We had a lovely weekend at The Lodge, couldn’t fault a thing, absolutely lovely place with everything you could ask for, we would definitely recommend The Lodge

  • "Absolutely loved the property, the kindness of the owners, the comfort and high quality of the cabin and the prosecco and chocolate on welcome."

Be aware the oven is very small, so not ideal for a big meal, but we made it work

It is clear that the owners have put a lot of thought into making sure the property meets renters needs which makes it a very pleasant experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to come again. Many thanks, Ian.

  • "Beautiful accommodation."

Brand new, cosy, well equipped and in the middle of nature. We saw many birds, pheasants, squirrels and a dear. The owners were very hospitable and friendly. We were allowed to pick their apples, pears, prunes and raspberries. The environment was spectaculor. We made many walks in the hills of Clun and Bishop's Castle.

  • "An absolute gem."

We've been using Sykes for many years and stayed in some excellent accommodation but No.1 The Lodge would probably now be top my list. It could be that I was very ready for a 'get away from it all' experience but then again it could be the very pleasant and welcoming hosts (right balance of help/privacy), the immaculate spacious facilities, the setting in its own grounds, the large glass patio doors opening out onto nature, the outdoor opportunities for al fresco living and the location in the AONB Shropshire hills. Highly recommended.

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!"

The lodge is set in such a peaceful location, so it was easy to switch off for the weekend, but still within easy access of local amenities. The setting is gorgeous and can’t be justified by pictures alone- we loved it. The owners were so lovely and welcoming and it is clear to see the care and attention they have put in to the finish and decoration of the lodge. They had left us some milk, orange juice and a bottle of bubbly and explained everything we needed to know as we arrived, but had also contacted us beforehand with helpful information on how to find them which was really appreciated. Also to note, the bed is huge and so comfy! Thank you!

Lovely holiday home in such an amazing location topped off by wonderful hosts. Everything inside the property Is high end spec and it was unbelievably clean. Nice little touches like milk and wine left for us on arrival. Would recommend this to anyone looking for somewhere to stay looking for peace and quiet but close enough to local amenities and walks.

On arrival we found the lodge to be just like the pictures! once inside we found a bottle of fizz, milk and some orange juice which was a lovely touch! the BBQ had fresh coals and the fire pit had a stack of wood by the side which was perfect for the evenings. There was plenty of facilities inside to enjoy also, games, nice big telly and a folder containing local information. The kitchen was also equipped with everything we needed and then some! Would definitely recommend!

  • "We have stayed in a number of cottages over the years, but I have to say that our stay here was without doubt THE perfect break that we have always been looking for!"

The most wonderful hosts you could ever wish to meet, made us feel completely at ease and extremely welcome. As for the cottage itself, we have never found our all perfect cottage, until we came across this beautiful and idyllic place. Perfectly set within a wooded area, looking out onto hilly forests and mature trees. But our delight was in the particular wildflower area directly outside our lodge. With the serenity and the beauty of the wildlife that it attracted was truly a most beautiful source of much needed relaxation to us both. We spent the majority of our evenings sitting outside in front of the chimnea having drinks and listening to the wildlife until the early hours. We have never experienced or enjoyed a holiday so peaceful and relaxing as this, and we didn’t realise how much we needed to until we got here! We cannot recommend this lodge highly enough, especially for people wanting to recharge and get away from it all! We most definitely will return and look forward to it!

  • "A great find."

Spent four lovely nights (wished it could have been more!) at No 1 The Lodge. Nothing to complain about, wonderful interesting hosts and fantastic facilities. Nice to get a super king size bed, something we often can't find. The whole house filtered fresh air system is very impressive too; great if pollen is your enemy! Oh and plants to buy as well. We would highly recommend. Many thanks.

  • "Lovely setting with wonderful views."

The outside sitting area was very pleasant, private and restful. All well appointed and excellently maintained. The bed, shower and heating system most particularly convenient and comfortable for someone recovering from major surgery. Even the 4 outside steps were manageable both back and front. The single last one at the end of the path less so as there is no rail. Owners were helpful and accommodating. But, finding out how some of the appliances worked, was baffling. Particularly the TV. Watched Netflix mainly. More storage in the bedroom would be useful. There is room for it. Also, a teapot for two people. We made our tea in a saucepan!

The setting is lovely. The property has been designed to meet the needs of holiday makers unlike most properties on this and similar websites. A huge amount of thought has gone into making the experience as good as possible. We loved every minute. This part of Shropshire is some of the most attractive scenery in England. In summary wonderful.

Inside, the lodge was light and airy and cosy with lots of modern facilities and high level of comfort. The owners Chad, Francis and Joy were so kind and welcoming and were always very happy to help. At night, it was great to have no light pollution and not to be under a flight path! We really enjoyed our stay and definitely were able to get away from it all in the lodge. The outdoor table and chairs and firepit were also a lovely touch and it was nice to enjoy meals outside when warm enough. We were happy to be so near to Clun and to Wales too. Would be lovely to book it again in the near future!

  • "Perfect hosts!"

Perfect lodge! On arrival Joy and Francis were there to greet us. They are both extremely friendly and helpful. We were blown away by the standard of the accommodation. We had Prosecco in the fridge along with milk, olives, coffee and chocolate. We had shopped en route and prepared a simple supper and sat in the garden. We had a walk around the grounds and then slept soundly in the very comfy bed.
Saturday we went into Bishops Castle and had lunch at the Chai shop. Tina is an amazing host and very good Indian cook. We also had a drink in the oldest licensed brewery in England.
The local walks are great and easy to walk the area around the lodge. The local vineyard in Montgomery is lovely, tasted wine and had lunch.
The lodge is in a very central position for lots of activities. Both Francis and Joy recommend Kerrys ridge which had amazing views.
We can’t recommend this place enough. We will definitely return. Thanks for a wonderful week!

Surrounded on all sides by trees it was very secluded and quiet. The people were really friendly and left me alone to just enjoy the nature and get away from everything. The only issue I had was a lack of washing facilities as I spent 2 weeks there, but other than that I would highly recommend this place and would be very interested in going back.

  • "A perfect stay."

The cottage completely satisfied our needs. It is very private being lost in the surrounding garden, meadow and woodland-even though the owners are only 40 met. away. Very quiet so plenty of wildlife which the owners have encouraged by their planting (birds, butterflies, moths at this time of year). Plenty to do on your doorstep if you like walking and old villages. Good places to eat nearby, especially Bishops Castle. An excellent place to get away from it all. John

Thank you so much for your excellent feedback and we are so glad you enjoyed not only the accommodation but the local area. It was a pleasure to have you stay. Best regards Chad Property Owner

  • "The perfect secluded haven/sanctuary we needed to escape the world."

Lovely walking around the grounds of woodland and wild flower meadows early morning / late evening with a background of birdsong. Watching the sunset behind the wooded hills noshing on toasted marshmallows around the fire pit. Good wifi if you do decide to turn a screen on, super comfy bed, nice bathroom and more than adequate kitchen for the four nights we stayed. Lovely to just get the supplies needed and stay put awhile but plenty of local walks, village pubs/cafes/supermarkets and curio shops just a short drive away. So glad to have booked here - definitely a treat, ticked every box for us and would highly recommend.

Thank you for your lovely comments, it was a pleasure to have hosted you both. Property Owner

We were met by Joy and Francis who showed us though the property and how everything worked. They were both very pleasant and helpful. No1 is situated in a private spot. It is quiet, comfortable, and appointed to a very high standard. The outside areas also work really well, with a BBQ and fire pit and a lovely outlook over the surrounding countryside. Access to nearby attractions, restaurants, and pubs is simple. The owners have also put a comprehensive guide together. Would definitely recommend staying here if you would like a peaceful break in beautiful countryside.
