The bungalow was clean and modern, and warm when we arrived. The seaview from the Lounge was really nice. Furniture was comfortable. Double bed was very comfortable. Kitchen was clean and had everything we needed. Bathroom was clean and well appointed. The drive was good to park the car and the gardens front and back were dog friendly. Wifi was very good too. The location for us was excellent, we love the castle and the beach at Harlech, and we always visit Barmouth and Criccieth. Well worth the price we paid. Couple of constructive criticisms, the TV could do with updating, include Netflix possibly. I would also use "what3words" to guide customers to the property, it's always a lot more accurate than a post code.

Ideal for exploring the area, relaxing, local walks or just enjoying the view. The pretty garden is fully enclosed so was ideal for our small dog, although would benefit from some comfortable garden furniture. Unfortunately, we noticed there were two large cracks in the bedroom window that we assumed were awaiting repair, this was a bit concerning as the bedhead is positioned underneath the window. Also, the TV signal was dreadful, we were only able to access the BBC channels. Despite the few ‘niggles’ we really enjoyed our week.

In the double bedroom there were 2 large cracks the full length of the window with tape over them. Need dealing with asap as the window is directly over the bed head. We did enjoy our stay apart from the television.

  • "We normally come to Llandanwg in our little caravan so know the area well."

We had not been away for ages due to Covid so thought that as things had settled down a lot we would have a last minute week away walking so looked for somewhere to stay We found Sykes Cottages had a few places to stay in the area but thought that for Location, price and size Goetra would be ideal for us. The booking process was faultless from start to finish and we received all the required information in several emails. We have never used Sykes before but would not hesitate to do so in the future. On arrival we found that Goetra was ready and waiting for us. We were able to park easily on the property and close the gates so the car was safe and sound. The property was spotless and had obviously been cleaned very well. The beds had fresh clean linen and there were plentiful supplies of good quality towels and tea towels etc. It was easy to warm up and regulate the bungalow by the thermostat and we were snug and cosy for our January visit. There was a plentiful supply of hot water for washing pots in the well supplied kitchen and there was no problem filling the corner bath and the electric shower. We took food with us and used the oven and microwave and the upright fridge freezer was a good size and again spotlessly clean as were all the crockery in the cupboards. There was also a washing machine in the kitchen but we didn't need to use it. The conservatory is nice and bright and would be a great place to sit in the summer but we didn't get chance to use it as we were out walking and it was dark at 5pmish. The views from the garden out to sea and the Llyn Peninsula are stunning and the sound of the sea from the garden was lovely. The sun sets out back are beautiful. There is no direct access to the beach from Goetra but it is only a few minutes walk down to Llandanwg beach and the beautiful old St Tanwg Church nestled in the dunes. In season there is a nice little beach cafe but as expected out of season it was closed. There are lots of walks from Goetra without having to use the car and it's easy to get the train from the little station a few minutes walk away. The trains only stop "on demand" so get ready to give them a wave. The trains do run in a cutting at the back of the property but they are all going slow and barely audible and were absolutely no issue. There is a little private airfield across the estuary which in season is used for light aircraft but its never bothered us in our caravan and we have actually been on one of their one hour pleasure flights which we thoroughly recommend. There are mini market shops/butchers/garages in Harlech and Dyffryn a few miles away with a bigger co-op in Barmouth and Tesco and Aldi in Porthmadog around 12 miles coastal drive away. The walking in the area is simply stunning varying from low level beach walks to rugged remote days in the Rhinogydd range which can be seen from Goetra. We would highly recommend the walks to Foel Senigl and Moel Goedog on the high road above Harlech with stunning 360 degree views, standing stones, stone circles, burial cairns and a Hill Fort. The amazing remote Bronze age stone circle of Bryn Cader Faner (Google it) can also be reached along the ancient trackway from Llanfair and is highly recommended. As you can see we had a lovely week at Goetra. We were in a lovely location, warm, comfortable, slept soundly in a very comfortable bed and felt very safe and would definitely stay here again when it's out of season for our caravan. The only thing I would say, which is not meant as a criticism is that you have to walk across the grass entering the property which in winter was wet etc. We ALWAYS removed our shoes in the enclosed porch and went into the house in our slippers so as not to soil the clean pale coloured carpets. A row of pavers or shingle may save your carpets from less considerate visitors or those with dogs as this the only entrance for the property. Thanks to Lisa for checking up on us and all the best from Glyn & Ann after a great week away in Goetra (if you hadn't have been booked the following week we would have stayed) xx

Thank you so much for this great review. We are pleased that you enjoyed your week with us.Your suggestions has been taken on board and we are looking for someone to lay paving for us from the gate to porch steps and along by bin store.Hopefully done soon. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay."

Cottage was immaculate, whoever looks after it obviously takes great pride in what they do. Location is great, the beach at the bottom of the road is beautiful and my husband got some fishing in. Barmouth is close by and was a nice day out, lots still open even though off peek. Two very small points that did not affect our holiday but something for other people to consider; there is no path to the front door and the grass was wet when we visited so had to be careful with muddy feet and the dog. There was cleaning fluids and tablets in a cupboard accessible to children. We just moved them to a higher cupboard out of reach of our two year old. We would definitely stay again and it has made us very interested in the area for future holidays.

Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback.Your suggestions have been most helpful and we will take them on board for next season,as this is our first full year undertaking a holiday let all suggestions have been most welcome. We look forward to welcoming you to Goetra again. Property Owner

Beach 3 minutes by car, stretches from opposite Portmerion in the north to Barmouth in the south, with a few detours. In winter Harlech has little apart from the castle and its cafe, which are great, and a small Premier shop- use supermarkets in Portmadoc, fish and chips in Barmouth. The oven packed up, but there was a good microwave, and as we live in West Wales ourselves, we know tradesmen are flat out this time of year and difficult to get quickly, and slow broadband and dodgy phone signals are normal in all country areas. Great stay, fabulous sunsets, and charming owners to help you.
