The hut exceeded our expectations, from the peaceful surroundings, views and detail included within our stay. We were given everything we needed. We also thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub after a long walk or trip to the local towns. The weather was beautiful which was an added bonus to watch the sun set and the stars in the night, surrounded by the farm animals (which we loved) I couldn’t recommended enough as we didn’t want to leave and can’t wait to come back!

  • "Beautiful hut with beautiful surroundings."

A truly lovely and relaxing weekend. The only downfall was the comfort of the mattress, we felt like we sank into it and were lying on the wood so didn't get the best of sleeps. But apart from that it was the most amazing weekend away and would recommend to anyone, especially for a romantic getaway. My boyfriend proposed to me on the first night and it was just the most beautiful proposal spot with a lifetime of memories to go with it.

  • "The Shepard’s hut was amazing and the second time I had visited , absolutely no issues with the accommodation or the owners."

The issue was with Sykes and the handling of our booking. We were due to rent both Shepard’s hut for a family break and Sykes messed up the final payment on the second hut and proceeded to cancel the booking without phoning to notify me, resulting in the second hut been rented out again to someone else. Their explanation was that they only send and email if cancelling a booking, this email went to junk inbox so was never received. This spoilt out family holiday. The owners knew nothing about it and it was purely Sykes mistake.

  • "This hut was immaculately clean, well equipped and in a wonderfully secluded location."

Although compact, it had everything we needed for our stay and felt surprisingly spacious given the size of the space! The hot tub was an additional bonus and it was lovely coming back to relax there after days exploring the local countryside - we were even fortunate enough to have a couple of clear nights, where the views of the stars were breathtaking! The location of the hut is secluded and quiet but close enough to many attractions. We were able to visit the Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia National Park with ease. Aberystwyth is only a short drive away, making it ideal for picking up any essential items. The hosts were fantastic. They were very friendly, regularly communicated with us to offer important information and the welcome pack was a thoughtful touch! Despite feeling slightly anxious because of Covid-19, the hut was tidy throughout and there were additional measures in place (such as sanitising stations around the land) to help us feel extra safe throughout our stay! We really could not have asked for a better week away and can't wait to return in the future!

The hut itself was warm and surprisingly spacious, the bed was comfortable and the kitchen had everything you needed. The bathroom was small but again, you didn’t need anything extra. The hosts were so helpful and made you feel like you could ask for anything. The surrounding area was beautiful to go for walks and you’re only a 35 minute drive away from Aberystwyth. • "Really exceeded expectations."

Very posh camping. Lovely facilities. We spent most of our time outside at table or hot tub. Birds and stars in abundance. The decor was so pretty. The only reason I didn't give it top marks for comfort was because the bed needed to be against the wall, necessitating crawling into bed, with some difficulty if one has bad knees!!! We were aware of this from the pictures before our visit so it didn't deter us from booking a short break. Loved our stay. Owners were helpful and unobtrusive and left a very useful box of treats. Two local pubs, the Black Lion, painted bright red, was traditional and cosy, about a mile and a half away. We particularly wanted to visit the red kite feeding on route to Aberystwyth. Had a peaceful and refreshing break. Thank you everyone.

  • "Wow! Wow!"

Wow! Cwt Caron absolutely blew us away and was even better than we had anticipated. It is tucked away on the owner’s farm with 360 degrees of beautiful views... not overlooked in the slightest. The directions were perfect and the access is off road but maintained well, so our Honda Covic managed without issue. We had a very warm welcome from Manon who briefly showed us around, and even left a small hamper too, before leaving us to uninterrupted privacy. The hot tub was also maintained really well (every other day) and we were even given forewarning before Dorian visited - a first for us and hugely appreciated (no one wants to be sat in a hot tub with a stranger testing the water). Shepherds Hut itself is beautifully presented and immaculately maintained; it truly felt like a home away from home. There are countryside walks literally on the doorstep, which would be ideal for anyone who also enjoys cycling, and we particularly enjoyed the riverside walk across Cors Caron (a nature reserve just a short stroll away). At the end of a long walk, you have a small wood burner to get cosy and warm back up before a trip to the hot tub, with stunning starry skies on clear nights. We honestly couldn’t recommend Cwt Carom enough - we loved it so much we rebooked for summer during our stay!!

Manon and Dorian were very helpful, with Manon leading us personally to the Hut's exact location when we arrived later than anticipated and it was getting dark. Cwt Caron's location is absolutely stunning; there are panoramic views across working farmland, the nature reserve Cors Caron on your doorstep - all in all a beautiful little gem. We wanted a quiet, peaceful break and that is exactly what we got. On arrival, we had the most generous welcome pack from Manon and Dorian which included Welsh cakes, Welsh beer, eggs, local ketchup, etc. The Hut is furnished to a very high specification with the comfort of guests a priority. It was a privilege to experience this sense of well being and utter peace in such a breathtaking setting. When we had a little drama of our own making, Manon was so kind and understanding it was a truly humbling experience. Our newly rescued dog who was never socialised as a puppy, thoroughly enjoyed his walks along the old railway walk which is a couple of minutes away from Cwt Caron. Thoughtful touches provided for him included a bed, feeding bowls and a chewy treat. There is a hot tub next to the Hut which we didn't get chance to use unfortunately as well as a fire pit; plus a wood burner inside. We would highly recommend a visit to Cwt Caron - the location is gorgeous. A big thank you to Manon and Dorian for their hospitality and generosity. Kind regards Gayna and Simon

About the location

PONTRHYDFENDIGAID

Tregaron 5.5 miles; Devil’s Bridge 9 miles; Aberystwyth 16 miles.

Pontrhydfendigaid is a small village in Mid Wales between Devil’s Bridge and Tregaron. The village lies on the edge of the Cambrian Mountains in beautiful countryside. It sits on the River Teifi and his home to a local shop and two nearby pubs, the Red Lion and the Black Lion. Devil's Bridge has been a tourist attraction for centuries and was celebrated by author George Borrow who wrote Wild Wales in 1854. This famous bridge spans the Mynach, a tributary of the River Rheidol and is unique as it is actually three bridges in one, the original built around 1100, the second above this in 1753 and the third in 1903. The bridge is at a point where the River Mynach drops 90 metres (300 ft) in 5 steps down a steep and narrow ravine before it meets the River Rheidol. The set of stone steps leading down to the lowest bridge at the waterfall are known as Jacob's Ladder. The attraction offers viewing points and after the steep walk there is a hotel and cafe for refreshments. This whole area boasts stunning scenery and wildlife and is renowned for walking, cycling, fishing and bird watching as well as trips to the beautiful Cardigan Bay coastline with its wild cliffs and sandy beaches.
