It was a beautiful cottage with a great garden and summer house, we understand that It wouldn't be perfect but it was pretty close."

For us with a very active dog we would have found the use of a washing machine for dog towels and blankets very useful. However the location in fantastic, very quiet and remote just how we like it. We would like to return at sometime in the future maybe when its not so wet and muddy.

It was very clean and just the right size for us with our Labrador. The kitchen was well stocked and a selection of films to watch on rainy days too. Very warm and cosy and we had a rainy and bitter cold day. The welcome pack was much appreciated with milk, biscuits and dog treats. The garden was lovely to sit in although there was one place our lab could have escaped where there is a gap in the bushes and a very low mesh fence. A simple fix to cure it! We would recommend a stay here and will return again.

Thank you very much for your kind feedback. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. We will investigate the gap and ensure that this is rectified. Best wishes to you all. Property Owner

The cottage is modern, warm throughout (under-floor heating - except the shower room), very well-presented with comfortable bed and furniture, and well-equipped kitchen and shower room. It is in a quiet, rural area and has a secure garden - which our dog loved. Our only minor issue was that it would have been nice to have the heating on when we arrived as it was a cold winter's day and it took several hours to get up the place warm. A new tin-opener is definitely needed too!

Unfortunately when we arrived there was an unpleasant smell from the bathroom. We reported it to the owner the next morning as it was worse and we thought it was from the cesspit. This was rectified the next day but it was 2 days of our holiday spoilt as when we opened the bathroom door the smell came into the kitchen /living room. Not sure if we would book again.

We were mortified when we received your call to report an unpleasant smell in the annex, on the morning of the first day of your holiday and immediately attended the property to resolve the problem. It was evident that the shower drain trap had been removed for cleaning purposes but had not been correctly reinserted. We believed that we had successfully sorted the problem out at the time but unfortunately you reported that the smell had returned the following morning. Whilst you were out for the day we replaced the shower drain trap with a brand new one which resolved the problem immediately. You rang us that evening to say that the problem had indeed, been resolved. We cannot apologise enough that this occurred as it was very unpleasant. We are very sorry that you feel unsure that you would stay at the property again and that it spoilt two days of your holiday. We can assure you that this was an isolated incident that we have now resolved. We take pride in the cleanliness of our property and hope that you understand that from time to time, due to wear and tear, occasionally there will be issues along the way. We guarantee that any issues are resolved as quickly as possible. It was lovely to meet both of you and your wonderful rescue dog, Kos. Kindest regards to you both. Property Owner

The Annex was lovely and warm, though not too hot - we were lucky with the weather for mid to end October but I think one could turn the temperature setting up easily for colder weather. Some have complained about the driveway stones - didn't bother us at all !! Joint best cottage we've stayed in and by far the nearest for us to revisit so that is a definite !! Owner George and his mum (we met them whilst out walking) are just lovely.

The directions to the property were a little misleading and it would be simpler to take the Alford road, turn left after the Grammar School and left again at the t junction. I don't advise anyone to use satnav as we were asked a few times, by delivery drivers, where various cottages were as their SatNavs were taking them round in circles. What3Words however will take you straight to the gate. Other reviews have mentioned the deep gravel but if you reverse onto the gravel up to the gate it's not that bad. It is more tricky to manoeuvre in the turning area so just avoid it. The Annex is clean, warm, comfortable and fully equipped. It's location, means there is no light or noise pollution so you can either snooze on the provided loungers, listening to the birdsong, or wander down the lanes to look for hares, rheas, lamas or alpacas before doing a bit of stargazing into the night. Bliss!
