  • "A lovely spacious cottage, very well equipped and spotlessly clean."

Only suggestion is providing a shower extension in upstairs bathroom. We will visiting with friends and had the upstairs bathroom and there was no shower facility upstairs. Sue the host lived in adjoining cottage and was so friendly and helpful. A lovely box of goodies to welcome us. Would thoroughly recommend and it wA a competitively priced too. Thanks again to Sue xx

  • "Y Bwthyn is a lovely house situated on the end of a row of three isolated cottages in a secluded lane between the beautiful Talyllyn and Dysynni valleys."

The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped with excellent standard of finish and facilities. The owner lives nearby and is very helpful and there is secure indoor storage available for a 2/3 bikes. If you want an escape which is nonetheless close to Cadair Idris and the seaside resort of Tywyn this is ideal. There are plenty of options for outdoor activities nearby. Whilst the access road is narrow and steep this limits passing traffic to local residents and there is adequate parking for three full size cars on the flat outside the cottage. We had a great stay and will return.

Hi Ian I’m so pleased you had a good time and made the most of our lovely location! I was glad that the weather was so unexpectedly kind to you on the Saturday, and that all your planning worked out. It’d be lovely to see you back again, and I’ll make more space for bikes in the barn next time! Best wishes, Sue Property Owner

Brilliant welcome on arrival from Sue. We felt that the owner genuinely cares about her customers and is not just doing it for some additional retirement income. Property is clean, well appointed and very functional. We would definitely come back.

The property was exactly as described, and clean. It was perfect for our group weekend away to climb Snowdon, which was approx. an hour and 25mins away. There isn't much nearby that is within walking distance so if you need anything from a meal out, takeaway, shop etc you will need to drive - but this wasn't an issue for us. We very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend!

Hi Katheryn, I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay and that you all successfully climbed Snowdon, and that parking wasn't an issue there. It was good meeting you all, and it would be great to welcome you back another time, maybe to climb Cader Idris, just down the road! Best wishes, Sue Property Owner

  • "We had a fabulous family stay at Y Bwthyn and would definitely return again."

The cottage was immaculate, comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed and more after jam packed days of adventure. Was a little surprised to find the backyard was a graveyard, which wouldnt have been appropriate for our BBQ. It unsettled one of us for the first night and it's worth noting if you aren't comfortable with this sort of thing. We took our dog with us and even though we didn't use the blankets/bedding provided it was lovely to have the option. Sue left a welcome hamper which was a lovely touch and much appreciated. The location was beautiful and quiet, and felt safe, even when walking the dog around midnight. It is a child friendly property and our girls are already asking when we can return.

Hi Liz Thanks so much for your feedback and I’m so pleased you had such a good time with everything the area has to offer. Y Bwthyn is a converted chapel, and the old chapel’s cemetery is privately owned. However, if guests wish to explore the cemetery with its fascinating history, or use its grassy area behind the cottage for quiet pursuits, the Trustees have very kindly allowed this. It’s seen painting, yoga and just quiet sitting and relaxing over the years! It adds to Bwthyn’s own sunny enclosed terrace and the grassy open front garden. I’m glad you and your lovely dog have taken away some happy memories of your stay in Y Bwthyn and we’d love to see you all here again! Best wishes, Sue Property Owner

Y Bwthyn is a beautiful house, former chapel, in the tiny hamlet of Abertrinant. It’s a very peaceful & tranquil location where the only noises come from the wildlife. Inside it is very clean, well equipped & comfortable. Lots of information on things to do & places to see is provided. Sue was very friendly & helpful. The house is around 10-15 minutes from Tywyn, and is in easy reach of Dolgoch Falls, Abergynolwyn, Tal-y-llyn & Cadair Idris. We would definitely come back here for another stay. Thank you for letting us stay & making us so welcome Sue.

  • "Beautiful cottage in fabulous location."

Gorgeous house pretty and clean and well kitted out. Sat nav and phones didn’t work at all maybe due to the weather. You need an ordnance survey map handy at ALL times. Needs a better explanation on the description for dogs. NO back garden, nowhere to walk dogs at the house (too many sheep, steep road) or let them outside for doggy business! Very dark at night and needed a torch to take dogs for toilet. Also it would have been even lovelier if the house had a log fire to come back to!!! But even after all this I would still recommend it to others! Ps Far too many jobs to do at the end of the stay like cleaning, washing, stripping beds. Also very sad not to get in until 4 and have to leave by 9.30. Seems a bit unjust!!!

Hi Fiona, I’m glad you enjoyed your stay and would recommend Y Bwthyn to others. The cottage’s beautiful rural surroundings, not far from Tywyn beach, means many pet owners book for that reason, often saying what lovely walks there are around Y Bwthyn for their dogs. They have all been happy to keep their pets on a lead in the lanes and the grassed front garden. Snowdonia is a sheep farming area, which is why we make it clear to guests before they book that dogs should be on a lead when outside the boundaries of the cottage & patio. We provide details of lovely areas nearby where dogs can safely run off the lead. There are glorious starry skies here due to low light pollution, and we provide good outside lighting and torches for guest use. The WiFi network in Y Bwthyn allows guests to set up a local communications ‘hub’ for, e.g. WiFi calling, WhatsApp and setting up SatNavs, mitigating poor mobile reception in our little valley. Two slight niggles - no hook on the back of bathroom door for dressing gowns, and being open-plan I was aware of noise from the fridge when watching television. We visit it often in our memories. It's a very beautiful, well presented Chapel house with spectacular views of the hillside. We were made to feel especially welcome with a lovely hamper of delicious treats. The milk in the fridge was joy to behold as we had not managed to purchase any on route and we were all ready for a cup of tea when we arrived!! The interior is well thought out and cosy. It was lovely to have both a bathroom and walk in shower. There is attention to detail with plug in nightlights to help navigate the property at night and a discreet stair gate to safeguard younger visitors. Y Bwthyn is situated in a very quite area with an abundance of wildlife. We enjoyed many a morning and evening watching the nesting Martins and pipistrelle bats flying around. The three free range sheep who would walk past the Chapel on an evening, pause to stare at us before munching on the hedgerow, made us smile as we sat out enjoying a nightcap in the property's front garden. The Velux windows in the property allowed the light and breath taking views to stream in, adding to the serenity and beauty of the property. There are lots of lovely walks in the vicinity, such as bird rock and an iron age fort, Castlle Y Bere and large lake for wild water swimming. Aberdovey, Tywn, Barmouth and Dolgoch falls are all well worth a visit. It was lovely having Sue, who owned the property, so close by, and we did enjoy our chats and seeing her amazing photographs of animals, birds and landscapes. Thank you very much for having us. The upstairs bathroom features historic timber beams from the original chapel, and its large airy skylights and solid oak floor makes it perfect to relax in the bath beneath the sky.

While these luxurious timber features means there is no upstairs shower, the downstairs wet room offers the cottage's spacious shower facilities.

Appreciate the stunning views from the enclosed front terrace, where you can dine outside as you listen to birdsong.

An open grassed area opposite the cottage offers a space for games.

Why not find out more about the fascinating history of Abertrinant by exploring the old chapels cemetery.

The Trustees are happy for guests to look around and also to use the grassy area behind the cottage for quiet sitting, yoga or simply drinking in the view.

The area boasts some of the finest beaches in Britain, with miles of golden sand-dune-backed shoreline running from Aberdovey north to Tywyn, with its promenade, leisure centre, independent cinema, restaurants, cafes and steam railway.

The beaches are perfect for holidaymakers, swimmers and surfers as well as water sports enthusiasts in the local estuaries.

Bounded by the Dyfi, Dysynni and Mawddach valleys, the peaks of Cader Idris and the Aran Fawddwy ranges are within easy reach, with Coed y Brenin forest nearby. A precious cottage in a southern part of Snowdonia.
