  • "Lovely house, very clean, beds were super comfy and location was perfect."

Plenty to explore in the area and owner was easily contactable when needed. I would definitely stay here again! Only thing that threw me off guard was that there was no washing machine as I hadn't planned for it but that was my own fault!

Squeaky stairs slight issue at night. Night lights very useful. A veg knife and large scissors would complete it. Good location to visit places and Bishop's Castle nice quirky town with independent shops. Would definitely return.

Thank you Beverley I appreciate your comments. I will be getting the scissors and veg knife and im glad you point these things out to me otherwise I don't know. Hope to see you again in the future Property Owner

  • "I highly recommend The Cosy Retreat."

The property is extremely clean and well cared for inside and outside. The garden is enclosed by fencing to the rear and a lovely neat mature hedge to the front. We have a dog so the secure garden was important. There is one car parking space to the drive inside the driveway gates this was good to have when unpacking the car. There is further parking to the front of the property in a communal parking bay we found there was always space there during our stay. The house is a good size not obvious from photos. Everything very clean, windows, patio and patio furniture, neatly tended garden, fridge, oven cookware all super clean. There were two beautiful hanging baskets to either side of the front door and these to my mind reflected the high standard of care and pride the owner gives within the property. The beds are very comfortable and the bed linen and towels very clean high standard white style. We particularly appreciated that the sitting room and bedrooms rooms were carpeted and cosy for us and the kitchen, dining room and rear entrance room had practical hard flooring ideal for pets. The only bathroom/toilet of the property is downstairs and is a wet room style with shower and a small hand basin. My partner did remark on this arrangement during the night, but not a huge issue for us. I would highly recommend the area in general being on the Welsh border with so many beautiful places to visit and plenty of enjoyable walking in particular exploring Offa’s Dyke and The Ridgeway. The nearby town of Montgomery both the town and castle plus ”Bunners” the unique hardware store are well worth a visit. Also, Lake Vyrwy and Lake Vyrwy Hotel are highly recommended. Bishops Castle has good eateries and characterful unique shops it’s a pleasure to spend time musing around and unwinding in “BC”. Some shops and cafes in BC are closed Monday and Wednesday so do check opening hours so as not to be disappointed. I would not hesitate to stay at The Cosy Retreat again.

Thank you so much for your lovely review I'm very pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

Ample safe parking, well equipped, all we needed. the 'welcome pack' of cake and milk etc. a nice touch. Overall an excellent cottage, quietly situated but within an easy walk of local shops. We would definitely consider booking again.

  • "Really well equipped property with a small garden and driveway parking."

Clean and comfortable holiday home in an ideal setting within a few minutes walk of the centre of Bishops Castle. There is a park with children's playground nearby and footpaths leading into the surrounding countryside. Bishops Castle has interesting little shops, good cafes and pubs and two small supermarkets. It is also an ideal centre from which to explore further afield in Shropshire and the Welsh Borders. I can't wait to return to The Cosy Retreat.

  • "This was a lovely holiday property situated in a very interesting little border town that had lots of facilities."

The property itself had everything that we needed, and the beds were very comfy! Many thanks to Helen, the owner, for providing this, and for being on hand should we need anything. The weather was not great all of the time we were there, but there is plenty of room to relax in the cottage, and it's just a few minutes walk to the shops.

  • "We were pleasantly surprised by the quietness of the immediate locality."

The property owner is very helpful and open to suggestions for minor changes. The beds were wonderfully comfortable and we slept very well. The only downside was no washing machine and also very restricted drying space, the latter could be easily improved. There are numerous country walks from the house and also further afield. We dined twice at the Castle Hotel which allows dogs in some dining areas. We also enjoyed the food at Three Tuns pub. For lighter meals and snacks, the Postcard Cafe at nearby Clun is a gem not to be missed. A trip to the Space Centre near Knighton would be good, but being in Wales, it was not open to visitors in Sept 2021. We enjoyed the dark night skies in Shropshire with the Milky Way clearly visible. Thank you, Helen, we hope to return to The Cosy Retreat.

  • "The house was more spacious than it appeared in the photo's with even a little separate area by the back door for the dog's bowl's etc."

The garden was secure for our lively Labradoodle and though we were there in summer, the heating was easy to operate for those chillier days. The outdoor plug was a fantastic bonus as our car is electric. Our host was very kind, leaving some lovely treats on our arrival and making sure we had everything we needed for our stay. A small downside was that the only loo was downstairs meaning that if you needed the loo in the night (that would be me then!) you had to make your way down the creaky stairs trying not to wake the whole house up!! However, though the stairs seem loud, apparently no-one was disturbed and all was well. The boiler is a bit of an eyesore in the dining area and takes up a bit of space, but again nothing massive. There is a grass area to one side of the drive which my boys and the dog loved and a table and chairs around the back to use on warm days, or warm evenings with the lovely lighting. There aren't any really good views from the house but you don't have to walk far at all to get to beautiful wooded walks and gorgeous views. All in all, a very good experience.
