  • "We had a wonderful stay at Woodside Cottage."

Everything was exactly as described. Wendy and her son were the perfect hosts and were always on hand for any questions or queries. The only thing we did miss and may be a possible option for the future is a smart TV, other than that we couldn’t fault our stay. Our children loved the hot tub and visiting the different animals and of course feeding the ducks! Thank you for a fantastic stay!

  • "On arrival the site is lovely, and you’ll be welcomed by the large flock of hens following you which is quite entertaining."

On entrance to the cottage the smell of damp was overpowering (whilst I understand it’s an old cottage) it was a strong odour that was there throughout our stay. The cottage had everything we needed, was very well cleaned, and the main bed was very comfortable. The shower is nice and strong too. The heating worked well and we were nice and toasty, and it has everything you’ll need for a few days stay. Some added points to improve slightly (and to improve price points) would be to use more luxurious hand soaps (not just Lidl own), perhaps provide soaps/body wash etc, ensure there is enough amount of washing up liquid etc, thicker larger towels, and perhaps robes, especially for those walking up to the hot tub. The one major issue we had was both TV and WIFI. The TV (not unusual for a rural site) received poor signal so was tricky to watch everything, and we were quite surprised to find the very racist film “blazing saddles” amongst the collection of DVDs. We always take a Google chrome cast so we can cast programmes from our iPad, however with the poor wifi connection it wouldn’t work, so perhaps an upgrade to smart TVs (especially as so many people want to settle in to watch Netflix etc) or wifi per Cottage rather than jumping on to the main farm house wifi. The hot tub was lovely, it is a short walk up some steps and a small hill, although walking in your shorts up to it with other guests around did feel a little awkward, but once in around the trees and listening to the nearby running water was bliss. The cottage was also silent, we couldn’t hear neighbours even, so if you’re after peace and quiet you’ll find it here! The hosts were lovely and informative, chocs, Welsh cakes and milk on arrival were very appreciated, and we really appreciated bringing our two dogs at no additional cost, it makes such a difference to do dog owners to be able to do this, and there were some lovely walks around nearby. Hopefully the points above won’t cause any upset, it would just take an already lovely stay “to the next level” by adding that little bit of perceived luxury, and could charge a higher price similar to others doing that type of thing. Thanks so much for the last minute chance to stay!

We are glad you enjoyed your stay and bringing your two dogs although I’m very sorry that you felt that the cottage smelt of damp, this has not been raised before as we always receive good feedback and was not raised by yourselves during your stay.I’m quite surprised at the points you have raised after speaking to you both daily and that your comments regarding the cottage and grounds were superb, if I had of been made aware of your issues we would of happily helped. It is a self catering cottage and adding the points you have mentioned will not add a higher price from Sykes cottages ,the hand soaps etc are added for your use. We do get Wi-Fi and again no issues were raised by yourselves although sykes don’t guarantee the speed. Property Owner

The cottage has everything you need, the hot tub is in a good position with nice views. An added bonus is the use of the fire pit & seating areas and ponds around the farm. Great hosts, very friendly with lots of good info on places to visit. The Kerry Lamb in the village does a good Sunday roast. We will definitely be returning again.

We also really appreciated the little extra touches that made it feel like a home from home, for example fresh flowers and Welsh cakes. The hot tub was a fab extra too. I’d recommend staying here to anyone. Great location for walks and close to Newtown and Welshpool. Thank you!!

A clean comfortable cottage in a quiet setting a great place to stay but I have few things to say firstly the time which I couldn’t get it and the falt was from me because befor go I didn’t check that in the information which was in the site , it is unfair that for check in we should be there at 5 pm and for check out at 10 am with this time we lose 1 day and we paid for nothing and we west our firs day in there without go out and enjoy the day in there , and other thing lack of basic tools such as toilet paper , kitchen rolls, shampoo, liquid. Generally, we really enjoyed in there and definitely I recommend it to stay in wood cottage to have a nice holiday

The views and the grounds were amazing and we loved waking up to them. The hot tub is based in the woods but only a short walk, my son absolutely loved this and was the first thing he asked for in the morning, the view was beautiful. The owners were lovely, Wendy left us eggs, wine and chocolate on arrival and even brought us some wood over as my son wanted to have a go toasting Marshmallows. We enjoyed a day at Barmouth beach & another day at zip world and completed a trail at swallow falls. Coming back to the cottage after a busy day was heaven and we will definitely be back. Thankyou for such a lovely stay.

  • "The property was amazing."

Character and spacious property with everything you need including towels, linens even toilet paper and basic washing liquid, soaps etc. We booked the property last minute.Wendy, the owner was lovely. We arrived at 6pm and she welcomed us with a chocolate cake, caramel bites and eggs from their chickens. We ordered take away from Baba Ali and it was great. The property was lovely, clean and warm. We went for a 4 night half term break in February 2022 with our daughter 11 and our son 14 years of age and our dog 7 months old. The hot tub was the main feature why our children wanted to come as you can imagine they are glued to their screens. The weather was not great, raining, windy, cold. Despite the weather we ended up having an amazing time. With the correct clothing it was all good. We went to the zip world the first day, 2 hours drive but lovely scenery and nature, it even got our teens to start conversation about the numerous water falls from the mountains and initiated discussion around different terrain and comparison to London etc. Zip world was amazing, highlight of our stay. On the way back we saw the swallow falls it was so good and relaxing and we had a lovely dinner at the stables hotel in Betwsy C oed which was dog friendly. The next day we went for a walk on the property grounds, amazing views, plenty of walking space. We couldn't use the open firepit and the hot tub due to the weather but that was absolutely fine. The scenery and the walks were enough to keep us entertained, children were running around and we had fun on the hills with the strong wind. Our dog was very happy. On day three we went to Barmouth beach Again amazing walk. Our children loved it and our fog too. Aldi is 20 minutes away driving distance, kitchen appliances were working great. Kitchen inventory was clean and it had everything you need in a kitchen and more. The owners live on the farm which is opposite the cottage and it was useful for whatever we needed we could just ask and it wasn't a problem. We would like to go back again with some friends and their children and definitely when the weather is a little bit nicer to enjoy the hot tub as well.

  • "Wow this place is AMAZING!"

! Me and 4 friends stayed here recently for 1 week and cannot wait to come back! The setting is spectacular and the private hot tub is lovely on the hill at night! Woodside cottage is immaculate and clean on the inside (never would have guessed it was a dog friendly place) kitchen has lots of utensils and it’s very nice to cook in. Beds are comfortable (not too soft and not too hard) pillows are nice and all of us slept well. It’s very insulated and we barely had the heating on. I especially loved how chickens and ducks walked around the farm thought our stay it added real character and we bought fresh eggs frequently for a very reasonable price. The farm also has sheep and a horse you can see which was really nice also! The cherry on the top for us was the beautiful star gazing platform and the 2 fire pits however! We loved toasting marshmallows in the evenings and really liked the more rustic fire pit under canvas in the forest. Our host Wendy was also amazing and nothing was too much for her, she made us feel very comfortable. My brother even lost his Swiss Army knife and she found it and is posting it out to us which is fantastic service!! The only reason I scored a little less for comfort was purely because it was a bit of a squeeze for all 5 of us to get on the sofa so we had to use dining room chairs! However we are 5 adults so it wasn’t unexpected. Would have also been ace to have a washing machine as we did get some clothes muddy! But again it’s nothing we couldn’t handle! Would 1000% recommend and can’t wait to come back. There’s also a Tesco close by as well as a Morrison’s for shopping (both are a short drive away) there’s also a nice Italian restaurant (La Terrazza Bistro) as well as pubs close by that do really good food! We recommend the Nags head for a good Sunday dinner!

We loved the whole site, was really peaceful. Only thing to note, make sure you turn the lights off when you go out - if not, the owners will let themselves in to do it (this happened to us when one of us was still in the property, bit of a surprise!)

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are glad you enjoyed the property and the hot tub. We are sorry for the disturbance, we do normally do a check in visit to make sure everything was okay, after noticing the lights on and no reply at the door we wanted to make sure everyone was okay.
