Lovely welcome cakes on arrival. Lots of cleaning products and toiletries provided. Beds were comfortable. Located on a main road so care needs to be taken when crossing the road. I would not describe the garden as being secure. The garden and next doors garden are accessible using the same steps (which are quite steep for our elderly dogs) allowing the dogs to access the neighbours garden. The path runs along the back of all the houses and there is a small gate at the entrance which was regularly left open. The other end of the path is secure but dogs can disappear out of sight. The garden is also at a higher level with a small wall which if dog is young and active could easily escape from the garden and straight on to main road. The garden is the only downside and having 2 older dogs I would not let this stop me booking again.

The property

This pretty stone terraced cottage, set elevated above the road, provides distant views across the river valley and beyond on the edge of the little village of Llanelwedd, home of the Royal Welsh Showground which has a calendar of annual events, and just a stone’s throw from the hugely popular market town of Builth Wells.

The cottage benefits from modern provisions and facilities, but boasts the quirky traditional effects.

This cottage is a perfect base for friends and family looking to explore the fantastic countryside surrounding the area and with close proximity to the showground with its annual events.

Set over two floors, there are two spacious but cosy bedrooms and a family bathroom on a split level first floor.

There is a roomy well-equipped modern kitchen leading onto a large living area with a dining area and a comfortable sitting area, perfect for curling up in front of the woodburner.

The property offers plenty of space and includes a small conservatory, ideal for relaxing with a good book, a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine.

Outside to the rear, there is a slightly raised patio and lawned area where you can listen to the rustle of the trees that rise away up the hill as well as a garden shed suitable to store bicycles during your stay.

Beyond the formal garden is a terraced area offering pleasant views over the surrounding countryside.

To the front is a small lawned garden with a floral border providing a seating area to take in the distant views, enjoy the sunshine or just simply relax.

Builth Wells is an ancient market town sitting on the meandering River Wye and is home to a great selection of local shops and popular pubs and restaurants.

The River Wye opens up opportunities for fishing or fabulous riverside walks.

The Spa town of Llandrindod Wells is just over a ten minute drive away and is a well-known centre for cycling, or alternatively you can enjoy a round of golf there.

There is a variety of outdoor activities in the area with fantastic wildlife watching opportunities, fabulous walking and cycling trails, pony trekking, kayaking and several golf courses, one being in Builth Wells itself.

There is a footpath leading from the rear of the cottage into the Quarry and beyond.

You are perfectly situated to explore the fabulous Cambrian Mountains where you can visit the impressive network of Victorian dams and reservoirs of the Elan Valley and also take the opportunity to watch the majestic spectacle of the Red Kites being fed.

To the south is the Little Town of Books, a literary haven at Hay-on-Wye and a perfect gateway to the Brecon Beacons National Park.

The location of the cottage also allows you to access the popular locations such as Cardiff, Hereford, Llandovery and Carmarthen, which are all within a reasonable distance away.

This cottage is surrounded by fantastic countryside and great days out and can be enjoyed at any time of the year.

The possibilities are endless, therefore make sure you come and explore.
