  • "We stayed there for two nights."

Absolutely amazing area, very quiet and chilly. Loved the hot tub and enjoyed every minute of it. My partner proposed to me in this cabin so it will remain in our souls forever. The place is amazing, very rustic with everything inside, you don’t need to bring anything. It was a bit chilly inside but so it was outside so it makes sense. We will definitely return here probs in out honeymoon, absolutely amazing landlords going above and beyond. I don’t have enough words to recommend it.

It is well maintained and had everything we needed. The only suggestion I can make is that possibly the slate steps could do with a power wash or grit to be provided. As over time they have become slippery once wet. Our host were very kind and accommodating. We can not wait to return.

I asked for enclosed garden once booked it said check boundaries !! The garden was no way enclosed and open to a main road and fields open at the side. The cooker was filthy no heating . The hot tub didn’t work and wasn’t particularly clean and amenities ie pubs and town were mainly closed due to the financial crisis. Struggled to do anything really . The mill itself was a lovely setting but not a true description of what we thought was going to be a nice break

  • "The Old Mill was just as described in Sykes write up."

We were disappointed with a few things though. There was thick dust noticeable on mirrors, tops of taps, window sills, cooker hood and general surfaces. The oven was filthy which we cleaned as best we could before we used it. The kitchen floor was sticky so we mopped it. Flies were a problem and we were constantly using fly spray to keep the population down, maybe an electronic fly killer would be a long term solution. I know in the countryside fly's can be a problem but solutions are available to combat the issue. The wifi was very patchy and dropped out alot. The hot tub was welcoming but only half the jets were working, so not as good as it could have been. This is a lovely place to stay, central to many visitor attractions. We would return to the Old Mill but if we found any issues we would inform the owner straight away which we didn't this time.

Good evening Jane. We are sorry your stay wasn't completely satisfactory. We are happy to be contacted 24/7 with any problems regarding the holiday let, and would've happily rectfied the issues you have raised. We are glad you enjoyed the area and would welcome your return to the Old Mill. We would always encourage our guests to contact us if they encounter any problems. Property Owner

  • "Had a wonderful stay at The Old Mill, the house was absolutely beautiful."

The garden and stream were perfect for the dogs and children and the hot tub was exactly what everybody needed after a long day exploring. The house was extremely well equipped with everything you needed in the kitchen and games and DVDs. The only negatives were the loud floors, which made sneaking around the childrens rooms difficult without waking them. The broadband was slow and unreliable (although it was a welcome break from technology) the kitchen could have done with some more children's plates and cutlery. All of this was very minor however, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again.

  • "We had a lovely stay at The Old Mill."

Had all the comforts of home and the barn itself was set out nicely. Peaceful and quiet area with beautiful walks and a lovely stream at the end of the garden where the kids enjoyed playing. The downside was that there is absolutely no phone signal and the wifi didn’t work so we had a bit of an issue in that regard. We were offered the neighbours wifi but that didn’t work too. The highlight was the hot tub. Nice that it’s under cover so that it can used even if the weather is bad. Lots of towels and bed linen provided which was great. Kids enjoyed the board games. David, the owner was very welcoming and stopped by to check in on us. Lovely host. We won’t hesitate to go back again.

It was well equipped, the hot tub was really relaxing and the surrounding area was stunning. The area is quite remote, the nearest shop is around 15 minutes drive and any attractions are from 30 minutes to 2 hour drives. The only downside to this property is the internet is very slow and drops out alot. Even though we only used it to check opening times and best directions to places to visit (as we found that the leaflets for these places that were left in the cottage were out of date and had changed alot) it did cause some issues. Other than that, lovely place to visit.

Hot tub is brilliant with spectacular sightings of many birds of prey.Flys were an issue this year, probably because of the warm weather and being so close to a farm. • "We have just returned from a week long holiday at The Old Mill and we had an awesome time."

The Mill is set back from the main road in a very beautiful rural setting. The accommodation is a real home away from home - very roomy and well equipped with everything one needs (and more) for a comfortable break. We holidayed with 3 adults and 4 children and there was plenty of room. The children loved exploring the garden and stream - there is also a gate leading into the woods which takes you on a walk. We also loved the hot tub after a long day out sight seeing! Llandrindod Wells is a 15 min drive away with a large Tesco - I registered for delivery and pre-ordered my shopping to arrive at the Mill on day 1. There's also a great real ale micropub ‘Arvon Ales’, ‘Zeera’ Indian restaurant and a BBQ restaurant ‘Worth Your Salt Barbecue’ that are worth visiting! There is so much to do in the area that we wished we could have stayed another week - the Red Kite Feeding Station in Rhayader is a must. Hay-on-wye is 45 mins away, Aberystwyth is a little over an hour and has a great Victorian cliff railway, and the Elan Valley if you fancy stretching your legs as there are loads of walks around the hillside and dams. Overall I would definitely recommend The Old Mill for a peaceful relaxing holiday and will definitely consider booking again.

  • "The house was laid out a little strange."

The main sitting area was on the first floor which backs onto the double room for kids. Needless to say this was not used much by the adults at night as we would have kept a the kids awake watching tv or having the tv on. I constantly hit my head on low beams in the top floor as I am 6ft 2 and needed to keep reminding myself to duck under these. The house was constantly full of flies, on the last day I counted some 50 on one fly paper trap we had set up the day before, sadly they were coming in internally as we kep the windows and doors shut for the day. I feel the owner would know about this as flypaper and sprays have been left by other customers. Wifi was poor which was disappointing as this is a basic requirement. The kids enjoyed themselves here, I had a great holiday, sadly I felt it was overpriced for the issues I have outlined above. However, it’s classed as a luxury property-that’s why my expectations were high. 6 out of 10.

The cottage is (almost) at the end of a long drive and there was no noticeable noise from the main road, even when outside. It was very refreshing to find a place where every member of our family was comfortable, including our two dogs. It was delightful to sit in the hot tub in the cool autumn evenings with a glass of locally pressed fruit juice to hand. We will happily recommend this cottage to those who want an “away from it all” holiday - it’s quite a drive to even the nearest convenience store and there are no take-aways anywhere close but this was perfect for us. It’s a central location for a lot of interesting places which are around an hour’s drive away (we visited Aberystwyth, Hereford, Hay-on-Wye and Brecon) whilst still having interesting walks close by. We’ll be coming back soon.

Continue through to the outstanding open planned living area with a kitchen, dining area and a sitting area, excellently-equipped with an American-style fridge/freezer, a Rangemaster cooker and an oak dining table with enough space for the whole party to enjoy as delicious meal.

The French doors lead out onto the side garden, ideal for some alfresco dining whilst the corner leather sofa is perfect for relaxing on whilst the chef in the party prepares a delicious meal.

This room is made warm and cosy by the underfloor electric heating, complete with zoned controls.
