  House stayed warm even in sub-zero temps. Lovely enclosed garden, plenty of parking just up on main road. Cleaners booked to come every week, owner friendly and easy to contact. All necessary info provided. Large walk in/ shower, well equipped kitchen. Great location for coast walks with shop post office just round corner.

  Stayed warm even in below-freezing temps. All mod cons included. Lovely enclosed garden - we stayed Nov/Dec so didn’t get to use it much - looks brilliant for the summer. Cleaners booked to come in once a week - place was well-cared for and made the most of the space. Host easy to contact and helpful. Great spot just off main road.

• "A compact cottage just off the main road, but quiet enough - well placed for exploring the Ceredigion coastline."

  Nice walks from cottage to the local, quiet and dog-friendly beach. Accommodation was clean, but stair handrails were 'sticky' and kitchen cupboards needed wiping before use. Lawn was very overgrown in garden. We noted that previous 'review' suggestions for safety had not yet been addressed by the owner i.e. the first floor bathroom window still opens wide to the patio below - dangerous for small children. The tight, twisted staircase is made of slippery, polished wood and on the last day, my husband slipped and fell top to bottom down the stairs as he was carefully bringing a suitcase downstairs (the stairs need anti-slip grip tape). Luckily, he was only bruised. It would be great if these hazards could be addressed.

  Thank you for your comments on the location of Eiddwen and the beautiful walks to the beach. The only opportunity to mow the lawn is a few hours on a Saturday and the weather has been so wet that it has not been possible to cut the lawn for several weeks. Hence the grass is longer than it should be. There is a similar problem with maintenance. However a workman will be carrying out several maintenance tasks on a free weekend in September. There is no need to be concerned about the safety of children as none are booked before the weekend of maintenance. Property Owner

• "Lovely little cottage exactly half a mile walk to the pebble beach."

  Crockery etc was good and cottage well stocked. As described the stairs are a challenge. My husband is 6ft 3 in’s tall so he did hit his head a few times! The front door and stairs are quite low!! We enjoyed our stay and the local walk, friendly people. Great place to explore Aberaeron and Aberystwyth and New. Quay was great.

• "We found about a dozen 2-3mm glass shards on the living room floor."

  This was concerning as they threatened to get embedded in our dog’s paws. The old vacuum cleaner was unusable as it did not suck, probably as it was already full of dust, fibres and debris. The bathroom window on the first floor will not latch properly and a child leaning against it (thinking it was shut tight) could easily fall out of the building and injure themselves severely on the patio outside. This is a most very worrying defect. The bed fastenings are loose. They each need about ten half turns with an Allen key to secure. The stairs are a slip hazard which could be resolved with carpet strips on each step. It is a charming cottage in excellent decorative order. The location is good and the appliances - with the exception of the vacuum cleaner - are easy to use. The living room needed rearranging for comfort and ease of use. The garden lawn needs cutting. Overall we enjoyed our stay but the above defects need attention, above all the bathroom window as the handle does not engage with the latching mechanism and is dangerous.

• "A great base to explore Ceredigion and all that it offers."

  Remember this is not a new build but around 200 years old with a windy tight staircase which is fine if you pay attention to what you are doing (I'm 65). Having said that there is everything you need.

• "This property is ideal for dog owners, as it is just a few steps from various footpaths leading to the ( stony ) beach and the coastal path."

  The village has an excellent shop, a thriving pub and quality fish and chip shop. The property itself was clean and tidy, with the only issue being a lack a of parking space. There is room to unload, but the road outside is quite busy so we chose not to leave the car there, instead parking for free at the village hall, about 500 yards away.

• "We had a lovely week at the cottage with our two DDBs."

  Close to the beach, pub (take away food excellent), chippy, and shop. Lovely walks with the dogs. Very friendly locals. Cottage was warm and cosy and enclosed garden was a sun trap. All facilities you would expect are available and in good order. The front door worked fine and car parking was as stated but easily manageable. Bed very comfortable. Cottage had tons of character and owner had gone to the trouble of providing some details in the info book. Excellent value, would definitely consider staying here again if visiting this beautiful part of Wales in the future.

• "Had 3 major issues with this cottage , 1) Parking or lack of , impossibly narrow road/track leads past the cottage and there is nowhere to park safely nearby."

  2) lack of freezer space , really do need a decent freezer capacity when self catering. 3) Fly infestation all the windows and sills had large numbers of small flies , they were also on the bedding and bedroom ceiling . I had to purchase fly killer spray at the local shop and did my best to eliminate them. Besides the above the bathroom is very dated and needs a complete refurb. However I liked some aspects of the cottage like the stone floors downstairs and the broad wooden floor boards upstairs and at the ptice I paid it was overall good VFM. I wouldn`t book again and would find it difficult to give it an unreserved recommendation to others.

  It’s unfortunate that the extremely wet weather deprived you of the many advantages of staying at Eiddwen. The beach is very close, the small road outside is the Welsh Coastal Path and the back garden is delightful in warm weather. I appreciate your comments on the floorboards upstairs and the stone floor in the living room. It has been hard work to take them back to the original look of the cottage. I shall also include the stone grate as this was also covered in thick paint. The kitchen has spaces for three facilities. The decision was made to install a dishwasher, a washing machine and a refrigerator with an ice box. This decision was influenced by the amenities in the village. There is a shop that sells vegetables, a butcher for fresh meat, a fish and chip shop and a pub that provides food. The shop also sells frozen food for those that enjoy an instant meal and there is a microwave in the cottage. (UPDATE: a fridge/freezer has been installed). The drive is not large. A guest did park a Suzuki Alto there but this is a very small car. I have given the parking options in the WELCOME booklet. The main road through the village has no parking restrictions, there is a free car park in the centre of the village or a small car can be parked on the road outside the cottage. It needs to be close to the drive so that the car door opens into the drive. I can inform all future guests that the fly problem has been identified and solved. The cleaners inadvertently left the mop and bucket on the landing after cleaning the floors and this was the source of the problem. The mop will not be left in the cottage in future. It is regrettable that I was not informed of this problem as I would have diagnosed it immediately. A new feature is the log burner in the Summer House. It does mean that a summer barbeque can continue if the evening gets cool. However I appreciate that last week it would only have given a different view of the rain. Property Owner

• "We loved our stay in this cosy cottage and have already booked for next year!"

  We're very familiar with the village and surrounding area but this was our first time at Eiddwen.We were a bit dismayed about parking but when we sussed out parking close-in across the top of the driveway, as described in the guide, we were fine. Everything else was good- comfortable, quiet and warm. We had no problems with the front door (just lift the handle up firmly before turning the key and it's fine!) We're really looking forward to coming back- and spending more time in the garden in warmer weather..

• "Lovely property, had everything you would need for a stay and in a great location."

  Being able to use the front door and not just the back would have been quite useful though. Read the folder thoroughly and tried it several times according to instructions. Think it's stuck and not just temperamental.

There are instructions in the property for opening the door which needs a specific technique; the key turns clockwise whilst the handle needs to be turned anti-clockwise; we are sorry you found this to be an issue. • "Pretty cottage, full of character in ideal location."

  Beds very comfortable and kitchen very well appointed. Nice private garden and very safe for our dog (young labrador). Summer house much liked by our autistic son, although could do with a bit of maintenance/decoration along with very weathered decking. Managed to park (just) on bit of waste ground on opposite side of street to garage. There was no non-slip mat in the shower which made it a bit lethal. No fault of owner obviously, but there was no rubbish collection during our stay (due to Jubilee Bank Holiday). Owing to policy of local Council (3-weekly collections (!!!) there was already considerable rubbish from previous occupant(s) so we had sympathy for occupants after us. The only spare bin bags provided were the clear ones for re-cyclable waste so had to use those for general rubbish when the one black bag was filled.

• "We’ve just come home from a lovely week in Eiddwen: such a cosy quiet cottage in a really convenient position."

  Our two old dogs loved all the footpaths from the door and wandering around the garden. We’ll definitely put this one on our’ go back to’ list .

• "A lovely cosy and very comfortable cottage."

  The cottage is dog friendly but on arrival the owners request dogs are not allowed upstairs. This information should be on the listing? However the garden is dog friendly and will be an absolute asset in warm weather to enjoy. Recommend this cottage, a lovely part of Wales.

• "The cottage was well equipped and a great location to base our holiday."

  It was very clean and peaceful. The pub in the village does great value for money meals. Would recommend a washing line outside and we were looking forward to a fire at night outside but sadly the Chiminera was locked in the shed.

  Thank you so much for your feedback, we're really glad you enjoyed your stay. There is a clothes maiden in the property which can be used inside or outside. Unfortunately the leg on the chiminea broke when it was being moved the day before you arrived, hence the reason for putting it in the shed. It has since been replaced with a cast iron stove with a chimney. The stove is much better than the chiminea as the smoke is now vented through the roof. We hope to see you again so you can make use of it. NB A new fence has now replaced the old one in the back garden. Property Owner
