  • "On arrival we had to clean the bungalow as there was dogs hair left behind after the last lot of holiday makers."

The kettle was dirty inside we had to give it a good deep clean with descaling liquid. No hot water for the kitchen sink lucky we had a dishwasher there. The double sliding door would not open easily took 2 of us to open the door. The cooker wasn’t working properly kept knocking off. Cleaner wasn’t working properly it burnt itself out and give off a smell of burning. The mop bucket was broken so NO mopping could be done. Not properly pointed out that second car is to be parked on the grass opposite the bungalow and that there is a big stone there which you can catch your car on when revising into the grass part. As this is what happened to us.

Had you called Menai Holidays on the telephone number provided in both your key collection email and the Welcome Book at the property, they would have been able to request the house keepers return to resolve any cleanliness issues. As explained in the Welcome Book the hot water for the sinks in the kitchen and bathroom are fed by an immersion heater which, by the sounds of it, a previous guest had switched off. Also explained in the Welcome Book is that the timer function on the oven will only work if you set the time after switching the power on. Thank you for letting us know that the vacuum cleaner broke while you were using it, it has since been replaced. As has the mop bucket, although we do also provide a Bissell Steam / Vac, Bissell Floor Buffer and two micro-fibre laminate floor mops. The property is advertised as having only 1 off street parking space. We allow you to park a second car on the front lawn at your own risk, with the stone you mention being clearly visible. • "Generally unclean."

Makeup found side of settee. Dog treats from previous occupants by coffee table unclean furniture and bed. Water leaks in conservatory. And wet chair. Dirty towels left in laundry. Generally uncared garden. Not up to sykes usual standard. If this property is designed for disabled it should only be let out for this purpose only very disappointed.

As you did not report any issues during your stay you did not give us the chance to do anything about them. The leak in the conservatory roof has since been fixed. A gardener visits once a month during the summer and, as explained in the Welcome Book, the linen service collects dirty laundry from the garage on a Tuesday and replaces them on a Friday ready for the change over the next day. • "The cottage is in a lovely position in a quiet street with great views towards the Lleyn Peninsular."

However, there was no ‘welcome pack’ of tea, coffee, milk, etc, which after staying at many other properties is unusual. This is a small gesture which is always appreciated. No oven gloves or tea towels are provided. We had to use one of the hand towels - not really a safe way of getting food out of the oven. A washing up sponge was provided, but this was very worn and obviously several weeks old and not a new one. The beds were clean but not very well presented and had to be totally remade. The one quilt case did not even fit the quilt. The fabric sofa was old and had seen better days and needed a good hoover. There is a lack of storage space for clothes with just one wardrobe and one set of drawers for the whole property – not adequate for potentially 6 people! The lean to (it can’t be called a conservatory) leaks, so be careful not to leave anything in there. Overall, this property has great potential but needs to have some TLC and money spent on it to make it a perfect holiday let.

Thanks for you feedback, we agree it is very quiet, friendly and has great views - even in winter. Our new housekeepers now leave a welcome pack of tea and coffee etc. We've added oven gloves to the linen service so they should never go missing again. The leak in the sun room was quite sporadic, seemingly only happening in high winds from a certain direction, making it difficult to diagnose. Since your stay we've had some good weather, so we've been able to get that fixed. We'll look to getting the two seat sofa changed shortly, for something that is easier to keep dog hair free, or as free as is possible. Property Owner

Very little storage space and no coat hooks . The only thing that would stop us booking again is having to go through bedroom to the conservatory and garden not very practical when you have dogs .

We're glad to hear you enjoyed your stay, but I'm afraid we can't change the layout as that's the way it was built in the 60s. The bath mat is changed every week as part of the linen service, I can't think why our old housekeeper didn't put it out for you. Property Owner

  • "This is a no frills holiday accommodation."

The bungalow sits just of the main road on a quiet hillside with views across to the dunes and sea beyond. It’s in a very quiet and pleasant residential area. The sun sets are awesome. The holiday bungalow just doesn’t have that holiday feel - it’s more like a lovely bungalow for a disabled person in a wheelchair. The layout doesn’t sit well with me as to get to the dining area/conservatory or even the back garden the only way is through the lounge and main bedroom. There is no real storage furniture for clothes coats shoes other than one wardrobe in the whole accommodation. No hooks for towels, tea towels. Nothing at all welcoming for our holiday, no welcome pack, no milk, only one dishwasher tablet, no flowers to make the place smell lovely. There were just two of us and the dog and despite it accommodating 6 I’m not sure that would be comfortable.

Thank you for your feedback and you are absolutely correct, it's a 3 bed bungalow with a floorpan and equipment to make it accessible for wheelchair users or others with mobility problems. At a lot of accessible holiday lets you have to hire profiling beds or hoists at extra cost, so we think it is very good value. Our new housekeepers now leave a small welcome pack of tea, coffee, sugar, milk, washing up sponge, dish cloth and bin bag. Property Owner

  • "The property is well located to access the local area but would have to agree with other reviewers that the property was not very clean."

When we arrived the garden was littered with dog mess, we picked up most of it but there was bags and bags of it. While the bathroom was clean the rest of the house has a lot of dog hair on the seats and cobwebs etc. We can probably sympathise with the cleaners because in the time between change overs there isn’t the time to give the property the deeper clean that it needs.

We're very sorry to hear that the previous guests left some unpleasant surprises for you in the back garden. It is the responsibility of the departing guests to leave the property in a good state, any issues should be reported to Menai Holidays upon arrival so they can be dealt with at the time. • "I did phone Sykes begging of our stay with a list of problems - I received an email saying Chloe would contact."

Me - she never did! There was no drawers in the main bedroom so lived out of our suitcase for two weeks - we placed the open suitcase in the conservatory - big mistake, it rained and the roof leaked so badly out clothes were sodden so had to wash and dry the whole lot. No bath mat, only 3 hand towels between 4, no tea towels, half a bag of crisps scattered under coffee table, top of tap in kitchen comes off, bathroom door not on a bottom runner so blows open, door in utility room off runner ( husband and son managed to put back on), broken cords at bottom of blinds, no potato peeler electrical equipment not PAT tested and the cable behind the tv is very yellow and brittle, and the whole place need a good clean. Real shame it's the start of the season and previous review show problems that should/could easily been put right because the actual bungalow is lovely and views really special. Because we booked and paid Sykes for this holiday and no email address to send our concerns to felt you had our money and forgot about us. Unfortunately we had already booked another break with Sykes for a week in October in Devon before we did this 2 week break, now I'm really anxious about what we will find!!!

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave feedback for your stay at 37 Bro Enddwyn. We are very sorry not to have got in touch, this was an oversight in the office and we do apologise. We take all feedback seriously, and we will make sure all the issues you have raised are looked into and communicated to the owners to make sure they are addressed as soon as possible. • "My brother is confined to a wheelchair and not all the equipment was wheelchair friendly."

The refrigerator was far too high for him to reach. The surface on the upper layer of the garden was very unsafe and part of the wall near the hosepipe was in danger of falling. We had noticed that the fittings for the fire extinguisher were loose and when we arrived back on Thursday it was on the floor. Very short of storage space in the bedrooms. Having said that we enjoyed our stay, facilities were generally good. The super king size bed was ideal for my brother, as was the wet room. View from the front window was beautiful.

We're very glad to hear that you enjoyed the view and your brother benefitted from the accessibility features we have onsite. Unfortunately the kitchen is not big enough to accommodate separate under the counter fridge and freezer units, with almost all combined fridge freezers have the freezer at the bottom. The alternative would be to have a separate freezer in the garage, which has it's own drawbacks, so a compromise had to be made. Property Owner

  • "No complaints from our family, friends and young dog."

Five of us stayed the week up to Easter and we all enjoyed a very clean house, gorgeous bird song/plants in the garden and proximity to the sea and mountains of Snowdonia. The beds were comfortable, kitchen well equipped, water hot and the DVD/bookshelf impressive. Chess and jigsaw good for a rainy day too. Our only suggestions are: putting up door hooks or rails for hanging/drying in each room. When temps are low to ask someone to put the storage heaters ahead of arrival. And tiny things like replacing the tin opener and washing up dispenser as both were MIA. For the complainers, the whole property was super clean and tidy for us and, yes there were woodlice, but they're harmless funny little creatures. I wouldn't be saying the same for spiders though and it is fairly normal with an older wooden conservatory and the warmth from the sunshine in there is amazing. Thank you, we'll be back.

We're glad to hear you had a nice holiday and look forward to welcoming you again in the future. The missing items have been replaced and we'll act on your other suggestions shortly, many thanks for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "I have photos if you want them."

.the place on entering smelt of dirty mop/horrible pine smell that took 2 days to go. On checking the floor mops .. all 3 of them were filthy. There were dog smears all over the lounge window and dog hairs on the orange? Fabric suite. The brown corner sofa had no cushion support whatsoever. The kitchen laminate flooring had peeled in a few places and the kitchen worktop had to. The front bedroom had 4 woodlice around the skirting board. The rear twin bedroom had a several stains on it. The accessible bedroom was ok but again woidlice we’re having a ball in their. Also noticed that the ceiling joist had not been LOLER serviced since 2019. The adapted bathroom/shower was good apart from the curtain and silicon beading being stained. The worst bit was the so called ‘conservatory’ more like a dilapidated shack. Woodlice were crawling everywhere (42 I killed on morning) the roof leaked and the boarded panels by the windows were stained with mould in areas. Outside there was limited parking .. there was a sign in the bungalow that said to park on the grass opposite but because of rain this proved not to be a good place to park as the grass got churned up when driving off the grass. On a plus note.. the neighbours are lovely

Thanks for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that the cleanliness of the bungalow was not up to it's usual high standard when you arrived, if you had called Menai Holidays they would have been able to ask the cleaners to return and put those things right. The ceiling hoist (2 function with hooked spreader bar) is covered with a biannual service contract and been checked again today. Parking on the front lawn is usually fine, but we'll add some ground stabilisation before next winter. Property Owner

  • "The property has many cleanliness & maintenance issues."

The bed was broken in the double bedroom, the slats were on the floor and clips were on the heater so the issue was known. It could not be used for 2 days. The main settee was so worn it was almost unusable. If you do not like insects do not go we did not use the conservatory or utility as it was an infestation of woodlice and many also in the bathroom, an issue which has been mentioned previously by someone else in there review. We have been with Sykes cottages many times and this was not up to standard.

Unfortunately neither the housekeeper or previous guests reported the issue with the slats falling out from the underside of the double bed. Menai were able to provide a temporary resolution during your stay and the bed has since been replaced with one that has fixed metal slats, so it won't happen again. As stated in response to previous feedback, the leather corner sofa was new at the start of 2022 and is softly sprung. If you suffer from back pain and require specialist orthopaedic seating, we recommend you check with Menai before booking. Property Owner

Thanks for your feedback and we're glad to hear that you enjoyed the view, which even during the middle of winter can be spectacular. The property is cleaned after every visit, so if you had contacted Menai Holidays they would have been able to ask the housekeeper to return and correct any issues. I.e: I felt the one settee was way past its best, and the leather one was starting to show wear as well. The bathroom door really needed replacing and I found the bed I slept in to hard for me (but that is a personal taste). And I also had to get the maintenance man in to repair the slats on it and to repair the toilet roll holder as it was hanging of the wall. I would also put out that the conservatory roof leaks badly when it rains. But on a positive note, the view from the bungalow was lovely.

Thank you for your comments. We are glad you enjoyed the view as it is spectacular. We welcome all feedback and are always striving to improve our guests' experience. We were thankful that only two of us were staying there as we found the bedrooms to be very lacking in storage space. We understand that the main bedroom needed to leave space for a wheelchair to be manoeuvred and for us we were able to use the drawers in the twin bedroom. A vital kitchen item that was missing, and would have been useful because of the layout of the house, were a couple of trays to carry hot plates to the dining table in the conservatory or to be able to eat from our knees.
