"The stunning view from the hot tub and the friendly staff made our holiday ..."
The stunning view from the hot tub and the friendly staff made our holiday really enjoyable the food in the golf club helped as well
"Beautiful cottage in a quiet surrounding, kitchen was fully equipped with everything you could possibly need."
We took the dog with us and he loved sitting outside on the decking with us everyday. We walked down the canal to to local pub “the nags head” and the food was brilliant, we went back here twice. The hot tub was cleaned daily and even when we discovered a wasps nest in the lawn the handyman came instantly to sort out the problem.
Lovely little cottage with great views, would 100% return.
"Having just spent a week in a superb cottage on Anglesey this property had a lot to live up to."
A decent location and as we did not know the area there were opportunities to explore the canal by bike and nearby villages. We were really impressed by the quality of food in every pub and restaurant we went to, especially the Nags Head Inn. The staff were always friendly and accommodating with or without our dog. The property itself was compact, clean and comfortable. The hot tub was amazing and checked everyday by a very attentive groundsman. There were a couple of anomolies. An iron board without an iron (we wouldn't have used it anyway) and no washing machine but a clothes line. Otherwise a good property for a small family.
"The Stablings is not suitable for a dog as the outside space is not enclosed."
Suggest more than 1 tea towel is provided for a week long holiday.
Accommodation was full of flies. Could have been because of the hot weather but spoiled the holiday for us.
Location of cottage is good. Lovely area. Staff friendly and helpful.
"The Stablings has been a lovely stay, the reception staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble."
The accommodation had everything you needed for your stay. The surrounding area was just beautiful and grounds were so well kept. Loved all the animals, ducks, geese, swans birds etc
Yes past reviews have said about the decking not being enclosed for their dogs. They are actually going to do something about this in the future. We were ok as we have quite a well behaved dog. He just loved all the walks on the door step. Hot tub was checked daily and lovely especially at night when looking at the stars. The only negative is we would prefer a Kings size bed but that is just our preference.
If you want a chilled, peaceful holiday I would highly recommend.
"We had a problem using the gas cooker as I don’t us gas at home, the cooker had been scrubbed clean so well that the markers had all rubbed of for the oven and grill which are combined, but somebody was there very quickly to help."
"Overall we had a really good week away."
Staff at reception was really polite when checking in. The cottage is right next to reception however it is still very private and we were not disturbed at all. The views are lovely, looking over the lake and the cabins in the wooded area. It is very near to the main road but this did not bother us at all and rarely heard the hum of the traffic going past.
We had amazing weather so had a bbq most meals - we used the oven once to cook a pizza and well it wasn't the best. It took about an hour overall to cook it, it seems the door doesn't seal properly.
The canal walk is lovely, a little overgrown but nothing to shout about, the Nags Head is a lovely pub a mile down the canal, and did amazing food. We did go to the golf club house once for dinner, but didn't feel like we fitted in as we aren't golfers and we were being looked at as being outsiders.
The garden isn't secure so if you have a dog that likes to roam it isn't the best, luckily our boy is older and just settled on the decking or the grass area.
If you like to chill with films then I advise you take dvds as its just normal TV and a dvd player, the wifi hardly connected so don't rely on a laptop for netflix or other streaming. We popped to tesco and bought a few dvds to see us through the week.
The hot tub was amazing, nice and clean and warm. It was maintained well everyday.
As I said Overall we had a really lovely week here at stablings cottage
"We loved the location of the cottage, which was spacious and had great views over the canal and gardens."
Beds were comfortable and the shower good once we had worked out how to use it! The local pub does great food as well. Lovely walks in the nearby woods too.
There is a busy main road about 250 metres away, mentioned as some other reviewers have complained about. We could hear the traffic if the windows were open (although not loud) and it didn't particularly bother us.
However, it did feel that things were stinted on in some areas, e.g. there were only 2 dishwasher tablets for the whole week and we had to ask for more. Plus there was no salt or rinse aid to fill the machine with as it was completely empty. Again I had to ask for this. Also one tea towel meant we had to buy more to use. No salt or pepper facilities. No soap in the bathroom. Small things like that.
The main issue was the wifi. Trying to use this was a joke. One minute the general network was available, although it took a while to connect then suddenly it had not only stopped but disappeared off the network list, leaving on the staff network showing. The staff rebooted it several times and eventually someone came out to see to it, after which it improved slightly but it was still not great.
"The reception staff were welcoming and helpful."
The cottage was in a good position with great views and lovely walks for the dog. It would have been better to have a dog proof area rather than have him tied up all the time when outside.
Strange fan gas oven which didn’t really reach the required temperature and a very strange tin opener which didn’t work at all so I had to use the strong kitchen scissors with which I manage to cut a hole in the tin.
The bed was very saggy.
The hot tub was wonderful and well maintained.
The nearby Nags Head was very good for food and dog friendly.
"We had a dog and on the listing it said the property was enclosed but to check perimeter were the dog may be able to get out."
the property was not enclosed so could not leave dog out unless fastened up
Had everything we needed very clean on arrival, with the fire on it was a cold wet day when we arrived.
The grounds were stunning and we enjoyed walking our little dog around them and along the canal.
Cottage is near the reception but we were never disturbed, still felt private.
After our days out walking it was relaxing to enjoy the hot tub in the evening.
Would highly recommend this cottage.
Supermarket only a short drive away in Newtown
"Very friendly staff, very comfortable chalet, fire was on for us on arrival and hot tub ready to use."
"A lovely cottage in beautiful scenic surroundings."
fire was lit and hot tub ready to use on our arrival.
cottage is located near to the reception office but this was never a problem and cottage was very private. unfortunately the weather wasn't great during our stay but it didn't hamper our enjoyment of our time there. hot tub was used day and night regardless of the weather and was lovely at night for star gazing.
staff In reception were very friendly and welcoming. overall a lovely place and we will definitely return. infact we didn't want to come home. would highly recommend.
"Cottage was fine comfortable and perfect for our needs, the fridge failed on the second day which meant that we had to dispose of some fresh meats and such but the company replaced it once I contacted them however the only place they could put it was in the front room which was not ideal with a small child about."
All in all not bad.
"We had a fantastic holiday and really couldn’t fault where we stayed, the only thing we did expect were a few more bits in the kitchen, perhaps salt, pepper, butter and oil."
Due to this we had issues with cooking but other than that a delightful stay! Loved the pigs and pony’s, quickly found the pub and hot tub was amazing!
"The property was just as described and better located than listed."
The site management were very helpful and explained everything clearly. We would recommend this property and location.
"We had a lovely time, the cottage was lovely and had everything we needed, we where near great walks along the canal and not to far away from the coast."
"Fantastic location for cottage next to lake (ideal if a fisherman), canal, woods and golf course."
.. wanted to stay longer.
"Kitchen equipment was poor."
No frying pan.
Not enough towels in the kitchen
Good deck, good hot tub
Next to nice 9 holes golfcourse with good restaurant.
Beds where to short
"Enjoyed every moment of it first class, the views, walks along the canal, baby swans and ducks, plenty to do will go again will have to save up, lovely hot tub."
Lovely comfortable cottage thank you
"Just 2 improvements needed, they have a calor gas oven which takes ages to cook ..."
Just 2 improvements needed, they have a calor gas oven which takes ages to cook I would recommend changing it to electric, also beds a little hard
Apart from that I love this little cabling it was our 2nd time there and won’t be our last
"Fantastic lodge in a beautiful & peaceful location."
What it says on the tin plus much much more. personal little touches that go a long way to making you feel welcome.
"Just come back from an amazing week staying in The Stablings lodge."
A lovely location with everything you need in a relaxing week away. Long canal walks, tea rooms, local pubs and a much deserved relax in the hot tub afterwards. I would definitely recommend Penllwyn Lodges as a place to stay for both families & couples alike.
"Great cottage, great location."
Wasn’t clear from the photos or description that this cottage is in fact next door to the main building and reception, we were expecting to be more secluded but the cottage was fenced so it was private.
Towels were lovely and fresh smelling and soft and bed very comfy.
A very small amount of toilet paper was in bathroom so be sure to bring some if arriving after the shop has closed!
"Fantastic holiday, we arrived and the fire was lit and the hot tub was ready!"
The lodge was very clean and tidy and was exactly as described, it was very peaceful and the site was very well kept . We would definitely go again, thank you
"Pros: Lovely location and surroundings."
Cons: Uncomfortable beds, dirty floors, very old and tatty bath mats.
"What can i say."
....the lodge, the site, and the staff, we're excellent. The seclusion of the place was just what we wanted. The lodge itself was lovely and clean, and that hot tub was heaven. Will definitely be coming back, and soon.
"Lovely cottage in beautiful grounds."
Loved the gas fireplace and the outdoor hot tub for relaxing in the evenings. Only improvement needed is to update kitchen inventory (for example there is no decent frying pan or pot large enough to cook pasta). Otherwise a very enjoyable and relaxing stay. Very family friendly.
"Very cold accommodation and the beds were very uncomfortable."
There were beautiful views and great walks from the lodge. Great hot tub and outdoor space.
"Great overall and newly decorated ."
..... just need to increase the hot water pressure
"Location very peaceful with woods, lake ,canal and golf course."
Not only children would be fascinated by the unusual breed of sheep and pigs and meeting Sam the parrot.
Perfectly situated with easy access to A483. The Grounds surrounding the cottage included a lake, canal, golf course & wooded area with a variety of lodges also available. All were in pristine condition & perfectly kept. Will certainly return in the future.
"A good venue for this part of mid wales, even better as it only rained at night."
Good dog walks along the canal towpath. We used the A44 & 483 to get there, from Wiltshire very bendy, came back, via the A5 M54 M6 & M5, much better and quicker. Welshpool nice market town, lots of local shops and a Tesco if you need it.
"The holiday cottage was well clean!"
I've never seen a cottage that clean and refurbished it was amazing! We really enjoyed our holiday the time location everything went very well, the kitchen had everything we needed. However, overall it was an excellent trip, full privacy lovely people around beautiful location. Thank you very much!! The best holiday ever.
