  • "My partner and I stayed at Hillside View from 23rd - 26th November when the temperature hit -2°, but when we arrived the heating was on and the lodge was lovely and warm for us."

The hot tub was the perfect addition in the cold weather, perfect for relaxing. The lodge itself was spacious, there was plenty of space in the kitchen, the bathroom was a great size with separate shower and bath, and plenty of hanging space for clothes. The only thing that was missing was a full length mirror! The view from the lodge in the morning was simply breath taking, and we discovered a bench at the top of the hill behind the lodge that provided even more incredible views. Our sat nav took us through the village roads on the way there, however, on the way back we discovered that we could have taken all A roads to the location, apart from the road leading up to the site, so if you are travelling here, make sure to check the route before travelling! The location was peaceful and quiet, and we even had 4 cats visit us who were super friendly (which was great as we are cat lovers)! There is a local Co-op down the road and Tesco about 15 minutes away, so there are great facilities close by for anything you need. We were looking for a relaxing weekend break and that is exactly what we got. We had a great stay, and whether you are a couple or a family, we highly recommend staying here.

Could you provide a tray, there can be six people staying and carrying glasses/ cups out to the balcony is a chore.

Thanks for your effective feedback, we will certainly take this on board. The road has been improved now. Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our stay."

Yes the lodge is a looking a little tired but it was just what we needed. It was immaculately clean. And had all the equipment needed in the kitchen. There were plenty of towels however I would recommend taking spares for the hot tub. We stayed in lodge 9 which was perfect with a dog as the garden was fairly enclosed. There is a dog gate on the balcony which was perfect for leaving the doors open so our cocker spaniel didn’t go walk about. The hot tub was perfect and even better it has a roof so you don’t have to worry about the rain. The hot tub lid had seen better days but it did the job. All in all I would definitely revisit this little gem.

The mattresses need updating as us and our children could feel the springs but they were ok with an extra blanket added underneath. The hot tub water didn't look as clean as it could have but we were happy overall and would stay/book with these people again.

Thank you for your feedback, we will make sure the mattress is updated. In regards to the hot tub water, you should have let us know and we would've sorted for you. Thank you Property Owner

  • "There are about 14 lodges on this site, and over the last 15 years when it opened with the first four we have stayed in almost all of them."

This is the third owner ( You now never meet anyone on the site from the minute you arrive to leaving, picking up a key off a desk) and the point I want to make is the lodges and site are really now tired. Three examples, the curtains are original and numerous examples of not hanging/closing correctly. Lid on hot tub completely off its hinges almost impossible to remove. Bed mattresses are sub standard. Numerous doors do not close correctly. I could go on but the point is that the lodges are so tired they are now not value for money. There is a lot more competition in the area and judging by the number that were vacant the repeat business has declined. We love the area but will not be returning to this site.

Truly sorry that you feel this way about the site. You pick up the keys in reception so that you don't meet anyone for Covid reasons. If there was a problem somebody would come to see you. This is how we've done it since Covid and we've had no complaints. Sorry if this was an inconvenience for yourselves. The hot tub lids are being used several times a day and some people choose not to respect them hence the issue you were having with the lid. Once they are impossible to move we obviously change them and has been done now. The site is always busy. Thanks for your feedback and we will take into consideration. Property Owner

That good we want to try and make it a yearly thing. Only downside i would say, and it's hard to find one, is that if your booking, and it's a while away, you should be able to pay a smaller deposit as you have longer to pay the holiday off.
