  • "They say pictures say a thousand words but we are unable to put any up!"

To say we were disappointed would be an understatement really. On arrival at the bungalow we were quite shocked on how rundown it looked from the outside. Walls needed painting, drives need attention (owner suggests that the weeds on the drive are from where people park their cars?) and a little gardening wouldn't go amiss!. Inside, yes it's big but very uninviting. No home feeling about it, a few cushions, curtains that fit the windows, sprucing up a little would make all the difference (owner suggested that covid is reason no soft furnishings). The back garden isn't very appealing either, loose flags, no proper path to the garage, grass needs cutting! Then there's the garage/games room. Yes there are amenities in there but it could do with sprucing up to make it more inviting. There's parts painted, wood on the floor (which owner admits too but suggests that facilities can still be used), the floor could do with painting (owner suggests this is painted when maintenance is carried out), there's a leak from the roof near the edge of the pool table (owner knows about this but suggests that it was worse because there was a storm). The arm on the hot tub was broken. The list goes on. We went expecting something a little more inviting and 'special '. We realise it's not a five star hotel but it's certainly not worth what we have paid for it. My husband got it in a nut shell when he described it as being like a hostel!.

The games room was a bonus but needs updating as it looks like an unfinished project. The large garden at the rear also looked unkempt. Jackie

The house is lovely - very spacious and well laid out. The location is fantastic - extremely peaceful; rural and quiet, but within easy reach of local beaches and other amenities. The games room and hot tub were also great. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others!

My family and I had an excellent time, no issues whatsoever. Games room was a total hit and many hours were spent here by us all. The addition of a welcome hamper was much appreciated Only thing I would ask is a mop and bucket or a flash mop. Due to muddy feet etc, Excellent stay

  • "This is a lovely holiday cottage in a beautiful setting and we greatly enjoyed our stay here."

It was a perfect size for us as a family of four with a dog and our teenagers particularly enjoyed the games room. The only negative is that some cleaning stuff and a mop and bucket would have been useful to clean as we went when coming in with wet shoes and a wet dog. This is a minor thing and didn’t affect our stay which we loved.

  • "Spacious property in a good location but the listing does need looking at."

Unfortunately gardens need attention, paving also as some are quite loose and dangerous.Front wooden step very loose and dangerous. I think this has been mentioned before. There is no orchard to speak of, overgrown and pond non existent. Lots of things just dumped behind the games room. Wardrobes dusty inside. Kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, everything you need so we did have a nice stay. However, we used the games room only once as my granddaughter tripped over a piece of wood, which is stuck to the floor right behind the table tennis table (the oche for the darts). Only grazed her knee but could have banged her face. Also, the vinery opposite the property is non existent. You cannot walk through it or see any views across the valley. The only first aid box seems to be in the games room - not ideal. Just a thought for a little improvement - the only outdoor furniture at the front is a wooden bench for two people. It would be lovely to have a table, four chairs and an umbrella so everyone can sit together. Also at the rear as there is a very big garden to take advantage of but only the wooden bench with wooden seating. Last of all there was no welcome pack which is pretty normal these days.

  • "Lawns overgrown badly, hiding animal faeces."

Patio at front of property ,paving not grouted with weeds between them. Loose wooden step up to front door (dangerous) Windows badly need cleaning with black mildew on interior framework (we cleaned off) This is our second visit to this property, but left sadly disappointed . Attention required before we would consider this property again.

I apologise for the lawns being overgrown they would have been cut on the day the customer arrived unfortunately our gardener had to let us down at the last minute as his young daughter was rushed into hospital after a cycling accident. According to our caretakers had several conversations on the day they arrived, one was how to get the balls out of the pool table which they talked him through another was to find out where they could go to eat locally and during their conversations commented how clean the property was. However if the caretakers during the many conversations had been informed of any mold they would have attended the property to rectify and clean the window frames. We would like to know out of curiosity which window frames were affected. The customer complained in the middle of their stay about the grass being overgrown after one of the children had trodden in animal faeces I apologise but our property is in the countryside and you do get wild animals come onto the property and defecate, this happens even if the grass is short. The step and patio will be attended to as soon as possible. Property Owner

  • "Fantastic Property with everything you need."

Very jealous would love to own a property like this with such potential and location. Quiet and peaceful. Amazing hot tub and plenty to do in games room. Would certainly return especially if beds had more comfy mattresses. If I could say the games room just needs a bit of a upgrade as it looked a little unfinished ( especially the piles of wood in the corner). little disappointed in the welcome pack as in the original description there was very nice goodies but we just had a packet of out of date choccy biscuits. And finally I would warn in the description how tricky some of the roads are on the last mile or so before you get to the property. Many thanks for letting us stay we really enjoyed ourselves and hope the comments are taken in the spirit intended.

  • "Hi there. We had a week in Southview in Sep 2022."

It's a great property with good facilities especially the jacuzzi. Mark and Julie who are the housekeepers looked after us really well, nothing was too much trouble . I would like to feed back to the actual owners (not the housekeepers) that the property is looking a little tired and needs a bit of tlc. Everywhere was clean and well appointed but there needs to be some repairs to some doors/showers/paving slabs outside and general decoration. The towels also have seen better days and could do with replacing for larger ones. I would still definitely recommend Southview especially if you have older children as the games room is an asset and it is in a beautiful area. Would recommend a visit to Llangrannog beach. (Hope I spelt that right)

  • "Southview is a fantastic holiday let."

We have been on lots of holidays over the years and Southview has to be one of the best for its facilities. There is plenty of storage space for your clothes etc. There are 5 toilets and 3 showers, great for us with 3 teenagers. The games room is excellent although previous users have mistreated the equipment, so we bought new chalk for the cues and a ping pong ball because the others had all been dented. We have left them there so the next people can enjoy them. The location may be a bit out of the way for some but we found it to be so peaceful with some lovely walks on your door step. The only negative for us was the Orchard mentioned in the description, because of the way it was written we were expecting to be able to walk around it but unfortunately this wasn’t possible. We did mention it to Julie & Mark, (who were fantastic by the way) and the owner sent someone round immediately to make a clearing.

  • "Lovely property, ideally positioned for seeing the sights of Mid-West Wales."

The managers, Julie and Mark Webb, were brilliant, informative and friendly. Mark's home cured, Applewood smoked bacon was outstanding, so we'd recommend a visit to Webb's Butchers in Rhydlewis. Their recommendation to take a boat trip from New Quay allowed us to see dolphins in the wild, the highlight of our holiday, thank you Dolphin Spotting Boat Trips, you lived up to your name. There are a few improvements that would make the cost of Southview seem better value - back door lock doesn't unlock easily from the outside, frequently had to go round to front and open from inside to avoid risk of breaking key; TV in at least one of the bedrooms; the house echoes, this is probably a Covid thing since soft furnishings are limited for sanitary reasons; the path to the fabulous games room should avoid the washing line and allow you to not have to walk on the grass. Positives - well equipped kitchen, excellent range of games and jigsaws, games room gave us hours of fun playing pool, table tennis, and darts and of course the top relaxation feature - the hot tub was superb and maintained to the highest hygiene standards. Thank you, a fabulous holiday was enjoyed by all three generations of our party.

We were able to take our dog any where we went as every where local seemed to be dog friendly - even dolphin trips! It was lovely to have a property with a fully enclosed back garden for our dog and even an orchard to stroll around in. The entertainment room really made it for us! We were able to relax in the hot tub, play ping ping and shoot some pool. The hosts went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and was lovely to meet them both. Although it seems so quite and tranquil, there is a big shop within a 5 minute drive,so no need to worry about running out of anything. I would suggest visiting the local butchers , Mark Webb and sons, they are fantastic hosts and even better butchers, we couldnt have been happier with the produce they provided there. We will definitely be coming back as was this was the best staycation we've ever had, just wished we'd booked to stay longer! 5 stars all round, especially to the hosts. Kai, Lisa & Lola

Overall we had a nice stay here and the welcome pack we received was much appreciated, and i have to say the caretakers Mark and Julia were great anything however large all small was no problem to them so Thankyou to you both. Please note the issue with previous reviews regarding cleaning issues have now been addressed thanks to the owner,The bungalow was very clean. The only slight niggle really is the fact you are out in the middle of the countryside so you would have to travel by car to most places ,but don't be put off by this as there are many places not to far to visit.

The on-suite shower room is great and so is the family bathroom. Nobody should ever need to queue for the loo with 4 toilets in the bungalow and a fifth in the games room. Hot tub and games room enough for the family especially if weather isn't up to much. Games a few books, CD's and DVD's in bungalow. Very clean but if you have the windows open be prepared for some of the local wildlife to fly in lol. Read a previous report about not having any phone reception at the bungalow or even in the area, ours never faulted so I suppose it depends on your service provider ours was BT. Also read about water pressure which was an area problem which the waterboard fixed whilst we stayed there. The owner Pam and the caretakers Julie and Mark where just a phone call away to sort out the one problem we did have with the water, which was turned of by the waterboard whilst they fixed the problems, but it was off a lot longer than expected and within 10 mins of phoning Julie they were at the Bungalow with drinking water for us and Pam phoned the waterboard who came up and they brought us drinking water and said it should be back on with in 90 mins and it was All in all a lovely stay

  • "Good layout of the house and bathrooms appear to be luxurious but there is a serious lack of water pressure meaning that even cleaning teeth was a challenge let alone taking a shower."

Cleanliness was not good enough, the bathroom sinks and toilets were clean as were the kitchen sides but fridge and inside cupboards were dirty, floors had obviously only had a quick whizz round clean, there was thick dust and dead insects in many areas. Some sort of grim stains all over the radiator in the living room, mold stains on some of the bedding. Drainage is also an issue in the property rendering the shower in the main bathroom unusable and the sink in the ensuite. The shower in the end shower room went from freezing to scalding constantly. The games room is great and was the saving grace of this property. The property is reached by a tiny one track road so be warned if you have a wide car. Also there is no mobile coverage - this is an issue all around New Quay area, while we quite enjoyed this we did have to drive to Aberaeron to make a call one day! The little basket of breakfast things was a nice touch. This could be an amazing place but has a feel of neglect about it, such a shame.

The extra touches of a welcome package, board games, books and DVDs was lovely. The games room provided hours of entertainment and the hot tub extremely relaxing. Even though the cottage is nearly three miles away from the nearest village, the butchers shop there stocks lots of other items as well as the most amazing meat. The sausages and bacon were the best we have ever tasted. The large back garden and orchard are perfect for dogs, our little cockerpoo loved every second. We really couldn't this cottage enough.

Just a few niggles 1 the heating controls need to be explained to visitors, the thermostat in the hall does nothing. there is a control in the lounge behind behind the television which has to turned on manually in the morning and off again at night, had to phone the owner to find this out. 2 there was rubbish and bottles left from the previous visitors, I contacted the council (again no info left) to find when the rubbich was collected which is a Thursday so put everything out. The bottles were taken to the bottle bank by the owner when asked to do so. 3 lastly my husband unblocked both the shower wastes of hair etc as they were overflowing, a battery need putting in the kitchen clock and more attention needs paying to the cleaning of the property, sweeping under furniture in the lounge, dead flies on the window ledges. You may feel we are being picky but we have used your company on numerous occasions over the years and this is the first time we have been disappointed.

We are sorry for Mrs Bowyer's disappointing stay. We have had problems with customers in the past not sorting or bagging their refuse properly and in consequence our maintenance man has to sort and bag on the Saturday changeover ready for the following Thursday council collection. There was a small amount of glass in the outside bin which is emptied to the recycling centre when half full. There is one sofa in the lounge which the cleaner did not pull out. Fly spray was used on leaving the property as a precaution, hence the dead flies. The shower drains are quite efficient at collecting debris and so are cleaned at each changeover. We understood that Mrs Bowyer extended her stay by nine days and an offer of extra maintenance was made but not taken up so we can only apologise on this occasion. Information on appliances etc are all in the folder in the welcome basket. We have now spoken to our cleaner and maintenance man to ensure high standards do prevail. We have also produced a quick guide for future customers regarding the wifi thermostat and refuse collection. Again, we are sorry for Mrs Bowyer's disappointing stay and hope to welcome her back in the future. Southview Cottage owners. Property Owner
