  • "Lovely cosy accommodation, the welcome gifts of brownies, milk, eggs, bread and butter were greatly appreciated."

The setting is fabulous with excellent views and the visiting birds were great to watch. It is set in a good location to easily explore the many tourist attractions around. The hosts Ian and Jane were very helpful and would recommend this property for short breaks.

  • "We have just spent a most enjoyable week at The Old Beams."

The cottage is so comfortable and has everything you need and the owners Jane and Ian are very friendly and helpful, if there's anything you need you only have to ask. It's lovely to sit and watch all the wild birds on the feeder and there's even a visiting pheasant or two. They also have 3 Jacob sheep in a field which come up to the fence to have their heads stroked. It's so quiet and peaceful and at night there's no light pollution so the millions of stars can be seen quite easily. For anyone looking for a restful holiday away from the hustle and bustle of life this place is a little bit of paradise and we will definitely be returning.

  • "What a find!"

We've just returned from a weeks stay at this beautiful cottage. The hosts, Ian and Jane are very friendly and helpful. They are very busy people but will always take time to answer any questions we had. The setting is fantastic with wonderful views of the Welsh countryside. There are animals on site, some rare breed Jacobs Sheep a couple of pigs and some chickens and ducks. The wildlife in the area, especially the bird life, is plentiful and is great to sit back and watch their antics on the bird table. The River Cain runs through the site and I was lucky enough to catch my first ever Grayling along with 2 trout and lots of minnows. The cottage is spotless and has everything you might need, or want, for your stay. There is a small shop onsite selling their own bacon, sausages and eggs. Some other basics are available. As well as the cottage there is also a Tepee and a Yurt, a Cabin and 2 pitches for tents. Across the road there are a number of tent pitches for wild camping. 3 pubs in the nearest village, a Spar and a Morrisons petrol station/supermarket. There is also a café, a chippy and an Indian. Easy travelling to various points of interest in the area. Will we be back? Absolutely. Cannot recommend The Old Beams at Pont-Y-Forwyn highly enough. Thank you Ian and Jane for a very relaxing stay.

Lovely cosy and warm. Hosts Ian and Jane very easy to talk to and it was nice to hear about the projects they are taking on to make a lovely experience for their guests. Despite the weather Nell loved going in the river which meandered round the land and continued round the hosts other parcel of land across the B road . It is important to look and listen when crossing this road as traffic does travel quite fast round the bend. It was lovely to see the areas designated to the planting of trees on this land and each being marked with a bird name plate such as Kingfisher and Heron, both spdcies of birds being seen in the area around the river.

Our hosts were superb & very friendly but very appreciative that we were on our holiday so they left us to it. The 2 new piglets that arrived on our first day was a lovely surprise & Ian invited us to look at their baby lamb which was only an hour old when we saw it. We had one long day out and the owner said 'Time to sit down with a drink' We answered 'Yes' but there were no side tables to accommodate the glasses. Lovely owners - most helpful. Lovely area

Although compact there was plenty of space for us and our two greyhounds. The location was stunning and peaceful with the added bonus of the nearby field to exercise our dogs. We have used Sykes a number of times and would rate Old Beams as one of the best properties we have stayed in. The only downside was the walk along the busy road to the village as it is only paved halfway, but luckily we remembered to take torches and flashing collars for the dogs, for the return journey. Would recommend the food at the Station Grill.

Bird feeders on the patio are regularly visited by woodpeckers and sitting on the patio you hear buzzards calling across the valley. The adjacent campsite is small and away from the cottage down a hill along side a river with additional land across the B road where there is a paddock for those with dogs to be able to run off lead. Accommodation was very covid clean and organised and well equipped for self catering use as well as being close enough to the village eateries. Furnishings and decor of a high standard throughout. Owners were excellent in orientating us to the village facilities and further destinations and were very friendly ,welcoming and helpful with queries. Everything was as described except there is no enclosed area for a dog. However the fact that you only had to walk out of the door and you are instantly on a walking trail is delightful. The cottage is well equipped with everything needed for your stay with a welcome pack of bread, butter, milk, eggs, etc. They also leave a doggy welcome pack which is a nice touch but the icing on the cake is the chocolates left on the bed. This is a delightful holiday cottage which is central to many places. Every detail was perfected in the cottage. The kitchen had everything we needed and more! The bed was insanely comfy, the bedroom curtains kept all the light out, there was a hanging rail to store clothes and a hairdryer provided! The bathroom was beautifully equipped with everything you would need for a stay here, there was a little box with shampoo, conditioner, cotton pads, makeup wipes, soap and sanitary products which We thought was an excellent touch. Ian was the best host, he was friendly and knowledgeable, and the site was beautiful! On arrival there was a goodie bag for our dog with treats, dental chews and poo bags in which was so lovely, and dog blankets in the chest of drawers! We also had a freshly baked loaf of bread, 4 home made cakes, eggs from their chickens, milk and butter all waiting for us! There is a small kitchenette on site for the few campers which they sell items at for a great price with an honesty box, like home made jams, chutneys and eggs from their chickens! They also had the most friendly pigs opposite the house which gladly disposed of any leftovers and we spent lots of time tickling their bellies! We cannot wait to book again, and enjoy some wine in the sunset shack , overlooking the lovely views and sunset. Thanks so much for having us, 11 out of 10!
