  • "A perfectly adequate place to stay with good amenities."

Clean and well maintained. Parking is a little tight - as is the turn in the road from St David’s direction! Would have been nice to have the heating turned up a bit higher on our arrival - pretty chilly and wet day. Lots of blankets available though, to keep us warm. Lots of lovely hot water .: but the water heater was very noisy in the night at times! Towels - no handtowels hanging ready in bathrooms .. and bath towels were quite small. Solva is a gorgeous little village. We enjoyed a meal at the Hats and Barrels - friendly with good food. The coast walk from Solva to Nine Wells (details in the house file) was lovely. Will definitely consider staying here again.

  • "Ty Talcen had everything we needed."

Very comfy, quiet, clean and tidy. Geraldine the lady who looks after the place was excellent when we had a couple of queries. Parking at side of property was fine for our estate car. Solva is a lovely village with plenty of pubs with good food. Only a few mins walk. Coast path very close. Good beaches very close. We had a lovely stay. Thanks.

  • "Overpriced."

I visited friends nearby and they paid half the price for a larger, more modern, beautifully furnished, updated property. Couches are shabby and need to be replaced. Parking is a pain especially if you have a larger vehicle.

We do pride ourselves with the cleanliness and facilities of this well placed holiday home. - we are sorry that your experience wasn’t the best for you. The parking areas should facilitate your van - and there should be two spaces to choose from We are considering the sofa as we feel they may be too big for the room - however we can’t change the parking Sykes the experts set the fees at the rate for the season and the area visiting and we are totally governed my their expertise with the regard to the prices set Thank you for visiting beautiful Solva and this outstanding area of unspoilt beauty Property Owner

  • "Steps down to front door and steps down from kitchen/dining area not suitable for elderly and those with mobility issues."

We were overlooked by parked cars to front and patio area also. Not very inviting as close to next property and looking at others washing on line.No privacy outside. Sofas very uncomfortable and badly placed to watch TV.However the Pembrokeshire coast was amazing.

Good evening We take on your comments and they are well noted. Naturally you can see by the photographs that you may be overlooked however we have never felt that personally and felt the house private and peaceful so we are sorry that you feel otherwise We are not great tv watchers and the tv is there as a tick box however If we can rearrange the room to suit guest we will certainly look into this I feel that this was not your best experience which is sad however we are glad that you love this beautiful area as we do Your comments have been noted and we will endeavour to do our best going forward Property Owner

  • "A very roomy and comfortable cottage."

Very quiet and peaceful and close to an excellent shop, walks and pubs. 2 kitchen light bulbs were out of action so not adequate lighting for the table area but one bulb was replaced after 2 days. Otherwise excellent facilities. Solva has a lovely coffee shop with various flavours of welsh cakes and there are interesting art and pottery shops. We were welcomed by the locals for coffee at the Community Memorial Hall and had an interesting chat.

  • "The owner was extremely kind and gave extra towels for a visitor."

The house was just about perfect - the configuration of the living room wasnt perfect but it is hard to see how they could change that. Otherwise everything was great.

  • "The cottage was easy to find from the directions provided."

It was comfortable and had everything we needed for our week's stay The decsription did not make it abundantly clear that this cottage was not usitable for a person with mobility disabilities (this did not affect us) but the were large steps to enter the property, large steps betweek the kitchen and lounge The suite in the lounge I feel needs replacement as it is looking tired and the settee is one of dubious comfort A king size bed would be better but as it is it is more than adequate.

  • "The house was spacious, very clean, warm and well-equipped."

However, there was a lingering bad smell somewhere in the living room, but we could not track it down. This smell lasted all week, and it was not a “wet dog” smell! The 3-piece suite was old, uncomfortable, and smelled musty. We discovered that the double bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. We’ve seen reviews where these problems have been raised, and the owners’ response that they are going to do something about them. This is good news for future guests, but not for us. The smart TV was quite new, but slow, and didn’t respond at all well to the remote control. It was a smart TV, but was not set up to stream ITV or Channel 4. It didn’t stream anything well, and on Thursday night it stopped altogether. Fortunately, we had an iPad, which worked fine, meaning that the problem was with the TV, and not the Wi-Fi. Overall, our experience was not what we expected, and we are disappointed. We’d like to thank Geraldine very much. She gave us a very friendly welcome, and went out of her way to help us with the problem we had with our car on the way down. She made the house spotlessly clean and well-presented. Finally, we would like to ask why we had to pay £49 to make our own on-line booking for our holiday. There seems to be no justification for this. It won’t do to claim this is an “admin fee”, because we did the booking. And other companies don’t charge admin fees for the use of their services as part of their business. So why has this charge been made? We’ve tried to contact Sykes Cottages to ask this question, but there seems to be no way to contact them.

  • "The plus points about the cottage were the large well equipped kitchen, the adequate bathrooms good parking and good Wifi connection."

The springs in the mattress on the double bed had worn out, as had the springs in the 3 piece suite downstairs. The living room is rather dark and soulless and the cottage has no outlook. As we had good weather we did not spend much time in the cottage during the day, which was as well as there was nowhere comfortable to sit.

Thank you for your comments. As Ty Talcen’s new owners, we hope to improve on this already lovely cottage and continue to welcome any positive and constructive feedback guests may have. Property Owner

All beds could be more sturdy but no complaints they were fine. Would be nice to have more space to sit outdoors by the door into the kitchen. Otherwise it was excellent.

  • "Great location."

Decor and furniture is a little tired. Washing line outside was broken and the cottage smelt of wet dogs when we first arrived and there was a wet patch under the sofa in the lounge area.

A superb village around a tidal harbour where boats can be launched and walks along the dramatic coast path will be a delight any time of the year. This pretty little village may be small but offers friendly pubs serving good food, gift shops, art galleries and a nearby superb woollen mill shop where special gifts can be bought to remember your stay in Wales. Lazy days sitting and watching the ebb and flow of the tide and the boats bobbing in and out of the harbour are a sheer delight. Visit the nearby woollen mill itself to sit by the waterwheel, go into the weaving shed or enjoy a break in the cafe. Just a few miles from Solva you can visit St Davids, the smallest city in Britain, with its magnificent St Davids Cathedral and wander the small streets to again find unique gifts, eat a hearty meal or an afternoon tea, or just sit in the peaceful grounds of the cathedral, it also houses Oriel y Parc an information centre offering suggestions for exploring the surrounding area.
