  • "We loved this little place."

The remoteness and peace and quiet plus being able to get out into the hills from our doorstep was all great. Generally, the standard of facilities was good and as we were out a lot of the time we didnt require luxury. There were a few things that didn't work properly, for example the bedroom radiator was difficult to alter as the instructions on the display panel were faded .. I suspect it needs a new battery? The kitchen utensils were of a good standard but the ktchen was oddly equipped for two people with some very large saucepans and no small pan; no small plates to have some toast or a sandwich on and things missing that you might expect to be there such as a sieve and a casserole dish from which to serve a shepherds pie we made. The TV is so tiny we used my iPad instead. Overall we enjoyed our stay and it is very likely that we will book this property again but the kitche felt that it had been equipped with whatever the owner no longer wanted in their own kitchen, rather than being thought about in terms of what two people might want for a week's stay. There is a very nice secluded walled area at the rear of the cottage, whihc would have been nice to use but it was overgrown with brambles and bushes and there was no key (promised in the instructions) to access garden furniture in the shed. Finally, the instructions on where the second set of keys were was incorrect and it took us two days before we noticed them hangin on a hook high up on the ceiling.

We are so pleased you loved staying at Y Gribyn; it is indeed a magical location. However, we were sorry some of the details of the cottage did not meet your expectations. We haven’t known the radiator indicator in the bedroom to have a faded display panel and will look into that. As you suggested, we have now supplied small plates, a small saucepan, sieve and casserole dish, as we can understand how useful these may be. We are also sorry that the TV screen was too small for you, though this is clear in the interior photographs, and we had felt that a larger screen would have altered the character of the cottage in a negative way, but we will think further about this. The garden furniture you refer to was already set up for you on the terrace. The locked garden shed is for our mower and other garden equipment; we normally keep that garden furniture in the unlocked shed next to the terrace, which is also useful bike storage for guests. We are in the process of clearing the brambles at the back. As new owners our gardening priorities have been to the front of the property, but we are catching up with the bramble situation! There is no second set of keys, there is one key for the main French doors which you picked up on arrival from the key safe; the second key (for the side door) indeed hangs up inside on a hook by that door. We are sorry if this was confusing. Thank you so much for your feedback, we are delighted that you have booked to return next year, and hope that you will be happy with our changes. Property Owner

  • "Lovely little cottage in a quite area, had everything you could need for a few days away, it’s small so perfect for just a couple and a dog."

Good location for trips to Barmouth, Fairbourne, Bala ect…nice restaurant/hotel just down the road too for meals out. It can get cold but that’s expected with a cottage, when the heaters are on it soon warms up, the bed has a heated electric mattress protector which was left on for us on our arrival day, that was a nice touch! The road up to the cottage is single track so you just have to be cautious driving up to the property at give way points but it’s not a busy road. Enjoyed our stay, Would defiantly come again!

Thank you so much for your comments, we are very happy that you enjoyed your stay, and look forward to welcoming you back to this part of Snowdonia in the future. Property Owner

  • "Some good and some not so good ,the location was excellent very easy to access ..."

Some good and some not so good ,the location was excellent very easy to access the not so good was the property was very small , nothing like the photos on entering there was a musty smell in the bedroom which we later discovered was due to damp on the wall right by electrical socket, we brought our own iron but there wasn’t any ironing board no mirrors for blowing wife’s hair , the kettle leaked, it is ideal for walker’s but not suitable for people our age 70 plus

We are pleased that you found Y Gribyn to be an excellent location but we're sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with your stay. We would like to take this opportunity to respond to the points that you have made. It is certainly not our intention to indicate that the property is larger than it is, and hope that the two-seater sofa and other elements in the kitchen/living room makes its proportions clear. As Y Gribyn is a 150-year-old stone cottage, we are aware that there is one small area that can be prone to slight dampness occasionally. We have not detected any musty smells, but will keep this monitored. We do not supply an iron or ironing board given the restricted storage space we have available. There is now a hand mirror in the bathroom in addition to the wall mirrors in both the bathroom and bedroom – thank you for alerting us to this. It is likely that stovetop kettle was over-filled, and water escaped through the spout when it boiled as we have checked this and not detected any leaking. We acknowledge that the cottage is most attractive to walkers and to people of any age who enjoy outdoor activities. Thank you for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "The cottage had no clothes storage whatsoever which for 7 nights is poor."

Bedroom was very damp with mildew on the walls and no pole to open the velux roof windows. Cooking facilities were good and cottage in an excellent location

Thank you for your feedback. As one of our first guests we were sorry to hear that you encountered these issues, which we are now addressing. We have now installed a wall mounted cupboard for clothes in the bedroom, which could not comfortably accommodate a chest of drawers. As with many 15- year-old stone cottages, condensation and moisture can be a challenge, especially in the autumn and winter months. From November there will be a powerful and quiet dehumidifier to help address this. There is also now a small step-stool so that the Velux windows can be easily opened for further ventilation.
