The house is lovely and well equipped. The kitchen was amazing and we probably spent more time there than any other room. The location was perfect with just a short walk into Dolgellau. We didn’t have much opportunity to enjoy the garden due to the weather but hope to return in the summer so that we can fully appreciate this property.

The access to mountain walks is terrific, even if I failed to complete the stunning Precipice Walk due to my dislike of extreme heights. The house is spacious, well equipped, clean, modern and in sensible condition for a holiday home. We informed the owner of a couple of things that needed repair, he was aware of them already. We would unhesitatingly stay here again. We like the property, location and price. In our view the only downside is the lack of fresh vegetable based food in local restaurants. The local coffee shop and pub are fine though.

This cottage is situated on a Fantastic location near loads of beautiful beaches, waterfalls and mountains. The cottage itself benefits from breathtaking views with very nice sitting areas and garden. The only thing that really needs renewing is the TV. A high quality smart TV will make a huge difference specially in evenings when you are tired and want to relax and enjoy your favourite TV show on demand. Overall we had a great time in there and will recommend it.

  • "Lechwedd is a lovely, house which is clean, comfortable, well appointed, warm, well equipped and a pleasure to be in."

The steep back garden with its bbq patio would be superb in warm weather (not January!) and the views terrific: Cader Idris is visible from all the front windows. Dolgellau is an excellent centre for most activities and there are good shops and eating places - and all a 10 minute walk away. We strongly recommend Lechwedd - and the owner is helpful and pleasant.

If you have any mobility problems this property might not be for you. Settee in lounge is very low and not ideal for anyone with back or knee problems. Milk in the fridge and tea bags would be good on arrival

  • "This was our first stay at the cottage."

We were perfectly happy with our choice. The location is conveniently close to Dolgellau centre, with some reasonable road noise from the Barmouth Road during the day, as we expected, but almost none at night. There was no music noise at all. You can walk into town, which we did pretty well every day. The drive is on the steep side. The cottage is spacious, light and airy, and generally well equipped. My only comment would be that the living room sofa is very low if you have a bad back like me! The kitchen is very nice and very well equipped, the bathrooms are too, and the place seems newly decorated. In summary, I would describe the cottage as being sensible value for money, and we would return. Our reaction to it was that it was a nice, well presented holiday home. We've seen lots of worse properties in our time. The cleaning was done to a good standard.

The house itself was beautiful, the photos don't do it justice. We loved sitting out in the garden and looking at the breathtaking views, the grandchildren also had lots of fun picking the blackberries that were growing in the garden. The house was fully equipped with everything that you would need and we took full advantage of the bath, which was a nice extra after a day of walking and exploring the area. If we were to visit the area again we would definitely go back! Regards, The Bailey Family

  • "Although the location was perfect for travel, the accommodation is in need of an update in areas of seating, totally run down."

The bathrooms had to be bleached because of the smell from drainage in showers. There was an accumulation of fluff and dirt behind seating and we found cigarette packets, which suggests this was never cleaned anytime soon. Some utilities had to be bought for kitchen use ( spatula & scissors). On 3 of the nights we were welcomed to a band playing in next door's garage and we couldn't close the windows (heat) from 6.30 to 9.30.There was no mop & bucket to give the floors a good clean; and carpets are that old that the carpet cleaner didn't do much when used.No clothes line for washing to hang out & fridges/ freezers way too small for 6 people. This may sound like nothing to other stays, but it did make us leave on Friday rather than Saturday.

The photos of the property don't do it justice and it felt much bigger. It is in a private position and we didn't really see anyone else whilst we were there. Just note, it is difficult to find the first time and we needed to call David.. Look for the bird on the post! The gardens are huge and it also has a nice seated area. The views are also amazing. Dolgellau has a fantastic park for children, with nice little shops. We made the most of the area and visited, Barmouth Beach (a must). We went for a walk up Cadair Idris and made it to the lake. We visited Portmeirion, which is a nice day out. Aberdovey, is a nice beach day, not as many shops as Barmouth. Dolgoch Falls, is also lovely and not far from the house. The house, has nearly everything you need and we would certainly look at coming again! Thank you :)

Everything worked well (wifi, heating etc). Although it’s within easy walking distance from town its position on the hillside at the edge makes it feel more secluded, and the road connections from Dolgellau are excellent. Beautiful garden, please note that it’s very steep so small kids will need constant supervision. Great communication from David the owner who sent us useful suggestions for steam train adventures for our train-obsessed kids! The driveway is a little hard to spot from Barmouth road but once you’ve found it the first time it’s easy (look for the stone duck on the gatepost!)

Dolgellau is an interesting town with plenty of cafes, pubs and restaurants, and is a good centre from which to explore West Snowdonia. Just some small points: 1) The house is difficult to find initially as the house sign is barely visible on Barmouth Road. We had to park then walk to find the property. 2) The walk to town centre is more like 10-15 mins than 5 (but is flat apart from the short steep bit between house and road). 3) No sign of a visitor's book, would have been interesting to read other people's comments.

  • "I have always been a fan of Sykes, having been a regular customer for many years."

However, the acid test is when a business faces a customer challenge, and you see how the company responds. I rented the cottage, Llechwedd in Dolgellau mid Jan 2019. It is a large hillside detached house with big rooms and corridors. The central heating is oil fired and it broke down due to boiler failure three quarters of the way into our holiday. The owner promptly came over with a couple of noisy warm air blowers. These were not nearly enough to keep the house habitable and ineffective as a central heating substitute. We hunkered down in the kitchen which was the only room that we could get warm. The rest of the house remained freezing. The boiler repair man said the spare part for the boiler could not be fitted until our due departure date. We decided to leave early and go home as the house was too cold. The owner and Sykes have been absolutely dogmatic that provision of warm air blowers is an adequate substitute for a full CH system in a Welsh January. This was definitely NOT the case. I have explained to the owner and Sykes that I understand that problems and breakdowns can happen, but that we, the customers have lost a couple of days of our holiday for which we made a payment. I am not after a rebate on the money we paid for the rental, more an acknowledgement/apology of how much we were inconvenienced. All responses from the owner/Sykes have been defensive and dismissive of our problem, which frankly I find very poor behaviour. I have suggested that as a goodwill gesture a small value voucher towards our next possible Sykes cottage holiday would make for good customer relations. This has not been forthcoming either. So overall I have felt very disappointed at my treatment by the owner and Sykes who basically say being left with no Central Heating in a Welsh January is fine. Bob

Our sincerest apologies for the lack of support you feel you have received on this booking, we strive to provide a first class service to all of our customers and it would appear on this occasion we have failed. We have reviewed your case and complaint with this booking and can see that we have issued you a voucher for you to use on a possible future booking with us by way of a goodwill gesture. The owner is aware of the feedback that has been left and is using it constructively for any similar issues that may arise in future. Again, we apologise for how you have perceived the response from both owner and Sykes, we hope that the resolution offered and accepted is a satisfactory one. Property Owner
