  • "This is a lovely, interesting building, being an old station on the Heart of Wales railway line."

There are great views from the lounge and kitchen due to the living quarters being upstairs and the bedrooms located on the ground floor. The accommodation is about the cleanest we've stayed in. The owner who lives next door was wonderfully helpful and friendly as well as providing us with delicious homemade cake. This property is very well equipped.

  • "We spent a lovely week at Ty'r Orsaf."

We went primarily for the Builth Wells Antique Fair but found the cottage a great base to visit the surrounding Mid Wales area. The Elan Valley Dams in particular were only 20 minutes away and great for scenic walks. The cottage's upside down layout was great, as it meant the views over the surrounding countryside were easily seen. It had everything you could need and some, incluing a welcome cake from Sara. And the passing trains were an added bonus as we felt like big kids rushing to the window to watch them stop or trundle by - only approx 8 a day so not constant noise. All in all a great week.

Sara is an amazing host and made us feel so welcome. The property is spotlessly clean and really well equipped. It is comfortable and homely but has all the mod cons. The games and books were such a bonus and kept the children amused. It is in a lovely quiet setting but not too far from amenities. I fell in love with the area and will definitely stay here again when we come back.

Fabulous accommodation, wonderful location and a very lovely part of the world to visit. Your welcome is likely to surprise you - in a very nice way - because it is so rare. I'm not spoiling it by telling you! You should experience it for yourself. Don't let the trains in close proximity put you off. You rarely hear them and forget they are there after the first day. Lovely relaxing holiday. Would absolutely return.

! the house was immaculate, Sara the owner who lives just next door even took time out of her busy day to come and check everything was satisfactory. Thank you Sara for being a wonderful host , thank you for the beautiful cake that was waiting for us when we arrived. We strongly recommend you visit Ty'r Orsaf which is situated on a railway platform at Builth Road ( very quiet station) We enjoyed watching the trains pass by ( about 8 a day ) if the trains don't interest you don't worry you can enjoy the garden which is beautifully kept by Sara herself , we enjoyed watching the red kites fly over ... We thoroughly enjoyed our week visiting Rhayader and Shrewsbury . The photographs do not do this house justice , you will not be disappointed if you book . We are hoping to return . Thank you again Sara for providing a quirky, beautiful holiday home for all to enjoy. Xx

The upside down design of having the sitting / living and kitchen areas upstairs results in wonderful views towards the hills. Property is furnished to an extremely high standard with extremely comfortable beds. The owners have taken great care to ensure that every possible item that might be needed is there. Property had been cleaned throughout to a very high standard and the friendly and helpful owners (who live next door) were readily available for help if any had been needed This property is the best one we have hired from Sykes and must be one of the best in the country, and we would strongly recommend it it to others. For individuals with mobility problems, it is probably worth being aware that the staircase is slightly steeper than normal, with higher risers than normal, as well as having more steps than normal, However, there is a sturdy handrail - as well as a cloakroom upstairs.

I am ceoliac and this is the only cottage we have ever stayed in where Sara the owner rang me in advance to ask about dietary requirements. She baked me the most delicious fresh cream and raspberry roulade, listing the ingredients so I knew it was safe for me and a cherry and coconut loaf for my husband, which he also enjoyed. • "This is a fantastic property with a lovely owner."

We had great instructions to find the cottage and there was ample parking in front to unload! The property is part of the old railway station, so the livingroom and kitchen was upstairs - so you could enjoy the views. The whole accomodation was clean to a standard where we thought we were the first to use it. Everything was squeaky clean and the towels and bedlinen quite luxurious! There was a toffee and apple cake for us on arrival with jams, milk, tea and coffee (pods) too. Everything worked as it was supposed to and there was an instruction book if we ran into difficulties. We arrived with a little idea of what to visit, which was firmed up by reading through the stack of leaflets and talking to our host. We visited the dams at Elan Vally; drove to Aberystyth to see the beach, castle and the cliff railway and went to the National Showcaves Centre for Wales - all within a decent drive from the cottage. The catering facilities were great, as was the dishwasher and provided tablets. The fridge was a great size and allowed us to bring everything we needed for the get-a-way. The cottage backs onto the railway line and there were a few trains that passed us by. We were quite surprised how quiet they were. We were expecting shaking ceilings but they pulled in and left quietly and even a few passengers waved to the children. Evenings were great with a large TV, a selection of DVDs, board games and a gamestation - which we used to play the DVDs. The large sofa was both comfy and a great base to play games from. Thank you to Sara for a lovely stay in her beautiful cottage. We'd highly recommend a stay to all.
