Exceptionally well equipped property, everything you need was available, loads of space and comfortable beds! We enjoyed watching the cows and new calves as well as the boingy lambs. We went to Welshpool for the Bay Tree Vintage Tea Room (very extensive tea menu!) and the light railway, and further afield to Corris for a great day out at the Craft Centre, King Arthur's Labyrinth and the stone circle quest (also saw several jets fly over, as it's in the middle of the Mach Loop). Wet weather activity was at a tucked away escape room called Roomination at Llanfyllin, was great fun! It was a shame we only had a week, think we only scratched the surface of things to do in the area so will definitely look to visit again in the future!

The bathrooms are state of the art - spotless and gleaming. Generous quantities of luxurious cotton towels are provided. The beds and mattresses are those we could wish for at home - the epitome of sleeping comfort. The very best cotton bed linens are provided. There is a TV is almost every room, and the WiFi connection is excellent. Open the French doors to the terrace there is an outdoor dining table and chairs with a sun umbrella and cushions, and the terrace faces on to fields and a glorious view of the valley. The hamlet of Meifod has shops, pub, and teashop and there are walks and short drives will take you to Welshpool, Powis Castle, and a little further on, the legendary town of Portmeirion.

  • "We rented this cottage for a family get-together to celebrate our 40th Wedding anniversary."

From the moment we arrived (and received a very warm welcome from the John the farm owner), we knew we’d made the right choice. The cottage was very spacious, extremely well appointed and spotlessly clean with excellent levels of comfort. There is a very large patio area overlooking the meadows of this active farm. It also offered the perfect degree of seclusion whilst not being too remote from facilities. Most of all, it was a real “home from home”. There are of course the “farm smells” but what else would you expect on a working farm? All my family members were extremely complimentary of the cottage, and we all agreed it was without doubt the best holiday of its type we’ve had. Highly recommended, and we would definitely visit again in the future. We would also recommend the Bay Tree Vintage Tea Rooms in Welshpool.

My granddaughter loved looking out of the window to watch the dogs herding the sheep. Lots of lovely walks around. My Son’s tell my the village pub was great and within walking distance. There is a spar shop in the village, very handy for top up bits. We had an early morning drive out to the Pistyll Rhayader waterfall, beautiful scenery and well worth the 40 minute drive. the surroundings and setting were beautiful, we were there for a week and it was blissfully peaceful. You barely hear the working farm. The beds were comfy and rooms were so spacious the only comment I have about the facilities are that there is only one small fridge freezer for an 8 person cottage. we were a crowd that loved to eat and we struggled for space for food and drink. Also bin space (we are big drinkers) so the small bins weren't big enough. There was tonnes of crockery and the washer and dryer came in really handy. The cottage as a whole exceeded our expectations and the views were breath taking! Thanks for such a wonderful week.

We did a couple of walks up the hills which were great, and spent a day down by the river with our inflatable kayak. So there's plenty to see and do outdoors from your doorstep. Very useful local store that opens from 7:30am to 6:30pm 6 days a week, and sells fresh bread most days as well as other basics! We were able to get a supermarket delivery on the first day so didn't have to waste time shopping during our stay.

The property

This detached cottage is situated in a semi-rural location, surrounded by open countryside, nestling on the owner's working farm, in the pretty village of Meifod.

Set in Mid Wales, near the Shropshire borders, this well-appointed accommodation provides an ideal base for couples, friends and families wishing to spend quality time together.

Although a relatively modern property, Pentrego Isaf has all the character and charm you would expect from a more traditional cottage.

The sense of space is immediately apparent when you enter the beautiful oak framed, glazed entrance hallway with double height ceiling and a bespoke oak and wrought iron staircase.

The kitchen is well-equipped and caters for all your needs, extending to a lovely dining area.

There is lots of natural light drawn in from the full length glazed patio doors, which lead to a seating area outside, perfect for alfresco dining.

The cosy sitting room features a red brick fireplace housing a woodburning stove, providing a relaxing place to sit and enjoy family time with your favourite films.

A ground floor bedroom with an en-suite wet room, is perfect for members of the group who may find stairs a little tricky and there is an additional cloakroom for convenience.

Upstairs, there are three good-sized bedrooms, each individually furnished and styled.

The master bedroom with a four-poster bed, benefits en-suite facilities and views of open fields.

The garage is secure to house a vehicle and bikes, and there is even table tennis for those rainy days.

There is a ramp from the garage to allow easy access into the house for wheelchair users and prams.

Outside, the block paved patio boasts seating areas and a small garden, with only the sheep and cows in the adjoining fields for company.

There are lots of walks to enjoy from the cottage, each taking in some wonderful scenery, including Glyndwr's Way.

A 10-minute walk takes you into the village where you can stop off for a drink at the local pub, or spend an afternoon at nearby Welshpool.

Enjoy a trip on the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway, or discover the beautiful lakes Vyrnwy and Bala, the Pistyll Rhaeadr Waterfall or Powis Castle.

The medieval towns of Shrewsbury and Chester are within easy reach by car as well as the wonderful Snowdonia National Park and the coast.

For mountain bikers Llandegla, Coed-y-Brenin and the Revolution Bike Park are all within easy reach.

There are 2 tennis courts in the village which can be used for a small fee.

The field adjacent to the cottage can be used for field sports such as football or rounders if you let the owners know in advance.

There is plenty for everyone at this wonderful cottage, providing the perfect base anytime of the year.

Meifod is a sunny little, stone-built village by the River Vyrnwy with a local pub and convenience store with a post office, enveloped by rolling hills and woodland, with attractive houses. Situated about 7 miles north-west of Welshpool, this pretty village also offers tennis courts (day tickets can be purchased cheaply from the village shop), its own ruby and football teams and a historic church where there is said to be the royal tombs of 2 former princes of Powys. Fishing permits for the River Vyrnwy and Banwy can also be purchased from the village shop. Lake Vyrnwy with its RSPB reserve and Pistyll Rhaeader (Llanrhader waterfall) a 240ft waterfall in 3 stages, which is counted as one of the Seven Wonders of Wales, are only a short drive away. Both are sites of scientific interest. Gwyndu Cottage is about an hours drive away from 5 of the best places to ride mountain bikes in North Wales. Nearby, Llanfair Caereinion is in the heart of old Montgomeryshire's Banwy valley and is one of the smallest towns in Powys. Just a short walk over the Banwy Bridge from the hilly streets of the town centre, is the steam Welshpool to Llanfair Light Railway. Welshpool is a bustling market town, nestled in the Severn Valley 4 miles from the border between Wales and England. There is a lovely blend of shops, quality pubs and restaurants, as well as a restored cock fighting pit and interesting Heritage Trail. Visit the famous 13th Century Powis castle, or enjoy a cruise along the Montgomery canal. There is much to be enjoyed of an afternoon here.
