  • "Overall, really enjoyed this property."

Great location for exploring North Wales (particularly Barmouth, Harlech, Porthmadog, Portmeirion etc). Plenty of parking for 4 cars. Stairs up to the property a bit of an issue for those with mobility issues but we knew this before booking. Nice entry hall welcoming you in. Space for coats and shoes etc. Ground floor is a large room with a king sized bed and two singles with a large en-suite shower room (powerful shower). Also a chill out area at the bottom of the stairs. The 1st floor (main living area) is huge. Large living room with comfortable seating for around 9 people on the sofas. A sliding door opens up onto the balcony with lovely views of the sea in the distance. The only thing here is the plants/weeds are slightly overgrown (could do with a trim). Two other bedrooms on the 1st floor (twin and a single). Lovely rooms. The main sharing bathroom is huge (large double ended bath and walk in shower). Utility room is handy (washing machine and dryer) with an additional w/c. Dining room was large enough to sit 8 comfortably. Nice kitchen with plenty of storage. Could do with an extra fridge to accommodate everyone. Lots of pots/pans/crockery etc. Nice tea pot and cafetiere. Wine cooler was hit and miss (went up to 18° at one point and then down to 5°). Tap was leaking (we reported it to Scott, he said there was one on order so hopfully it'll be sorted soon). Oven wasn't straightforward to use and the electric hob was fiddly (when used to a gas hob). The 2nd floor was home to two king sized rooms (one with full en-suite and the other with a w/c and sink). The advert states one of these are on the first floor, however, they're both on the 2nd floor. Both lovely rooms though. Back garden was large (over two levels). Hot tub was lovely. All family enjoyed it. Nice lights for the evening too. The only negative was we had to be out by 21.45 due to neighbours (we were in there until 22.00 one night (quietly) and they complained. Makes you think what they'd say if the owners used it after 22.00...). The BBQ was a nice addition (although it was dirty, we had to deep clean it). The garden furniture looked as if it hadn't been cleaned for quite a while (leaves all over it etc). Some additional points: Scott was great. We had a few issues early on (no bucket for the mop, no mats for the shower, washing machine and dryer stopped working (fuse went) and no laundry baskets). He came round and sorted it all. Lovely guy too. Could do with an area where you can wash things after a beach visit. The house was really hot too (couldn't adjust the settings). Some of the mattresses were stained (we were told off for removing the mattress protectors after leaving - I can only assume they didn't want us seeing the stains). Recycling is hit and miss too. The days of collection have changed. Also, need more internal bags for cardboard and cans. Although I have stated a few negatives here, as I said at the start of the review, we enjoyed it overall and would return. We had a welcome box of chocolates and bottles of wine (nice touch). Shop was about 1/2 a mile or so away (nice butchers too). Ynysgethin pub was superb (highly recommend). Lovely surrounding areas (would like to live here). If the small issues had not existed, then it would be difficult to give any negatives. Overall 8.5 out of 10.

  • "We enjoyed another lovely holiday at Cae Cerrig with our 3 generation family."

The views from the lounge window & balcony across Cardigan bay are amazing, and we all loved the hot tub. There is so much to do in this beautiful part of Wales for all the family, especially if you enjoy beaches and walking. The kitchen was very well equipped, although we struggled a bit with the size of the large fridge with our group of 11. All the facilities are well maintained. The owner was immediately available to sort a problem with a toilet, and was friendly and very helpful at all times. We would love to book again, but really need another bed in the single bedroom to accommodate the older children, if it's possible to have bunk beds, or an extra bed in there. Although it says there are 3 bathrooms, if you count the toilet and basin as a bathroom there are actually 4, so the bathroom facilities are very good for a large group. The double bedroom that it says on the first floor on the website, is actually on the 2nd floor with the other family room. So there is only the twin and single bedrooms and the family bathroom on the first floor, at the same level as the lounge, dining room and kitchen. Thank you Scott for another lovely holiday. We hope to see you again.

  • "Lovely house, very spacious and a great outdoor space and wonderful hot tub."

Great views and superb location. The many showers and bathrooms were very handy!! Sadly the house was dirty- didn’t look like it had been properly cleaned in a while as all the surfaces had thick dust, especially the bedrooms. Our bedding downstairs had stains on, and our little girl found another child’s Teddy down the side of her bed which was worrying as I can’t imagine not seeing it if the beds were changed before we arrived. There was also a lot of broken glass outside and the outdoor furniture cushions had mould on so we were unable to use them. Another concern was that part of the kitchen cupboard (above the microwave) actually fell off whilst we were there and landed on our sons foot!!! He was really hurt and his toe has gone completely black- fortunately it happened on the last day so it didn’t prevent us doing anything, but he is still hobbling at home. Scott was really kind and came to clean the hot tub half way through our stay, as it was dirty by Wednesday. We did stick to the rules, but perhaps a week is too long without the water being changed/cleaned. Thank you for doing that. We did have a lovely stay, and the property is ideal for a big family group.

My keys fell to the back of the drawers in the hall way and I moved the unit to retrieve them and there was years of dust and debris ie Christmas decorations receipts etc and this was the norm everywhere, dirty sock and a playing card found under the bed and cobwebs everywhere (cobwebs with months of dust on them). I had to go out and buy cleaning equipment.

  • "This is a great property, really well located and really well looked after."

We had a fab week, and it was a real luxury to have underfloor heating throughout and the hot tub when we got back from a long walk. Scott came to greet us and was very welcoming which was a nice touch. The only very minor point is I do wonder whether previous guests might have pilfered the teaspoons as there were only 4!!!! That aside it is brilliantly located for the coast and the mountains, and we did a couple of really great walks without needing the car. Watching the sun set into the sea from the balcony was quite magical. Thank you

The hot tub was brilliant. We sat on the balcony each night watching the sun set, unforgettable! Loved the area, close to beaches n of course not far from Barmouth which was favourite with the kids. Thanks to the owners of the house once again for making our holiday get together full of great memories.

The house is well equipped and everything worked. We also all enjoyed the hot tub. The house is cosy and the beds were very comfortable. We appreciated the welcome chocolates and wine and that the owner gave us a warm welcome on day one. The only downside was the nearest open pub was 30 mins walk away. There were lots of local walks a short drive away in areas of stunning beauty. Barmouth, is only a 15 mins drive and there are lots of pubs and restaurants there. We look forward to coming back.

We found the location perfect as it was within walking distance of the edge of Snowdonia national park and a beautiful beach with safe swimming. There are also enough local attractions within a few miles to to keep a toddler and the family happy (Harlech castle, Barmouth, farm play park and slate caverns). Our welcome gift of wine and chocolates from Scott was a lovely touch. I would really recommend this property and location.

We loved our stay here, with lovely clean and comfortable beds in every room for everybody. The sun setting over the sea each evening was amazing to see from the living room. We didn’t want for anything even the cot had bedding included. The hot tub was a big hit with the adults and children, and the owners were so helpful and friendly to us. We were 3 families so the 5 bedrooms and separate bathrooms were great. St David’s golf course was amazing and only 5 miles away. The Victoria Inn for food and drinks is gorgeous, on the side of the river and only 2 miles away. The Milk Bar in Barmouth does amazing breakfast, friendly staff and again only a few miles down the road. Would highly recommend this property and will definitely be returning. The Davies Family.

The use of the hot tub was especially welcome. The property was very well positioned with lovely views across Cardigan Bay and the Lleyn Peninsular. Scott, the owner, turned up on the day we arrived and ensured we were happy with everything and took time to explain the workings of the hot tub etc. Our party consisted of 6 adults and 4 young boys 5 years and under. The owners visited to help explain how to use the hot tub and were very helpful recommending local places to visit. The hot tub was a wonderful bonus, which we thoroughly enjoyed. I would like to recommend that the owners install wifi boosters though because the property is so big the signal barely reaches the tv. Netflix was a bit patchy and the computer console we had taken for the kids didn't recieve enough wifi to work.

Lots of room and the kitchen was very well equipped. The hot tub was a big hit. BUT I checked twice with Sykes cottages that there would be a cot there, once by phone and once by online chat and I was assured there would be. We arrived just as the owner did. He had noticed that we had a baby in our party and thought it strange that a cot hadn't been requested. Fortunately he was there to unlock the store room and get the cot out for us. Thanks so much Scott and Sykes Cottages please note that you have to inform the owner that a cot is needed.
