  • "What a great property."

We came for Christmas with 5 adults, 2 children and a dog. Lovely welcome on the kitchen table of a fantastic Christmas cake and bottle of wine - thank you. House was a great size with so much space - the room off the living room was fantastic for all our coats, waterproofs and boots etc. bedrooms were good sizes and fire in the living room lovely and cosy. Great spot overlooking the bay, had some lovely walks and visited some nice pubs in town - a great time had by all - thank you.

  • "The house was everything we hoped for and so well equipped we wanted for nothing."

The board games and cards meant we managed to leave the TV switched off and with the fire lit it made for entertaining evenings in. The position of the home with the sound of the sea and its views across the bay from every room were amazing. A short walk down to the town or beach made it ideal for the older kids in our group to venture out on their own whilst some slightly more strenuous walks up gave you some fabulous views across to snowdonia and up and down the welsh coast. We found plenty of things to do in and around Barmouth - along with swimming in the sea and lazing on the beach we visited the fun fair, did a little shopping, went pony trekking and played pitch and putt (fairbourne) and ate a lot of ice cream - all in all we had a great time and would not hesitate to recommend a vist to the fabulous home in an idyllic setting in a beautiful part wales

  • "We loved the position of this cottage up on the rock with views over the sea and harbour."

Nice and close to the beach and town shops etc. The space and room configuration were just right for our families with 5 little ones. Decor and furnishings were great blend of authentically old and tasteful modern. The cottage was kitted out with everything we needed. The separate washing and drying room was especially appreciated. Yes it was a little tricky access for unloading cars, but description was accurate and you just had to prepare.

  • "The cottage itself met my expectations."

It was clean and all the rooms were well prepared and welcoming. The views from all windows were wonderful and the owners thought of everything that may be needed for adults and children during their stay in the cottage for sunny and rainy days. The only draw back were the steps leading from the Main Street to the cottage. The way the cottage was marketed did not give in my view very accurate description of the distance between cottage and the Main Street, the proximity between temporary parking on the street and the cottage itself and the angle of the steps leading from the street to the cottage. From the description it looked simple and not at all problematic. In reality, unfortunately, it was problematic when unloading and loading the cars at the start and at the end of our stay. The number of trips needed to do these necessary tasks left us all out of breath and very tired. For the oldest member of our party, person 80+ the steps were unsafe to use without an escort , especially when they were wet, which was most days.

The house was gorgeous with views that took our breath away. So much thought had been put into ensuring that our stay was as comfortable as possible and the house was very well equipped. Barmouth is the prettiest town in beautiful surroundings and we had a wonderful week with hot sunny weather. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this wonderful holiday home. 10/10

  • "Lovely property."

Incredibly well equipped. We weren't missing out on anything. The cleaner's couldn't locate the key for the out house and the owner's son came round to deliver this the following morning. We hadn't needed it in that time. The views from the property were lovely and the location was great. The warning about the steps is helpful even though we had no issues. Pointing out where to park to unload luggage was very useful. The skylights in the bedrooms on the top floor are quite hard to open and particularly in the double room, it was very hard to open without feeling like the whole window might end up on the bed. We got it open but might just need some loosening. This is no criticism and took away nothing from the house and the whole experience.

Goronwy is a beautifully appointed house furnished with quality materials and the owner is friendly and helpful. If you are fit enough to climb a few steps up to the property I really can’t think of any reason not to book it. We loved the place and had a great time there.

  • "I have only positive things to say about the property and the owners."

They were excellent and very accommodating. I would highly recommend to other families to visit this property if it is available! We will certainly be going back in the future. The property was very clean, but the utensils needed cleaning prior to use. This is no fault of the owner mind - the dishwasher is only so good. The instructions are very clear prior to arriving and if followed are very simple! The layout is great, everything you could ask for and more is available and the location is stunning. Amazing views from all rooms within the property and suitable for all types of families.

  • "This is a beautiful cottage with so much thought and care into decor, cleanliness and items left for our use."

We managed breakfast on the decking in the sunshine in January!! But the views and peacefulness were worth it. The owners had been and lit the fire prior to our arrival to make the house cosy but unfortunately had forgotten to turn to hot water on. Between myself and other guests and a call to the owners we managed to sort this but it left us without reliable hot water for about a day and a half of our 3 day stay. The owners did let us have a later checkout and kept in touch over the weekend to check the problem was resolving. Fortunately the families that stayed did not let this ruin their weekend and would recommend this property to others.

TV remotes were difficult to fathom though.we were hoping to host a dinner party for our group on the31st unfortunately the catering company let us down because of covid. I think the chef would have struggled with a 4 course dinner for 7..... not quite enough equipment or crockery available which wasn’t in keeping with the high standard of Goronwy Cottage. Large pasta bowls and a large salad bowl would have aided our stay too.also a larger fridge would have helped, the one available wouldn’t accommodate 9 people. Thankyou for the offer of extending our stay due to our late arrival. It wasn’t needed but still, a very kind offer.we will certainly be coming back and couldn’t recommend goronwy cottage highly enough. Thankyou for a lovely stay.

Access is an issue but the steps are well worth the climb. The property was great for 2 small families and two fit grandparents. Beautiful walks up the hill to the scenic views and also down and onto the beach. A little chillier on one side of property but heaters and extra blankets etc avail so not an issue -even in Dec! Thank you for a lovely stay.

  • "We enjoyed our winter weekend at Goronwy Cottage."

The location and appearance of the property was as we expected. Room sizes and facilities were good - the lounge was delightfully cosy when the huge wood-burning stove was alight; sadly - in cold winter weather - the rest of the house never reached a comfortable temperature. We would certainly return, but not during the winter. The panoramic views from the front of the house are fabulous and if you can manage the steep access, Goronwy Cottage would be a good choice.

The views from the property and the separate terrace are stunning. Please be aware of the accessibility as the cottage is only reachable on foot up steep steps from the main road and there is very limited parking near the cottage so several trips are required to unpack and pack, this is not recommended for anybody with mobility issues. Having a living area where we could congregate before going out and for those who stay up late not being restricted to bed times of others. Very clean place, comfortable beds and plenty of space for the 6 of us. Could have easily accommodated more with no restrictions. • "The Goronwy cottage is very close to all amenities in Barmouth including the beach."

It is everything you would wish for in a holiday accommodation, furnished not as a holiday let but as somebody's welcoming home. Very comfortable, light, airy and cosy. in addition to all the lovely living and sleeping spaces, there s a drying room which we found very useful. The drawback - the steps up to get to the cottage, are well worth the effort for the reward. The porch and deck, from which to capture some amazing sunsets, complete the outstanding accommodation Goronwy cottage offers. We have booked with Sykes Cottages several times over the years and never been disappointed, in fact usually, as above, our expectations are exceeded.

The result was a very speedy delivery of a few minor things - spare lightbulbs, a new single cup cafetiere (there already were two good large ones!) and a new shower head for one of the four showers. This level of service and interest went well beyond what I have experienced before. On top of this, the cottage is really lovely, being comfortable, well furnished, with excellent facilities and with an exceptional view out over Barmouth and the sea. A gem of a place.

The terrace is a lovely place to sit with a glass of wine and watch the sunset . The cottage is very comfortable , very tasteful and very well equipped and we felt completely at home there. One of the best holiday cottages we have ever rented. Definitely not for anyone with mobility problems - the steps up to the cottage are many and steep! But a price worth paying for those fantastic views! Thanks to the owners for going the extra mile to make Goronwy cottage such a delightful place to stay.
