  • "We found this a great weekend location for us for - we particularly enjoyed morning dog walks across the sand dunes to the beach."

The owners were friendly and helpful and we appreciated the welcome Welsh cakes. The cottage was large but also cosy and we were able to relax and recharge.

We are glad you enjoyed your weekend. Do return! Property Owner

  • "A lovely home from home but with spectacular scenic views."

A beautiful property, with everything we needed for a very enjoyable stay. We arrived a little later than planned and hadn't had time to pick up a few essentials, but there was a lovely welcome box, and milk in the fridge, which we really appreciated. We instantly felt very welcomed and relaxed. The beds were so comfortable - like sleeping on a fluffy cloud and so peaceful. We are grateful that the owner allowed us to expirience beautiful Bron Castell.

Thank you for this lovely review. You will always be very welcome at Bron Castell! Property Owner

  • "This is an honest account of Bron Castell, Harlech from someone who is a landlord so is used to providing property to people at high standards, and who also uses Sykes Cottages a few times every year, and has the benefit of comparing with similar priced properties - it's not a personal attack, but is meant for feedback & improvement."

When you first arrive (in 2 normal sized cars), you notice how tiny and cramped the parking is, only one car can leave at a time as the second gets blocked in. The parking area was not maintained, was overgrown and lacked any effort to making parking easier (unlike similar properties nearby who've put loose stone down to make it look nicer), this is not the case at Bron Castell. Consider removing the redundant bit of wall prohibiting better parking perhaps? Once in the house, there was no greeting - ie, no small food/drink stuffs that many other cottages provide as a welcome. There wasn't even a flower, a biscuit, Welsh cake, or even drop of milk for tea. Immediately whilst looking around, it was obvious there was no cupboards for dry food storage, nothing at all, so all our food sat out on the worktops and unit in the dining area. Whilst checking the cupboards, the integrated door to the washing machine fell off, and was a problem all week. It was obvious it was loose over a long period of time. The rooms were good size, but this really is just a 2 bed house, with a loft conversion (which is tiny in height - if you're an adult be prepared to spend your entire time in the loft ducking down), but the rooms looked well made up. I also didn't like that you can't use these loft rooms without paying extra!!! 8 People are who it's aimed at - that is a stretch!! The sitting room furniture, (much like all the furniture) is dated and passed it's best - The sofa's provided little cushioning, you just sink. I would really like to see some investment to bring this cottage back to it's former glory which I imagine was several years ago. Also, the Wifi was awful in the sitting room - kept dropping out all week. The garden was quite overgrown and made access through the rear gate tricky for an OAP - the stairs are extremely steep so beware. The house didn't feel particularly clean and hygienic, a huge cockroach/beetle walked across the table whilst we were having dinner one evening, it was the size of a spoon and freaked us all out! Also, the ensuite shower was quite a let down with a broken shower rail and mould around the base tray. The main bathroom again is dated, but was clean and functional. All in all, for nearly £1000 for a week in June I expected, and hoped for better. It was disappointing as the house looked lovely online, it does have fantastic views, but I feel that the owners either are not interested in improving it, or are waiting to get rid of it without investing in it, either way, if you look harder you'll find much better cottages for this price.

We are very upset with this review which we feel is completely unjustified on all accounts. The cupboard you refer to was not broken at the beginning of your stay, and your comment about the kitchen being 'unhygienic 'was probably due to the' leakage' from your own shopping that you informed me about upon your arrival. We always leave tea, coffee, milk etc and there is a cupboard and pantry available for your own food. The ' redundant wall' which you suggested we remove to allow for more parking, is essential to prevent vehicles crashing into our property and it will remain in place. We hope you find accommodation more to your liking in the future. Property Owner

  • "Most cottages I have stayed in I leave thinking 'that was nice' but would probably try somewhere different if I was in the area again."

Bron Castell is clearly an exception and it will be number one on my list if I come back to the Harlech area of North Wales again. The size of the accommodation is impressive and any larger group that took advantage of the additional accommodation in the eves would have plenty of room. They are not joking when they say the property is on a steep hill but its only a few hundred yards down to the main road or up to the castle. To have level parking in such an area is a real bonus and its reassuring not to have to worry about parking whatever time of day you choose to come and go. The quality of the WiFi was excellent and the cottage itself was very well equipped. The friendly owners were very proactive in resolving a minor issue that they let us know about by text on arrival and they also quickly resolved a wasp issue that we pointed out. The view over the bay out of the bedroom windows is fantastic. It probably helped that we were blessed with almost perfect weather but I have no hesitation in rating the stay 5 star

From the bedroom you can watch the sun go down over the sea with swaths of sand dunes in the foreground... magical! A short walk up the hill are two great restaurants. A great holiday.

  • "A lovely, comfortable place in a beautiful location."

The cottage was extremely well-equipped but there was no WiFi.! Some people want to get away from such things on holiday but, although we are in our late 70s and early 80s, we missed it a lot as we subscribe to, and download, our newspaper online so had to buy one! We also like to look up local information such as restaurants etc. We would probably not go back because of it, and it must be a negative for younger people! The other downsides were not being able to open the windows, due to secondary double glazing, and the fact that hand towels were not provided. However, apart from the above, a really nice cottage, and we felt very much at home. We forgot to leave a gratuity for the cleaner but arranged for a friend - who lives in the High Street - to drop one into Bron Castell’s’ post box with a note of thanks from us. June Taylor

Thank you for your feedback and glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Bron Castell. Wi fi is not currently available at the cottage - as was stated in the Sykes description- but there is a good phone signal in the area and usually 4G signal can be found. We are, however, looking to install WiFi in the next few weeks for the benefit of our guests. Plenty of towels are provided and we are sorry that you were unable to locate the hand towels. We are also sorry that you were unable to open all the windows. We are always happy to help guests with issues like this if only they would contact us during their stay. We are sure though that you found the stable door into the kitchen diner provided plenty of fresh air during the hot summer days . We hope that we can welcome you back to Bron Castell in the future. We felt very comfortable and found the home very warm and cosy. We loved sitting with a mug of coffee in the garden watching the sun go down, looking out towards the golf course and sand dunes. We loved walking down to harlech beach with our dog, it's such a beautiful beach. And it was an easy drive to snowdonia Criccieth Porthmadog and portmeirion. We would recommend and would stay again.

  • "We had a fantastic few days at Bron Castell."

The cottage is a lovely spacious accommodation in a fantastic location in the centre of Harlech. We must say the listing doesn’t quite do justice to how amazing the views are from the cottage - breathtaking scenery of the coast, golf course and castle. It was perfect for us with young babies - lots of space and great for a couple of nights of either cooking on the Rayburn or getting a takeaway. The owner was very helpful and we just wished we had booked an extra couple of nights! We would highly recommend and would love to stay again in the future. A real gem.

The location was superb - couldn't have been better, 10 mins walk from beach, and just below castle in the middle of town. Perfect. Nice cafes close by. A coffee pot / French press would have been nice There was no internet, and we were not made aware of this before arrival.

  • "Bron Castell is a beautiful house in a superb location."

It is well equipped and comfortable. I made the stupid mistake of closing the Yale locked door with the keys and all my possessions inside. I was extremely grateful to the Menai representative who found a solution and to the other representative who drive several miles to get a spare set of keys for us. Please thank them both on our behalf. I would suggest, however, that it might be sensible to pay the Castle gift shop to hold a spare set, along with the keys for the Castle apartments, just in case any other guests get carried away with the beauty of sitting up on the little lawn looking out over the rolling dunes and the sparkling sea and rushes out of the back door without stopping to put on the latch!

  • "This was an excellent house for our family of 8."

It has great character and is beautifully and comfortably furnished. It's up a steep hill leading to the castle, but only 10 minutes walk from the beach. It has a Raeburn, but it wasn't too complicated to use. We found everything we needed in the village, and particularly enjoyed our early morning reads with coffee in the little garden, with lovely views. Angela, the warden, was very kind and helpful.

  • "Lovely cottage with fantastic views."

Whilst the nitty gritty was quite specific regarding the steep steps to the garden - parking could be an issue for some visitors. We had 2 4 x 4 but managed (just) to park in the space provided. Bigger cars may have had an issue here. Also the outside street light on the house was annoying.
