  • "We had a lovely stay for a week at Garden Cottage."

The property was well furnished and big enough to house our party of 8. The grounds were stunning - perfect for morning dog walks and evenings around the firepit. Wendy was a very friendly and welcoming host, and the property had pretty much everything we needed. It was close to good walks and some beautiful towns. Montgomery is well worth a visit. If I was to offer any advice it would be to have a few more larger pans, as there were only 2 big enough for 8 people, and also to provide some sharper knives or a knife sharpener. Otherwise we couldn't have asked for a nicer stay.

We were celebrating a special birthday so had a swanky dinner party and found absolutely everything we needed in the superbly equipped kitchen. There’s nothing says ‘celebrate’ like champagne in the hot tub under the stars. Add to that luxury the water lilies flowering in the pond, the chickens, the Guinea fowl(!) , the owls and the beautiful walks from the door and you have the recipe for a perfect holiday whatever the time of year. Thank you Wendy, for an absolutely fabulous time.

  • "We really enjoyed our week in the Garden Cottage in early September, the property is very well appointed and has everything you could need, only thing missing is a washing machine but that was no big issue for us."

The location is ideal for cycling or hiking in the local area, equally there are plenty of castles and NT places to visit - so plenty to keep you busy. There are a number of walks that start/finish at the property, or from a car park about a mile up the road. The countryside is truly stunning and if you head to the Kerry Ridgeway you can see for miles in all directions. The property is nice and rural which means it's really dark at night, ideal for sitting in the hot-tub for a spot of star gazing while listening to the owls calling to each other, and watching the bats swoop around above you. The living area is open and comfy, great for slouching around the wood burner in the chilly evenings. Kitchen area had everything you could need including a range cooker and large dining room table to spend time with the family over dinner. The bedrooms are comfortable and all had an attached shower and toilet, all bedclothes were clean and fresh and the beds were comfortable. The property is old and full of character, lots of exposed wood and some lovely touches from the original building that have been retained when it was converted. The host Wendy and her son Harvey couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful, extremely friendly and on hand when we needed them. Highly recommend a stay at the Garden Cottage - we will certainly be going back.

The owner was very helpful, she left us to it but was available if we did need anything. The whole family enjoyed the hot tub which was big enough for us all and fishing on the ponds are fantastic everyone caught a fish. At night we went into the woods told ghost stories and roasted marshmallows. It was lovely seeing the ducks and chickens walking around. We took a day trip to Aberdovey and the beach was lovely about 1hr15 drive and also The Naissance Experience at Glansevern Hall Gardens was a lovely place to visit it was free and only about 15 minutes drive. We will definitely come back as a family, we didn’t need to go out everyday as you could just spend the day here enjoying the farm. We have a younger child and teenagers and it suited us all. Thank you for a lovely break.

  • "This was the absolute worst experience i have ever had!"

The lady who owned the cottage was extremely rude. We arrived at the cottage and it was very cold. When calling her up so she cant turn the heating on she told us that they had turned the heating off and there were set times it goes on and off. She was so rude over then phone and in person every time she came to visit. Ruined our whole experience with her shouting and rude behaviour when all we wanted was to be warm at the cottage as it was freezing! Absolutely would not recommend!!!

You arrived at my cottage very late,I had a phone call from you at 1:30am Saturday morning very rude saying the heating wasn’t on. I came to your cottage in the early hours to help you only to be met by 14 of you in a cottage that sleeps 9. You were very rude and then talking in your own language in front of me so i didn’t know what you were saying to which I found very intimidating. I sorted heating to which it hadn’t been turned off and some of you saying you were not cold. You were asked to leave in the morning as clearly broken contract. You arrived at my door the next morning very apologetic and asking to stay to which I relented and you were told to look after property and respect other guests. A very big mistake on my part. On your departure morning you refused to leave my cottage and i needed the assistance of Sykes to get you out, whilst you were vacating the property I entered and was absolutely appalled at the state of my cottage, just disgusting, food all over the floor and furniture , broken staircase and coat stand. The cottage obviously wasn’t freezing as you had turned radiators off and not used the logs left for you. A very disappointed property owner. Property Owner

We were made very welcome by Wendy, who provided us with lots of useful information regarding local walks, shops, pubs etc. (plus how to lay a fire) The range of cutlery, crockery, pots and pans was good and plentiful, making it easy to cook and serve Xmas dinner for 8 of us. We didn’t want for anything. The creaking stairs and floorboards are to be expected in such an old building, however, this meant that the dogs struggled to settle at times. There also appeared to be little or no soundproofing which meant conversations and TV could be heard by anyone who went to bed early, so it might be useful to pack some earplugs. I only mention these things so people can be aware of them, but none of this spoiled our stay. We would have no hesitation in booking again as we have all had a fabulous time.

It is a good size for a big group and there is the added bonus of each bedroom being en-suite. The owners were very friendly & helpful & their land is lovely to walk around. The hot tub is a great bonus A few things to be aware of (as is a Grade II listed building): -some of the bedrooms got quite cold during the night -the floorboards & stairs are very creaky- not good for any light sleepers in your party -stagger showers otherwise somebody will get a cold shower! -one bedroom is only accessible through separate external door or by walking through ground floor bedroom

3 of the party developed a rash, doctor believes this to be from the hot tub. Master room double bed made so much noise when trying to get comfortable, floor boards in that room are also very noisy (as most are lose) waking the kids in the room below. Won’t be going back

Thank you for your feedback. I can confirm that the hot tub is cleaned and checked in time for every guest's stay. The floor boards are not loose but may creak like many boarded floors. Once the bedding is laundered, it is delivered to the cottage in plastic and there was no evidence of a maggot in the property. Based on your written comments in the visitors book and the positive comments you gave to the owner during your stay, it is disappointing to learn that you would not wish to return in the future. The owner would have gladly addressed any issues you had during your stay, had she been made aware, and was surprised to read the negative comments you have made in your review after your stay. The cottage is beautiful and located in such a lovely peaceful area, with a kitchen that has everything you need ( have stayed in places previously where there is literally one cup, plate, glass etc per person but the cupboards are so well stocked). We had great weather so were able to enjoy the garden and especially the jacuzzi. The only improvement would be some outside lighting as it got too dark to sit outside as the evening went on. The ground floor room is a great bonus for anyone with mobility problems like my son. All the bedrooms were really comfortable. About the location

KERRY

Newtown 3 miles; Montgomery 12 miles; Bishops Castle 15 miles.

Kerry is a small village which nestles in the lovely Vale of Kerry, centrally located in Mid Wales and close to the borders with Shropshire. This wonderfully scenic region is known as The Marches and is steeped in history. There is a village shop, two pubs, one with a restaurant, and the area is best known as a popular destination for walkers and mountain bikers because of the Kerry Ridgeway; a gentle 15 mile route through the hills providing remarkable views in all directions (up to 70 miles on clear days)! Discover Montgomery and Powis Castles, the medieval towns of Bishops Castle, Ludlow, Shrewsbury and Machynlleth, and Snowdonia and Brecon Beacons National Parks. With easy access to Offa’s Dyke, many beautiful gardens to visit, steam railways and the coast about an hour’s drive away, this location is a real gem!
