  • "New electric car charger fitted - a wonderful surprise!"

Capel Soar is one of the best places to stay - ever. Capel Soar really is fantastic. Convenient yet quiet location, half way between Dolgellau and Barmouth just a short 400 metres from the Mawddach estuary in a wonderful setting. So quiet we could hear lots of owls calling each other as soon as dusk fell. Warm and cosy with so much space. The master bedroom with en suite is enormous. The dining room seats 10 people easily. Lovely lounge and log burner. Very well equipped, super clean and comfortable. The broadband was incredibly fast. On arrival we had a wonderful surprise- a newly fitted electric car charger, which saved searching for one and queing if we were lucky enough to find a public one working. We will definitely return to this idyllic property.

  • "The only defect in this otherwise lovely property was the lack of a charger for electric vehicles."

Two couples in our party have such cars, and they had to go down into Dolgellau to charge them--but a number of the chargers in the town were not working! So not a great situation. Surely it is in the letter's interest to instal a charger!

Thank you for commenting how lovely the property is. We have already recognised the need and will be installing a charger in November at Capel Soar for our guests convenience. It will be the fastest charger available. Also in November we will be opening up the large garden area at the rear where there will be a table seating 8 people for outside dining, in addition to the table at the front. Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful time at Capel Soar, the cottage was very comfortable and the kitchen facilities were excellent."

The only thing I think it worth mentioning is that of the two cafetières in the kitchen, one had not been cleaned out and the old coffee grains had gone mouldy in the bottom. We put it to soak for a few days then ran it through the dishwasher and it seemed ok. It might be worth mentioning to the cleaning company to check them. The other thing was the glass on the wood burner had not been cleaned. We did clean it , but unfortunately due to running out of time when leaving on Monday morning, didn’t have time to do it again. So whilst we left it as we found it, I would have liked to have left it clean. We will certainly use you again and will recommend you to others. This was a special trip to celebrate my husband’s 70th birthday with family and we all had a great time. Thank you

The surroundings are beautiful, and there are plenty of lovely walks nearby. Our favourite walk was further up the lane to the waterfalls, passing ponies on the way. Brilliant location, and we took full advantage of the local hostelries, especially George the Third. Just remember that the toll bridge closes at 6.30. We are looking forward to returning soon.

  • "Beautifully appointed property with all the plush furnishings, bedding & towels to feel v luxurious."

Perfect temperature in the heatwave! While it may not be used that often, relaxing outdoor furniture would have been the icing on the cake ☺️ Beautiful peaceful location with plentiful walks from the door or a short drive away quickly revealing glorious views over Cader Idris. The constant background noise of the waterfall was just lovely. A couple of housekeeping niggles, message left on cleaning co answerphone neither responded to or dealt with, reported here to make sure owner is informed. Lads who came to clean as we left were apologetic. No dishcloths, dusters, sponges etc made washing up & keeping things clean rather tricky. Plenty of cleaning materials suggest this was an oversight? Rather mean supplies of toilet roll/dishwasher tablets and no laundry liquid was a surprise at this standard of property, had to go shopping on the first day to replenish and there were only 5 of us! No plasters in first aid kit. Strobe like light outside garage shining on neighbours property with no off switch needs prompt attention. Other than that superb stay, thankyou

Thank you for your positive comments. We love the sound of the water too. After rain it is tremendous. We will have an extra area for relaxing as we have purchased a piece of land behind the Chapel. We need to put a gate in the stone wall and build a seating area plus a barbecue, but it will be work done between lets so not as quick as we would like. The lack of cleaning materials was an oversight which is unusual but mistakes sometimes happens. (Such as not placing the key back in the key safe when leaving and having to send out someone to allow the next guests in!) Yes, anyone can make a mistake but we are all human. The light and first aid kit is being attended to. We do appreciate anything not correct to be brought to our attention and will endeavor to rectify any issues. Property Owner

We did suffer from two breaks in water supply over the week due to a local mains failure (not anything that the owner could do about this) Here are a few things that could be improved for future guests: Parts of the property weren't adequately cleaned (bath needed cleaning before use and there was some food debris on the kitchen sides) The bath towels could be larger when next purchased The property instructions asked us to bag our dirty linen in provided bags but none were available Could have had a better supply of toilet rolls, hand soap, laundry powder and dishwasher tablets on arrival An outside security light kept flickering all night - This was reported to the management company

  • "The property is in a lovely location and is really well equipped with everything we needed."

Pool table a nice extra. With regard to cleanliness, unfortunately we found a pair of ladies knickers and a tissue behind one of the twin beds, and a crisp packet behind a bedside cabinet in the double corner room. Whilst we have no problem leaving the property as we found it, we felt that the requirement to strip the beds as requested in the email was the cleaners job. Would have been useful to have a space beside both beds in the twin room. Information on the history of the property would be interesting. However we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend.

We had the best week here 2 sisters, mum and families. 3 Kids ranging from 9 months to 9 years. The rooms are so spacious and the beds really comfy. The bathrooms lovely and the showers powerful. Kitchen had most things we needed - scales would be a good extra if at all possible but the foil, cling film and tea coffee were excellent and so many cups, plates and glasses. The games supplied were great too along with the pool table. We would definitely come back for another visit and will be recommending to friends. A couple of suggestions to make it even more perfect. A travel cot or even permanent cot to save travel space in cars and in the smaller double a set of drawers for clothes would be an added bonus. Your curtain material is absolutely gorgeous too and will be used in one of our rooms at home! Thank you so much.

We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay at Capel Soar. Thank you for your enthusiastic and positive comments. We have taken note of your constructive suggestions and will be acting on them. We hope you can return in the future - you will be very welcome. Property Owner

Thanks for tea coffee And bara brith Couldn’t find washing line or pegs . Needed to dry using Solar energy...enjoyed Fairbourne and excellent weather

It is pleasing you found Capel Soar such a wonderful home, and yes, it is in a very tranquil and beautiful place. The previous guest contacted me after seeing your comments and was very indignant regarding the oven. He was adamant it was clean when he left, plus the cleaning company were also surprised by your comments as they checked it at changeover. I would ask why you waited until the day before departure to contact the cleaning company if it was as bad as you reported? They offered to come out that day but had no reply. We supply a starter pack of logs, in line with the majority of holiday lets. We have a tumble drier and clothes drier but no washing line. Property Owner

We stayed as a large group with my parents, partner and four children so ages ranged from 60 years to 20 months and everyone had an amazing time. The accommodation was simply stunning, everything was very high quality and nothing had been missed. The bedding was just pure luxury and made for a very comfortable nights sleep. The dinning table was great, we could all sit down for a meal together and eat with without be crowded. The showers were fantastic and enough towels for everyone. Having the laundry room was a bonus as with having 4 small children and going on long walks they would often get muddy. The pool table was great entertainment for all! We had a wonderful time and felt spoilt here. Would return in a heartbeat. The location of the chapel was beautiful and very picturesque. A great time had by all and will definitely return to chapel soar at a later date.

There was everything we needed to cook meals including a traditional Xmas dinner eaten in a beautiful spacious warm and cosy dining room. It was nice for all to relax with plenty of room in comfortable lounge, watch TV or play pool which the adults really enjoyed. Having some mobility issues I was so pleased to be able to walk up short distance from the cottage and view the beautiful surrounding scenery. Having a 2yr old It would have helped us to have options for use of a travel cot or child bed in the master suite and use of a high chair, also additional option of Xmas Tree for those special family gatherings. Although not used to driving up steep lanes it was a bit scary but as stated there were some places to pull over if needed. We would definitely stay again - so beautiful. Thank you for the welcome pack - it was appreciated. Thank you Cathy

Thank you for your comments. The pool table is a new addition and we are pleased you enjoyed using it. We will be also adding a high chair, extra mirrors, more floor lamps, antique drawers and other items to further enhance the enjoyment of Capel Soar. We hope you stay again soon. Property Owner

It was quiet and while the broadband was good it was also nice that mobile phones didn't work inside the property. While the cottage was clean it could do with a little TLC in the bathrooms, particularly around the shower. There was an ongoing issue that was under repair when we visited and we understood that, the maintenance team were polite and very reasonable. As many others have mentioned it's up a steep hill but that is part of the beauty, it's very quiet, dark and peaceful. Lovely location and great stay. Thanks

  • "We loved the converted chapel!"

This place is a little gem, up a very narrow, steep lane you are rewarded with a beautiful & peaceful location, a place to relax in the sunshine with a coffee or wine! The chapel is freshly decorated to a high standard, the kitchen is well equipped, we could have easily cooked up a banquet. The rooms are large and comfortable & very comfortable beds, (maybe an addition of a dressing table would be useful in the bedrooms). The bathrooms are modern, all with walk in showers, & the main bathroom also had a large bath. The lounge was spacious & had a wood burning stove for cooler nights, french doors opened onto the patio which was a great place to sit. The dining room is huge, just opposite the kitchen. There is a utility room equipped with washing machine & dryer. Ample car parking for guests at the chapel. Just beware there is no mobile phone signal at the cottage but we discovered that a short walk down the lane the signal returned; there is fast Broadband in the chapel. Defiantly a wonderful place to stay & we look forward to a return visit sometime in the future.

We are pleased you enjoyed the Chapel. Thank you for your comments, we really appreciate your feedback. We note your point about a dressing table and will be rectifying that as soon as possible, along with other items to increase the enjoyment of the property and it's superb location. There is an intermittent mobile phone signal but even then it is weak due to the rural and lofty position. However, as you stated, there is superfast broadband and if you switch "wi-fi calling" on your phone you will have a strong clear reception whilst in or just outside the property. We look forward to welcoming you back to Capel Soar in the future Property Owner

  • "Over the years we have stayed in quite a number of cottages & feel Capel Soar did not meet our expectations."

On arrival the living room rug and under the chairs/sofas looked like they hadn't been cleaned properly as there was a lot of dirt & fluff. The main bathroom and double bedroom doors wouldn't open/close without using force. The shower mats are dangerous as they are not rubber backed so slip very easily on the floor. The shower tray in the main bathroom is quite a step which makes getting out of the shower difficult. Whilst getting out of the shower in the main bathroom on the second night one of our party slipped on the mat whilst climbing out of the shower and cut their shin on the metal runner of the shower door. This resulted in a very nasty cut which we nearly had to visit a hospital/doctors for, luckily we had a first aid kit and were able to stop the bleeding. Three hand towels between eight people is totally inadequate and the size of the bath towels are tiny. One of the heated towel rails in the main bathroom didn't work. The en-suite shower was not very powerful and the shower tray itself was slow draining and filled with water. The downstairs shower room had had a leak which the cleaner did organise a plumber to sort but this left the skirting board hanging off and smelling of damp. Although the bedrooms were of a good size the lack of a dressing table, mirror and chest of drawers was an issue especially in the King size & double bedrooms. Great you'd left a sweeping brush but where was the dust pan? An airer would have helped for those items which aren't suitable to tumble dry. Only one bin liner? Roof gutter leaking above front door porch. Having paid over £2000 for one week we've come away feeling disappointed and will certainly not be visiting Capel Soar again. It also makes we question Sykes property descriptions.

Whilst we are always happy to receive guest comments to help us improve the experience of the stay at Capel Soar, we must respond to what we feel is incorrect. Capel Soar is a new venture for us and after extensive refurbishment and decoration throughout we have welcomed guests from June this year. We have had excellent reviews for cleanliness and the owner of the management company hoovered that area mentioned herself. I have every faith in Mynydd Cleaning who I have found to be honest and true. We note no other area was highlighted as an issue, suggesting a good standard of cleanliness everywhere else. All the doors are new and have obviously swollen slightly. No one previously had mentioned this so it must be a recent problem. We always remedy any reported problem as soon as possible. The shower mats are non slip and we have received no negative comments previously. There are eleven hand towels for guest use, not three. One for each guest is placed on the beds and one in each bathroom. The bath towels are standard bath towel size – what more can we say. One of the heated towel rails is electric and may have been switched off by a previous guest. The en-suite shower is electric and whilst not as powerful as the main shower which is on the mains hot water system, it is the most powerful electric shower available. We do not claim it to be a power shower. It is correct we had a leak with the downstairs shower. Not only did we not want to disturb you during your stay, but we cannot repair and redecorate until the skirting and plasterboard have dried out. We will remedy this at the earliest opportunity. The bedroom furniture has drawers and our furnishings were considered by Sykes as more than adequate. The dust pan should have been there. It is easily replaced. There was one bin liner in the bin, one in the cupboard and a roll in the drawer. We cannot comment on the porch roof guttering leaking until we visit when raining. The guttering has been replaced and is only four months old. We will check this for leaks. It is a valid point regarding the clothes airer and we will be supplying one. Regarding the price, this was set by Sykes for this size of property that accommodates eight people. This equates to less than £36 per person per night. Property Owner

Stunning views and lovely empty beaches, especially further north at Barmouth where the tide comes in closer than further south where most people congregate. Train rides on the only rainy day, amongst very proud and friendly train staff. Sympathetic renovation and mix of modern and traditional furnishings at Capel Soar. Beds very comfortable and lovely light duvets. Capel Soar could have benefitted from having an airer to dry clothes and wet suits. A shame someone had already burnt the work surface to the left of the sink, and the oven floor had burn marks. The lane to the accommodation is narrow in places, but we had no problem as there are pull ins. An electric assist bike was an asset to get us up the hill for us oldies, but as you would expect, the younger ones made it on pure pedal power.

    Beautiful place though. Thank you.

Thank you for rating Capel Soar at the highest level for cleanliness, comfort and facilities. We are pleased you commented that you loved it and it was a beautiful place. The road from the estuary to the Chapel rises almost all of the 0.4 mile. This is what gives the incredible views from the Chapel. There are some places where it is single track but there are also many areas that accommodate two vehicles and plenty of passing places. Tractors with trailers and a large bin lorry use this road. I understand the stone walls can give an impression of it being narrower, but it is in the rural Snowdonia National Park where there are hills and some slightly narrower parts along the roads. I thank you again for your positive feedback and hope you will stay at Capel Soar again. Property Owner
