“The cottage is isolated on a steep hill, so it is not to everyone’s liking or ability.”

We liked the setting and surroundings very much (despite the few sheep that ventured in the garden daily!). The cottage is very well appointed and feels like a home from home. Of course the particulars say no WiFi and it is ideal for disconnecting from the world. But the TV could be connected to the world so that it could receive the national channels at least. As it stands we only could stream a DVD or two from a vast collection of DVDs (very impressive!) and read and played family games. ...

As it stands we only could stream a DVD or two from a vast collection of DVDs (very impressive!) and read and played family games. We loved the shower that had hot water on tap thanks to the combi-boiler, a real treat after a day walking and climbing the beautiful hills. One improvement could be to have a welcome pack to explain how some of the appliances work, how the bins are to be collected/stored and a few hints and recommendations about the area (walks, things to do and dining out). But other than that we absolutely loved our stay at Pant y Crwyni and the owner was always at the end of the line if we needed anything. We would definitely come back.

Located in a secluded position with stunning countryside views, Pant y Crwyni is a charming detached cottage, dating back to 1768, resting in the heart of the spectacular Welsh countryside near Talerddig and Llanbrynmair.

With beautiful views and a charming mix of traditional and contemporary features, Pant y Crwyni is a wonderful dwelling for a couple or small family getaway to Mid Wales, within easy reach of Welshpool, Snowdonia National Park and the Shropshire Hills AONB.

As you arrive to the property, you are surrounded by sheep pasture, with ample space to park your car before you walk up the hill to the stone cottage, with a picnic bench outside to enjoy your morning coffee in the fresh countryside air.

You enter the property into an inviting sitting room, with a woodburning stove in a grand inglenook fire place, peacock blue velvet sofas, a television (for streaming purposes only), a selection of DVDs and a Bluetooth speaker which can be turned up to full blast as you have no neighbours nearby!

Moving through the property there is a well-equipped kitchen, so you can decide who the dedicated chef will be and sit round the dining table to enjoy an evening meal as you toast to a wonderful holiday.

Climbing upstairs, where you can view a unique mural of the names of every owner of the cottage since 1768, there is a spacious double room, with plenty of storage to unpack, a large mirror to get ready in style, and a well-situated armchair, great for admiring the views.

There is also a lovely twin room and a contemporary shower room to freshen yourself up after a long day of exploring.

A little further afield is Welshpool, a historic market town with an interesting museum, plenty of shops, bars and eateries to make it a worthy day out, as well as the National Trust Powis Castle and Gardens, making a great place for a stroll and a picnic.

If you can tear yourself away, visit Machynlleth, the location of Owain Glyndwr's 'Welsh Parliament' of 1404 and just up the road is the world renowned and innovative Centre for Alternative Technology.

Then head down towards the Welsh coast for a day at Aberystwyth and get your feet wet at Ynyslas Beach, near Borth.

About the location

CARNO

Caersws 5 miles; Llanbrynmair 6 miles; Newtown 11 miles.

Carno is a small village between Caersws and Llanbrynmair in the Mid Wales county of Powys. Carno boasts a local shop and pub and is best known for its connection to Laura Ashley whose first factory was in the village. Nearby Caersws sits on the River Severn and the village offers a railway station, church and shop, pubs, butcher and a Post Office. Just eleven miles away is the market town of Newtown, where you will find a number of shops, pubs, museums and an art gallery. This scenic part of Mid Wales boasts many outdoor activities too, including walking, cycling and fishing along with a nearby clay pigeon shooting centre (of international repute) and a rally centre run by championship rally drivers. If you prefer a spot of history whilst staying in the area, the ruins of the ancient Motte and Bailey castles situated close by in the beautiful old county town of Montgomery, or the ruins of Dolforwyn Castle in the hills above the village of Abermule are well worth visiting. Visit the world-famous Powis Castle and Garden, often frequented by Prince Charles, or Aberdovey on the stunning Cardigan Bay coastline, a paradise for watersport enthusiasts, is within an hour’s drive. An excellent place to stay, whatever your interests.
