Property would benefit from a deep clean Parking outside cottage awkward as owner of the field behind uses drive to access with tractors etc There are no pubs in the village both have closed down

First of all, my apologies for the inconvenience caused by the farmer at rear of the cottage. I have contacted him and he had already completed the work. There is a separate road n0w being used along front of the Church. A little confused with regards to the pubs comment, having been involved with the cottage for near 60 years, I'm not aware of any pubs existing in the village but there did exist an off licence and guest house Ael-Y-Brin which closed few years back. I do make mention in my notes to those staying at the cottage that the Cadwgan is 200yds along lane towards railway and the Ysgethin in Talybont at approx 1 mile a good sobering walk back to the cottage. A spider catcher (not fatal) is available at the cottage for visitors. On the cleaning comment, I'm not aware of an serious issues but will be visiting soon from Leicester to follow up. • "This lovely little cottage was perfect for myself, My husband and 4 children."

We were visiting friends in the area and also wanted to be close to Barmouth but not in the thick of the hustle and bustle. The cottage was lovely and warm and cosy. Our children loved the quirky adjoining bedrooms which they shared between them two older boys in bunk beds and two younger girls in double bed. It was lovely and quiet and peaceful throughout our stay yet everything was close enough to enjoy. A 5-minute walk to the train station meant you could be in Barmouth (not worrying about parking etc) for a meal or beach day in 10 minutes. Its a beautiful train ride to Aberdovey or Pwhelli (approx 50 mins). A choice of Zip Worlds were within 40 mins drive from the property. The beautiful Nantcol waterfall walk was 15 mins drive away...there were walks galore locally. A good range range of Lovely restaurants and pubs are close by. Will definitely be back soon.

The owner was responsive to question throughout our stay. Although much in the area was shut as it was the off season, it was perfect for us! We will definitely book again!

  • "We loved our stay at Ty Uchaf."

It was a beautiful setting, cosy little cottage with many mod-cons, comfortable nights sleep and lovely countryside around and about, local to all amenities and even a £15 local store voucher to a very convenient, well stocked store with most of what you could possibly need in a store. The only reason we haven't given 5 stars is just because of a few minor things really and perhaps one concern, firstly the concern is that there is no fire escape except the main door which being beyond the fire place could be an issue but hopefully won't be although we realise there is a smoke alarm or two in the cottage. Now for the minor issues: Ideally there should be a manual for the oven in the manual folder, as it was we had a little trouble figuring it out but thankfully my husband managed to look it up on line; when we viewed the cottage on-line we did a check and read reviews and thought we wouldn't need certain things as most folks had said they had everything they needed there and we noticed in one of the photos there was a cafetier, however when we got to the cottage there was no cafetier but there was an excellent tea strainer and a nice large milk jug so we used that instead. The overall cottage was clean and looked after but we noticed things like the oven gloves cushion covers needed a good wash and were stained and both bathroom and kitchen floor areas hadn't been cleaned as well as they should be as well as greasy finger prints and on all the glasses and cups in the kitchen cupboards as well as various other cooking materials so we had to wash up a lot of things before we could use them. Perhaps checks like this could be carried out by the cleaners. Lastly the lighting in the kitchen I've the sink was a little poor as the new spot light lamps didn't seem to fit in the sockets and sadly as I have a medical condition I can't tolerate strip lighting. I can understand why the stip lighting and bright spot lights in lounge have been put in as maybe folks have felt the need for them in the past. We were just so grateful for the bedside lamps upstairs in all the rooms as it meant we could bring them down to give the kind of lighting that could work for us so thank you for those. As we say all told still a lovely cottage and would highly recommend. We had such a lovely stay ang were not expecting the cosy fireplace. I think that must bea new addition since the photos were taken. Loved it. Would definitely love to return one day. Such beautiful views from the upstairs bedrooms and a lovely view from the kitchen too. Thank you.

  • "Ty Uchaf is a great holiday cottage, in a lovely little village, in a great area."

The location is ideal, walking distance to a great beach. Short drive to Barmouth, and also near to great walking and mountain biking centre at Coed Y Brenin. You are within walking distance of a couple of pubs for evening meals. The cottage is as described, it provides comfortable accomodation. It is very suitable for 4 (it might be a bit of a squeeze for 6. I would think 4 adults and 2 younger children is probably the max to be really comfortable). Kitchen area and facilities are super. The beds are comfortable, as is the lounge furniture. Which is important after an active day. The secure storage for bikes etc is great, it's a real selling point for us. The patio area, although smallish, is very pleasant with the garden furniture. A great spot for a morning coffee or a drink in the evening. Robert, the owner, emails and sends really good friendly information on the cottage and area in advance of your stay, which is a great touch. The only slight downsides are that, there wasn't a DVD Player at the property, on this stay. It's not a biggy - but is a nice to have. The other thing is the cleanliness. The cottage is generally pretty clean when you arrive. But if you look too closely there are areas that could do with a really more deep clean, where dust has acqumilated etc. We are not massive clean freaks, and it doesn't really put us off, but I think it could affect some people's opinion of returning. Overall it's a lovely holiday cottage, which we have enjoyed and returned to - which says a lots. I would definitely recommend it.

The local shops stocked a wide range of goods and the pub was within walking distance, the food was delicious and reasonably priced.

We were a party of 3 young professionals who were working remotely while spending some time in Wales. The internet was fast and reliable - great for team calls and doing work. The cottage exceeded all the necessary amenities - kitchen was well supplied, the bath was great, and very handy to have a washer/dryer. The cottage itself was cosy and very warm, especially during the cold wintry nights. Bob was also very communicative and attentive, informing us of earlier check-ins and late check-outs, and making sure we had everything. Definitely recommend staying at the cottage.

The beaches are incredible, the mountains and waterfalls are incredible and Ty Uchaf itself is beautiful. The owners are very helpful and keep you up to date with anything you need to know before your holiday and the shop at the bottom of the hill and the Spar just up the road have everything you could possibly need throughout your stay. • "The cottage is ideally placed for sightseeing."

It is very quirky and cosy. The stairs are very narrow and quite steep. There were issues, tumble dryer not working and the towel rail, wood worm treatment needed. Considering the COVID regulation's I would expect a higher standard of cleanliness, upon lifting the sofa cushions there was a dirty knife and a lot of dirt. Surfaces were very dusty, and sticky. The parking is a little tricky, having to reverse from main busy road up a winding narrow lane, but there is alternative parking in the village. We had a very nice pleasant stay and would recommend once all issues sorted.

Given the comments from previous visitors surprised to learn of issue with cleanliness Have contacted local cleaner and there has been no change to cleaning protocol. The owner visited the cottage and met with agent from Peter Cox company, specialists in woodworm treatment. The single chair has been removed and the agent concluded after thorough check that there is no woodworm issue and once received, happy to forward report. Property Owner

  • "Ty Uchaf is the perfect base for exploring the surrounding area and in close touch with so many of the main sites of interest and nothing is too much of a drive to get to."

With our two young girls and their grandmother we headed north to the Welsh Highland Railway which took us through the mountains from Porthmadog to Caernarvon; on another day we headed south for a walk along Barmouth bridge. Since the late autumn weather was so kind to us, one day we decided to leave the car at the cottage and head through Dyffryn Holiday park to the beach and along the coast to Shell Island. Each day different and each spectacular. Ty Uchaf itself is a stunning, and not-so-little cottage: we were surprised with the space that it afforded. The large and modern kitchen is well-kitted out with modern appliances and plenty of utensils, pots, pans, plates and so forth. From here rises a double bedroom and children's twin room which were both pleasantly apportioned and decorated with plenty of storage space and lovely view over the village to the coast and peninsula beyond. The lounge is cosy and comfortable with stairs leading to the larger double bedroom replete with electric points, storage and hairdryer. The bathroom is modern, tidy and has both bath and shower. All towels and bedding are provided and we wanted for nothing other than food and wine. The proximity to the local Post Office - which is also an off-license, is very handy and there's also Spar fifty yards further down the main street with a more extensive stock. The locals are very welcoming and we had a very pleasant Halloween with the girls trick-or-treating around the little streets, followed by a spooky walk to the 6000 year old burial chamber on the outskirts of the village. Ty Uchaf is a little gem of a place; the process was simple and the owners were helpful yet unobtrusive. 100% recommended for a fantastic break in this wonderful part of the world and much more comfortable on the chilly nights than a caravan - and cheaper, too.
