The historic village of Churchstoke was originally mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086, while today it is a quiet village surrounded by scenic countryside, on the English/Welsh border. It boasts a supermarket, two pubs and an historic church. A few miles away, Montgomery is a small town steeped in history, with many timber-framed houses, cobbled streets and the ruins of a 13th century hill-top castle which provides panoramic views over Wales. There are more than a dozen individual shops and a good variety of pubs and restaurants There are many walking and cycling opportunities in the area with the Offas Dyke to follow the border between England and Wales. A few miles to south is the historic market town of Bishop's Castle, an excellent place for a day or night out with its excellent pubs, live music and festivals throughout the year. This whole border region is renowned for its wonderful scenic countryside and excellent walks.
