  • "Sorry, but I have to be honest here The property is in a great location, couple of minutes walk to the shops, sea front, amusements, cinema etc and the views from the side and rear of the property are perfect."

    Front garden was in need of serious attention as the old overgrown greenhouse was dangerously unstable and lawn covered in dog mess. Rear garden works as it has a “natural meadow” feel to it, it just need more seating than an old hand made bench. The patio by the kitchen door was unusable as part of the table was rotten, slightly overgrown but worst of all the whole area is overrun by large “biting” fly’s, I was bitten many time both inside and outside the house. Inside the house is very disappointing, we spent the first 2 days cleaning and I mean cleaning. The toaster and microwave had masses of flys and webs behind them, the worktops were covered in fly droppings. The owner also sent the cleaning team out to help but they turned up without cleaning products so we had to purchase them all locally. We also purchased fly paper as the house (especially the kitchen) is overrun by these fly’s. We had to clean the kitchen three times a day as flys kept leaving their droppings everywhere. We didn’t last the full week that we booked as we simply couldn’t stand it any longer, we came home half way through. The levels of dust right throughout the property were unacceptable, we literally had to empty the hoover after every room, I’ve never seen anything like this before. Our phones are full of photos and videos to prove this properties condition. I could go on about this a lot longer but feel I have already given enough detail to express the cleanliness of this property (please also read previous feedback from others). So now to the condition of the property. Rotten floor boards in the bathroom that when you stand on them water oozes out, floor board between bathroom and bedroom appear unsupported and ready to give way. Wall paper hanging off the walls in areas. Windows that don’t open, toilet doesn’t flush, tap about to fall off the sink, no games or books as described, a film collection of 4 DVD’s, rotten front door with holes in large enough to fit your hand through, large TV in bedroom that is not connected to an aerial so you’ll need a DVD player or smart TV stick, same for the TV up stairs, light point and smoke alarm downstairs both had covers missing meaning that live electrical connections are exposed for electric shock if anyone touched them, massively under stocked kitchen utensils, no pegs for the washing line. Upstairs the loft room is set up with a sofa bed and 2 x single beds, the head room is none existant, when lay down in bed you have barely 6” from your nose to the ceiling. There are large structural beams running the length of the ceiling both side of the room and the one has sever sharp metal “brackets”’fixes to it randomly that our child caught her head on. We had to move the beds to the centre of the room just to give them the head space they need. At its highest point it is still not possible for an adult to stand up in. As for the sofa bed, it was filthy and covered in rips. The mattress cover was an odd grey colour, we took it off and washed it, hey-presto it came out cream. We have compiled all the above and so much more and shared with the owner direct and Sykes as we feel this property is not providing the product or services that it’s advert is offering. Meaning this is in breach of its sales of service contract with the purchaser. It’s a real shame, as this property could be amazing but it needs an awful lot of money spent on renovation, some serious cleaning and the fly infestation sorting out. Maybe now you can understand why we didn’t last the week that we had originally booked.

  • "Rather hard to rate this property as on one hand the location is excellent ( close to the town, beach, both railway stations) and it suited us really well."

    Great to be able to bring our dog with us. On the other hand I regret to say it needs some serious TLC and looks unloved and rather neglected. The garden was overgrown, the gate off its hinges, and while we understand the owners wish not to throw things away just because they are old, they do need to be in good condition in a holiday let. Frankly it gave the impression of being a bit crumby and most of all it really was not very clean. Dead flies everywhere and generally grubby; flooring, kitchen cupboards and worktops etc. rather past their best. The property obviously suffers from damp and while it was OK in the hot weather while we were there I don’t think I would want to be there in winter. A great shame as in many ways it could be a real winner. The views from the kitchen are spectacular and we spent most of our time in there. I would urge the owners to spend a bit on it and take a bit more care of it. Replacing the rotten front door would be a good start! As it stands it is not up to the standard we have come to expect from Sykes, and it is not cheap to compensate for its shortcomings

  • "Great property, with a fabulous garden and specious, cozy rooms."

    The location is absolutely fantastic - with a beach within 5minutes walk, shop nearby and view over mountains. The kitchen is well equipped, all facilities are working fine. The house was warm, clean and welcoming. Great choice for family holiday. We will be returning. We had a wonderful holiday.

  • "Unfortunately the advert was misleading ."

    There is hardly any space for 8 adults.Luckily we were 7 and just about managed.I have been booking through Sykes since 2013 never had such awful experience.I am sorry to leave a negative review but we were so disappointed .The house was stone cold and damp.I hope the owners take these into consideration for the future guests as holidays are precious and everyone deserves a great holiday.

    I did not receive a call from the complainer when he was there, the house is very clean and sleeps 8 people fine. The dining, cooking, washing and lounging provision is perfect for eight people. As advertised it is a 3 bed house that sleeps 8, the central heating works fine, the house is not damp, of course the house is cold - it is winter and it is a holiday let, it heats up as quick as any 132 year old stone house would. I have not been provided with evidence of it being damp. Does not state why the man had an awful experience. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was in an excellent location with wonderful views of the mountains from the kitchen,sitting room and bedrooms but only about five minutes from the beach."

    Being of stone construction it stayed cool during the heatwave which coincided with our stay. The lovely garden would have been enhanced by more maintenance but was still enjoyable. Some outdoor seating or sun loungers in addition to the table and bench outside the kitchen would have been lovely. I found it very strange that no iron or ironing board or washing line was supplied but the hot weather meant we could manage without.

  • "The property is in a poor state of upkeep: Garden overgrown - could not use pathways, front door rotten and cannot be used, mold on skirting boards in bedroom, window in living room unable to close (had to have heating on), broken lap shade's, dead flies/spiders and cobwebs upon arrival at property."

    We left the property cleaner than when we arrived. Such a shame as the cottage location is great and it could be a lovely holiday destination.

  • "When we arrived at cottage the smell of damp was awful, had to ventilate."

    The cleanliness was extremely poor, dust and cobwebs in corners, table needed cleaning, dirty windows, garden gate broken, kitchen appliances very poor standard and oven was in a disgusting state. Sofa bed appalling, dirty and ripped. Insufficient bedding despite being asked numbers. Rotten front door, could see daylight through it. Some windows unable to close properly. Laminate flooring coming up in bathroom. Such a shame as cottage has huge potential, beautiful location and stunning views but cottage is in desperate need of renovation and description is mis-leading. We have sent pictures and complaint to sykes.

  • "The cottage has a lot of character, quirkily, but very comfortably furnished."

    We enjoyed the artwork. The garden also has character, surrounding 3 sides of the house and offering a different seating area in each. The view from the picnic table is superb. We had great weather allowing us to walk up Cadair Idris on the Minffordd Path (v steep). We also enjoyed circular walks directly from cottage, in Happy Valley and around Fairbourne & Barmouth (using the ferry). We found some of these in the owner's information folder. The location is quiet, but only a 5 minute walk from the train station & Co-op.

  • "Got off to bad start as cottage not ready for occupation at 5 pm on arrival."

    We had to wait outside for 30 minutes while the cleaners finish their tasks Seemly the caretakers were not aware that the premises had been booked out to us until late in the afternoon after making a phone call to someone for confirmation whilst we were there...! Otherwise we really enjoyed the place once we were settled in. Someone responsible for taking the booking had not passed the information on so it seems.

  • "We had an absolutely amazing holiday in Tyrau Tywyn."

    The house was lovely, a period cottage with original features combined with all facilities that we needed. It was decorated tastefully with lovely pictures and blankets. The garden was a great size, our dog loved it. The location of the house is the real draw, you can sit in the garden and look at the mountains and cows, walk 10 minutes to an excellent high street or walk 10 minutes in the other direction to a gorgeous quiet beach. We had lots of days out at local landmarks and the wonderful steam train is 5 minutes walk away. My children want to go back as soon as we can and I agree!

  • "A comfortable holiday cottage with beautiful views."

    It's very quiet considering how close it is to the centre of town and the beach. We had such a relaxing time there. A real bonus was the vast range of birds visiting the garden during the day and the bats flying display in the evening - just stunning.

  • "We had a really pleasant few days here in July."

    The cottage location is perfect with amazing views, and just a few minutes walk to the seafront or town. There is plenty of space inside, bedrooms are a good size - just watch your head in the attic room! The cottage is very old, so bear that in mind when booking as it has a rustic feel rather than modern/fresh. Our dog loved the garden and although we did a check and thought it was secure, we found out it wasn't when she escaped. This is made clear in the booking info so was our fault, but something to be aware of as it does look secure. We ended up using a long lead so our dog could roam around which worked well. The only real downside for us was the amount of spiders and other creepy crawlies that found there way into the cottage - there was a lot! This may not be an issue for some people, but for others it may completely ruin their stay so better to be prepared and informed.

  • "The laminate flooring in the bathroom was lifting and sections had broken off."

    The rear garden looked directly onto a building site with CCTV security cameras where work began at 0830 hours every weekday. The work that they were doing appeared to be drainage or sewerage works in the field at the side of the property. This meant that the large JCB excavators drove up the side of the property a few feet from the garden, giving the workmen an excellent view into the house. There are no curtains in the kitchen so there was no way of stopping this invasion of privacy. This was obviously planned work but at no point did anyone get in touch to let us know that this was happening at the property. I have made a complaint but i am still waiting almost a week later for customer services to contact me. The photographs on the website completely misrepresent what our experience of this property was like. I have taken my own photographs which evidence the problems. I have rented properties previously with Sykes and had no issues but at the moment i am unlikely to use them again.

  • "The garden is neglected, overgrown, full of debris and needs some TLC."

    We swept up the leaves from the patio and tidied. If there had been a key to the shed we would have cut the grass. The cottage was very comfortable & spotlessly clean, but the gas fire doesn't work, it is disconnected.

  • "Great and quite location, just off the main street (local Coop is <5mins walk), with views on the nearby hills and farm animals."

    Garden could do with a little bit more work (grass could have done with a cut), but was much bigger than expected - great for dog to run around and child to play football. Kitchen well equipped, comfy bed and cosy seating area to chill out during rainy days.

The tranquil town of Tywyn lies on the sweep of Cardigan Bay, perched on the end of the imposing Cader Idris mountain range where the landscape tumbles into the sea on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park.
