This is the best equipt house/cottage we have rented from Sykes, Attention to some minor detail would improve the property even more, ( curtains in the lounge need attention when opening and closing)

There are lovely views at the front and an enormous lounge with 5 double sofas! Adrian the owner is very friendly and responds quickly to queries. We (8 of us including our grandchildren) had a wonderful time and I thoroughly recommend Lane House.

  • "6 of us Ladies recently enjoyed staying from 11th to 15th Sept."

The Lane itself to access the House is pretty tight and requires a little manoeuvring to get onto the driveway, which is adequate for 2/3 vehicles. Entrance into Porch has no key, which was a ‘red flag’ to us. Porch roof was leaking quite badly. Owner was due to get it fixed. As previous reviews, trip hazard with large rug in Dining Room. Facilities good, but property requires TLC. Not many Pubs or Shops open whilst we were there. Three Tuns well worth a visit. A good time was had by all

The bedrooms are of a good standard and the 3 bathrooms are all recently refurbished. the kitchen is well equipped and the lounge very comfortable. You can sit outside in a sun trap as a morning bonus. The owner is very friendly and helpful and is a mine of information about Bishops Castle and surrounding area. There is so much to do especially if you like walking, but this is also a lively town with lots of pubs and eating places. The house is perfect for a large group or family …we were a walking group and had a great time on Long Mynd, Stipertones and Cear Caradoc. There are walks all round the area for all abilities. We absolutely loved it and would highly recommend this house for a holiday.

We loved the views from the big windows and the bird watching into the valley. The kitchen and dining room worked well, only a large casserole dish was missing for us; we lined a big oven tray instead. Lovely and warm. The number of bathrooms was great with lots of singles. A few of the doors would welcome a drop of oil, so that night time loo visits didn't waken others. A friendly visit from Adrian, together with lots to do during the festival, and a walk on the Sunday made for a wonderful weekend. All my party said they would like to return again.

Great location- literally round the corner from the high street. Extremely well equipped, with all the utensils and crockery that you're likely to need. The 3 bathrooms are recently refurbished and most of the house is warm and cosy, helped by the well fuelled woodburner. The only exception is the hallway and downstairs bedrooms, that are quite chilly. The piano was a great hit with us, as we have a couple of musicians in the family. I hope we didn't disturb the neighbours too much! We felt that the curtains and carpets could do with replacing, hence the reason for not giving top marks. The rugs in the dining area in particular, are a trip hazard. But we had a great weekend and want to say many thanks to Adrian the owner, who was very friendly and unobtrusive. Lane House is a delight!

  • "This property was outstanding and the pictures on the website really don’t do this house justice."

We stayed the weekend as a surprise family get away for my other half and we all had the best time so much so everyone wants to return. The only criticism I would give is that being we booked for the winter time is the darker evenings draw in early and not being able to book in till 5 gave us a challenge, as it was dark and unloading three cars in the dark with only one small light outside the property which is not bright made it difficult to walk the small path to the house from parking. Maybe an earlier time for getting in is required in darker days or more lights. The owners son came and seen us as we arrived and was very friendly and ready to help with information but as we were visiting family in bishops castle and been here many times we saved him. House is lovely, plenty of space and everything you need in the kitchen even double of most things. Rooms were tidy and beds very comfy. Can imagine in the warmer sunny days the garden will be beautiful to use.

Friendly owner right next door. It is down a very narrow lane which makes it hard when exiting the parking area, though there is room to park 3 cars. We were given permission to pick apples, figs and whatever else we could find so there were some in my party who were made up with this and we had Apple crumble to celebrate our trip away and the success of it. All in all, we felt extremely welcomed and if the owner was to update the decor, he could really charge a considerable amount for the place as it is a little gem. with regards to the surrounding areas, it was a struggle to find children friendly activities and walls but the discovery centre and the advice of the owner helped is wile away the time.

The Montgomery castle and the river at New Town Park were brilliant trips out and a trip to Clun castle and river all recommended by Adrian were perfect for our family. Would recommend staying here.
