  • "Had a brilliant holiday."

The lodge is perfect, very clean and comfortable. It is maintained to a very high standard, with everything you need. Tom is lovely and friendly and very helpful. The hot tub is the icing on the cake, went in it every day. The little birds that visit all day long gave us hours of pleasure. The views are stunning, even when it was raining!! Lots to do in the area and close to shops, pubs and beaches. Hopefully we will be back next year. Thanks Tom and Family x x Ellen and William

A warm welcome from the owner who gave us information about walks from the property. Very well equipped (would benefit from a clothes airer, a sieve and kitchen scales). Plenty to do in the area within a short drive. The hot tub was lovely to relax in at the end of a busy day. Would highly recommend a stay here.

The pictures don’t do the lodge and the setting justice, it’s so peaceful and the lodge is clean and decorated to provide a home from home experience. It has everything needed. The hot tub was fantastic and it was perfect to sit and admire the amazing view and the abundance of wildlife around. We spent our days exploring Wales, and the hosts were very helpful in guiding us with places to visit, and even rescuing us when we got lost on a walk in the hills. As a family of four we throughly enjoyed the time we spent here and will helpfully be returning soon!

The lodge was spotlessly clean and very comfortable for 2 couples, the 2 en-suite rooms being perfect. In a very peaceful location but close enough to the town for supplies. • "A lovely welcome and a lovely property."

Everything there that we required however, one of the bedrooms could do with having a set of drawers in - nowhere to put clothes that didn't hang up - only 1 shelf in the wardrobe. The other bedroom (the en-suite shower room) - the toilet lid/seat was annoying as it would not stay up. That said, the lodge is a wonderful place to stay - gorgeous views and the hot tub a bonus. Plenty of space and everything we needed in the kitchen. Owners seemed to have thought of everything. We'd definitely recommend a stay here. The town of Llanidloes is a lovely place - go to the Cobblers Tea Room and you won't be disappointed - but make sure you visit the toilet there too!! The Angel Inn for a meal is a must. Many thanks for a lovely stay - just what we all needed.

The actual cottage was even better than expected! It had everything we needed and more. We brought our own food to have during the whole stay which was catered for by the equipment however there are more than enough shops in the local village if you needed supplies which is a 5 minute drive away. Brilliant views in the hot tub and viewing areas around the property, the only thing I would recommend is to move the bird feeder as it does block the views a little bit from the hot tub

The chalet is built beautifully, the view is wonderful as you look over into the valley bowl and can watch the sunrise from the front porch or hot tub which is an amazing experience. It's great to watch the birds come down to the feeder which the family top up regularly. It was easy to get the place warm. My kids enjoyed having a bit of driveway to use their scooters abs balance bike on. My partner enjoyed having the gas bbq which is well thought out as it's outside but under a big awning so if it was raining your could still sit out. Emma left us essentials such as dishwasher tablets, washing tabs which we always forget to bring so it was appreciated. If I had to change anything it would be bigger beds but were used to a super king at home, and more plates /bowls etc. But it felt like a real treat to be there for all of us.

The owners are very proud of their holiday homes and so they should be. From the friendliness, warm welcome, a delightful hamper, extremely comfortable to the beautiful views and the icing on the cake is the hot tub. Our stay was just perfect. If I was to suggest a couple of things it would be things like steak knives, probably a little more crockery, after using the BBQ (which I might add was a fabulous bonus), no plates to serve the food from. One small paring knife and one bread knife also needs upgrading, or at least adding to, along with a workable tin opener. I would also suggest a spray disinfectant for cleaning down the kitchen surfaces after use. These suggestions certainly didn't impede on our stay but having a steak knife after cooking on the BBQ would have made cutting it a little easier.

  • "We have just come back from a week at The Firs."

We did not want to leave! The views where tremendous and the lodge was equipped with everything we needed. We had a lovely welcome hamper and Tom gave us a thorough tour of the lodge. We had some wonderful days out but nothing beat getting in the hot tub at night, listening to the local wildlife (which included owls), looking at the big harvest moon and watching shooting stars. Breakfast was as equally stunning looking out over the valley and watching the Red Kites soar on the thermals. The location was so peaceful and we can’t thank Tom enough for such a relaxing holiday. Please don’t hesitate to book, you won’t be disappointed.

  • "When we arrived at The Firs we were met by Tom the owner, who was really friendly he explained everything we needed to know on a mini tour of the lodge."

Olwen and Tom had left us a lovely welcome hamper which was much appreciated especially the fresh bread from Andy's. The lodge itself is built to a very high standard, the outside terrace and views were a fantastic addition and having the hot tub under the sheltered roof meant even when it rained we could use it and take in the views. We used the barbeque every evening. The location is about 3 miles from Llanidloes, with a nice swing park for the kids, Andy's bakery and a large COOP just on the outskirts that sold everything we needed. For days out we would recommend, Aberdovey, Barmouth (take the small ferry to the island or walk across the bridge). Devils Bridge was a great walk with some fantastic scenery not suitable if you suffer vertigo as Jacobs ladder is around 100 vertical steps down on slippery slate. King Arthurs Labyrinth was a great adventure for the kids in a underground cave with the boatman showing you round. We also went to see the Red Kite feeding at Girgin Farm 3pm each day it was amazing seeing 300 red kites swooping down, there is also a lovely two mile walk with some great scenery. There is plenty to do and see from the lodge all within 1 hours drive through some breathtaking winding roads. We would have no hesitation returning to The Firs.

  • "The lovely wooden lodge is so comfortable and is in a very quiet and scenic location."

It has been beautifully furnished with Laura Ashley furniture and accessories and has everything that we needed, and more! From the spacious terrace (and the hot tub) there are stunning views over the valley to the mountains in the distance. The owners couldn't have been more helpful and left a lovely welcome pack for our arrival. Everything exceeded our expectations and we can highly recommend this lodge and were sad to leave.

  • "WOW..."

This newly built cottage is just about perfect...two spacious bedrooms both with ensuites, an open plan kitchen,(well stocked) dining and sitting room (with 2 very comfortable laura ashley couches, one of which can convert to a bed). The location on the hillside of a beautiful valley is breathtaking, the views are amazing,...there is a veranda on 2 sides of the cottage which allows you to be outside in all weather. It is peaceful and quiet and still only a few minutes drive from the local village which has an award winning takeaway. The beds were so comfortable, the TV in each bedroom a lovely touch. Tom and Olwyn are such gracious hosts, there if you need anything, otherwise leave you alone to rest and relax, we felt very welcome, the local biscuits, t-bags, bread, butter, Elderflower cordial, bottled water already in the fridge, even milk started our week long stay in a high note.. ..come watch the red kites soaring on the thermals over the valley, hear the swifts return to the nearby barn to roost at dusk.....you are truly on holidays, "away from it all". We hope to return, perhaps in Winter, we might be very lucky to stay there in the snow.
