• "Slightly disappointing."

  The cottage looks a lot better on the advert than it is in real life! The whole cottage felt damp and musty however, it rained for most of our stay, which made it slightly worse. The cottage needs a really good clean from top to bottom - including the mold in the bathroom and in the bedrooms - as well as decorating throughout. Some new curtains, hung properly and sofa's in the living room would also be a good idea - there was just nowhere in the house that was comfortable. We didn't sleep in the front bedroom as the bed was uncomfortable and the curtains were not appropriate to need - letting in lots of light. The back bedroom was better, as it looked directly out onto the cliff face - and we mean 'directly'! Bit of a fire risk really, which isn't noted. Stairs are very steep, which is noted but people should be aware they are 'very steep', even if your mobility is good! Owner made contact with us on the morning of our journey to Pwellhi and advised they were there if we needed anything - rather difficult to advise the owner that the cottage was damp, musty and uncomfortable after 5 hours of travelling and shattered - as we didn't have anywhere else to go and felt we had to make the best of it. We had to wash all the crockery and cutlery before we used anything too, as there were food bits left in pans and on cutlery. We didn't bother using the washing machine and dryer, as we didn't feel it would be safe due to all the rain and water running down the back of the outhouse. On a positive note, the cottage was in a good position to enable us to discover the Llyn Peninsula and North Wales and we were out of the house most of the time. We cut our 7 night stay short by a couple of nights as we were cold and wet for the entire time and I ended up with a terrible chest infection. Sorry - this is the first time we have booked a Sykes cottage and we certainly will not be booking one again.

• "The cottage itself is fine unfortunately the maintenance has been neglected in a number of areas such as the stairs and the cleanliness wasn't great."

  I expected a little damp but finding a small dried dog poo behind the ottoman in the lounge made my daughter decide to leave a day early! Whilst the generous facilities were as expected this did finish the holiday for us. There was a general feel due to the amount of personal items left in cupboards and the ottoman that this was someone's holiday home and not a rental.

• "Arrived tired after a 5 hour journey to find hairs in all of the beds, bedding not been changed, so had to strip all beds and wash them."

  Slept in clothes with towel on the beds.Cushions on chairs were stained and dirty.. Dark and depressing cottage due to sheer rock face at the back of the cottage, practically at arms reach from kitchen window so no light coming in. Laundry room although adequate, was dirty and gloomy. If there was a fire, couldn't escape as back door jammed and as there is rock face at the back with no gaps between cottages, couldn't get out anyway.. Bathroom ok, needs updating. Stairs, although steep we managed, however bedroom/bathroom leads straight onto stairs so care is needed if you get up in the night, otherwise could fall down them. . Overall, cottage needs decorating, cleaned properly and to be honest not worth the price we paid. I had put in a complaint with Sykes, however as it was the weekend beds were not changed until Monday. Did not receive a message so wasn't sure if they were coming. Not had an apology or anything. Also, no welcome pack or instructions etc. Very poor service and do not recommend Sykes nor will I be using them again.

  Had a lovely stay and had everything we could have needed provided for us. The bed was so so comfortable. A text from the owner, checking things were good, in case we needed anything, was reassuring.

• "Swn y Mor is a really nice place to stay, very comfortable and well equipped."

  Close to Pwllheli Marina, it's also in easy walking distance of the town centre and the beaches. We used it as a base to explore the peninsular, and there's easy parking right outside the front door - it was Easter weekend but I never struggled to park when we came back. Yes, the stairs are steep, but that's normal for a cottage like this and it wasn't a problem for us.

• "The heating system is thankfully very warm."

  We needed to use this a lot as the weather was wet and the cottage is very damp upstairs and the smell of damp in the bedrooms is very strong at night which we found unpleasant and affected sleep. The curtains in the front bedroom are completely ineffective and there is a street lamp right outside, which meant the room was never dark . This also really affected my sleep .I did hang a blanket over the curtain rail which didn’t really help and for this reason alone , plus the damp , would not recommend this cottage to anyone . There was a lot of dust , grime and stickiness generally and other peoples pet hair not cleaned up. I don’t think it had been cleaned before our stay. Fridge was sticky and surfaces had crumbs , sink had dirty old wet cloths in. There is property stored at the cottage such as clothing in the bedroom ,piled on top of the wardrobe , which made it feel as if we were in someone’s home that they had vacated for the week. This should be stated on the listing as it is not something I have experienced when booking with Sykes before and does make me wonder about their listings for the future . The cottage states it sleeps four . There were two of us - me and my 12 year old - and we left the dog at home in the end . We would not have liked to have had more people with us as it would have been very cramped particularly at mealtimes as there is not really any space to seat four and certainly not enough cooking equipment to prepare meals for four. This is not unusual with Sykes property unfortunately . It is an extremely tiny property . The bathroom is very damp. It is on a very busy main road. There is a sheer rock face at the back, no yard. I was very glad we hadn’t brought our ( tiny) dog as there is nowhere to let them outside anywhere on or even near to the property . I was surprised - and disappointed- at this property as it is not consistent with the standard of other properties I have rented from Sykes , although with some upgrading work it could be. I didn’t have a problem with the steep stairs as others have said , as we live in a similar cottage , but no way four adults and a dog could fit in comfortably in my opinion.

• "Well situated for the dog-friendly beach and supermarket in easy walking distance, however stairs were very narrow and steep, with the second bedroom opening straight onto the stairs, so perhaps challenging for visitors with small children and/or mobility issues."

  The property could do with a larger sofa downstairs as my partner has mobility issues and couldn't make the very steep higher than normal treads on the staircase without help, the sofas were not really suitable for sleeping on ,I wouldn't recommend anyone with mobility problems staying here unless they can sleep downstairs , but as the bathroom is also upstairs it could be a problem as it is not an ordinary staircase, the property is close to the beach and a short walk to the supermarket
