"We throughly enjoyed our stay for a base, lovely area and great walks."
Although it wasn’t clean in the cupboards in the kitchen, and there was mold and damp in both the bedrooms.
We complained that there was no heating in the bedroom, this did get rectified once we complained again later in the week.
No signal from any of the 4 networks. This applies to the entire village according to local residents. TV with freeview intermittent due to numerous Co-Axial cables (some dead ends too) littering the floor adjacent to the TV if any movement of the many cables present, the signal was immediately lost. List showed Microwave but was not present. Informed Mr Williams of the New Inn (key holder) of this who supplied a microwave soon after. Tiny rear garden & full of weeds, quite disappointed. Twin bedded room had large damp patches across the ceiling. Property needs to be refurbished. No problems parking in the free car park opposite. New Inn pub almost adjacent had very good menu. Food very good (freshly cooked and plenty of choice) but very expensive for a local village pub. Staff helpful and very friendly. Plenty of choice in drinks too (not too expensive).
"Very enjoyable stay although property could definitely do with a bit of “ tarting up!"
” As paintwork around bath / basin looked a bit sad also two patches of paintwork off on single bedroom ceiling
Luckily we had taken some toilet rolls as only half a roll left for us!! I would have thought that should be part of the basics especially as it sleeps 4 and no shop in the village if we hadn’t brought any would have had to resort to leaves!!! Ha we couldn’t get the tv to work and when we eventually did it wouldn’t switch off. Only by unplugging from wall had you had children to entertain might have been an issue? We did enjoy our stay and very friendly people in the pub opposite which I think is something to do with the hiring side of cottages. So yes would return but would like to give it a spruce up and poor little garden was a bit overgrown so nowhere to sit out. So hopefully not all negative feedback but certain areas could be improved
"We enjoyed our stay at Gloucester House, the area around Llangynog is stunning and is ideal for walking."
The cottage is in a perfect location very close to the New Inn which serves good food. The overall impression of the property is that it is a work in progress. It has the potential to be wonderful, the ground floor area containing the lounge and kitchen has been furnished to a superb standard but the bedrooms and bathroom are in need of a little attention.
"Only one pub in the village with fairly poor catering"
"We had a lovely stay, great base for exploring with everything we needed close by."
After reading the reviews, we took a frying pan, so thank you to the previous reviewer. Previous feedback was taken into account as there is a new cooker and lounge furniture which was great. Echo the previous feedback, everyone was helpful and friendly. With the pub over the road was a highlight for the girls with their puddings and pool table.
"Considering that the pandemic is still around, the expectation was to find the property absolutely clean, but this wasn't the case."
The carpets were quite dusty and the surfaces hadn't been wiped prior to our arrival. Otherwise it's a lovely property which just needed attention.
"We had a lovely few days at Gloucester house, Llangynog was very central for visiting Lake Vyrnwy, Pistyll Rhaeadr and slightly longer trip to Snowdon."
Very nice pub straight across the road and plenty of free parking opposite cottage.
The cottage was comfortable, well equipped and spotlessly clean. Only fault we could pick was no frying pan and the range cooker only had one oven that worked but the door didn’t shut properly.
"The cottage was clean, comfortable, quick to heat up and plenty of hot water."
It's situated in a beautiful part of Wales which was an added bonus.
"Great break away."
Lovely walking in the hills around the village and Lake Vyrnwy and Bala not too far away. Ate at the nearby pub and people very friendly. Decent food too!
All in all we were both very satisfied!
Diolch yn fawr!
"The cottage has everything you need but could be so much nicer ,it’s in need of a bit of TLC down stairs the upstairs is nice and fresh."
The garden is small and you can’t sit out it’s just full of plants and stuff it needs clearing out and leaving blank so it can be used.
Over all the cottage was clean and tidy and we enjoyed our stay there is no phone signal at all and we relied on WiFi which stopped working at one point but the owner reset the router which is on the cottage next door.
"Its alle about how high your expectations are."
The house is comfortable and clean. The "garden" is small, (but we didn't come to Wales to sit in the garden.). Aan excellent place to start explore the mountains. We had an good time.
"On arrival all went well we collected the key from the local pub and made our way to the cottage, the cottage had a For Sale sign outside, on entering all looked tidy but on closer examination we found the furniture to be of a poor standard with a tear at the seam on one settee and the other white leather settee could have done with a good clean."
The dining chairs were all stained on the seat base, on the double oven one did not work and the other the door would not close correctly, the fridge door scraped along the floor when you opened it, the paint on the walls was marked and could have done with repainting and no curtain or blind on the bathroom window.
We then enterred the garden which was very overgrown, the path to the seating area was obstructed by large stones which appeard to be holding up the screening for the Oil Tank, the bench seat was broken and the area had a smell of heating oil, it was not a place to sit and enjoy. The beds were clean as were the towels.
We had booked for 7 nights but left after the 2nd night, we were very disapointed, I have contacted Sykes requesting a refund but todate no response.
I have no doubt in its day this has been a nice cottage however it needs a full refurb to bring up to the standard you would expect, previous feedback in Sept 18 mentioned many of the items I have mentioned and have not been rectified.
"Lovely walks around the village, but not very well sign posted as to which way to go from the village centre itself"
"Very nice, comfortable and spacious cottage in a lovely location."
"Every thing ,it was great"
"Lovely cottage does need a little TCL but it was clean and comfortable and local pubs were great"
"Garden was unusable."
No wood burner in lounge as listed. General condition of cottage was tatty. Comments listed in Visitors Book hadn't been addressed. Bed was on a slope so we had to sleep with our heads at the bottom end of bed. No curtain across front door so lacking any "cosy" feel to downstairs. So many other details that add up, to leave a feeling of regret at booking this cottage. It is a shame that either Sykes or the owners of this potentially delightful cottage don't seem to care about their customers.
I am sorry to hear you experienced a number of issues during your stay at the cottage.
We want you to have all advertised facilities on our website and we strive on having exceptional property standards in all Sykes’ properties.
We will investigate the issues with the property owner to establish why our service has fell short on this occasion.

If you would to discuss this further, our lines are open 7 days a week from 9am until 7pm. Property Owner
"The cottage is in a fabulous location and lots to do nearby with some fantastic views and countryside."
The cottage would really benefit from some basic updating and a washing machine would be a welcome addition. The garden area really lets the cottage down ....especially when people can take dogs to it. It wouldn’t take a lot to make this a really lovely cottage.
"Unfortunately there was an oil leak from the tank to the boiler outside the back door so had to deal with plumbers for 2 occasions the smell was horrendous and meant we could not let our dog in the garden which was not very accessible anyway due to layout and very overgrown."
I suspect the leak had been going on awhile so could have been sorted before our arrival. Also no wi fi as advertised. Apart from that lovely cottage . Beautiful surroundings.
Friendly village. Great pub food

The cottage is lovely and the village is lovely but there is no internet as advertised as having internet, very disappointed as i needed it for work also no phone signal in the cottage so we had to leave a day early, we also went all day Saturday with no hot water until we worked out it was turned off on the control, managed to turn it on, shame as the cottage was lovely just silly things that caused a lot of trouble for us,
"Lovely cottage set in quiet village
Lovely cottage set in quiet village

Lovely welcome pack on arrival
New inn pub across the road gorgeous food
"Great location, friendly locals, great pub and views outstanding"
"What a beautiful cottage well worth the money comfortable clean was left bread etc which was lovely touch."
. Beautiful scenery great local pubs.. we had a brilliant holiday would definitely go again highly recommended
"Fantastic location, spotlessly clean, well equipped."
A short stroll gets you to the pub where the food is great and there is no need to cook. Great base to explore Snowdonia.
"This property was a true home away from home, we wanted somewhere close to snowdon mountain train ride but there was no accommodation in our budget, this was a little far from snowdon (1 :50 hrs ) but lovey journey with beautiful views."
The property was warm, and had wifi, but no phone signal (so a true break from everyday life). We watched movies, went for walks, shower was excellent, beds were comfortable and warm, and The pub across the street had excellent food. Though we did have coffee /tea and breakfast at accommodation, they had thoughtfully provided, necessary conveniences needed to make breakfast. I love this cottage. I would highly recommend it and the area.
"The cottage was fabulous and really friendly people"
"Lovely little cottage in great place everything you could need though could do with a refurb, the furniture was marked and old looking as well as the bathroom and the walls and paintwork just little things but with so much competition around this would make a huge difference."
"Great place to stay."
We will definitely go again at some point.
"A well equipped cottage in a beautiful setting."
"Beautiful views, well equipped cottage, an ideal location for walks and within driving distance to most places of Interest."
All in all very happy and would recommend the cottage and location.
""Exceptionally clean and tidy but also very comfortable and homely."
The house was very thoughtfully equipped."
"Cottage was cosy and to a good standard."
We enjoyed ourselves.
"Gloucester House was clean and very welcoming and equipped with all the essentials including a very lovely touch of fresh bread, milk and bottle of wine!"
The New Inn pub across the road is welcoming with friendly/helpful staff.
