  • "We’ve just returned home from a wonderful Christmas week at this truly amazing cottage."

The cottage is set in the a idilic location with views from every window. So many walks from the doorstep. It’s around 15 minute drive from Aberdovey which is a lovely small town with some shops restaurants and pubs and well as wonderful beaches. The house itself is stunning. It’s been renovated beautifully throughout. The furnishing as so so we’ll thought out which makes it very comfortable. There is nothing the owners haven’t thought of. Log fire, games, books. The kitchen and utility is well stocked with everything you can think of. We didn’t want to come home. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Thank you for this lovely feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your Christmas holiday at Peniarth Ganol and that you have such special memories to take home with you. Property Owner

  • "We had a fantastic stay at Peniarth Ganol for my parents golden wedding anniversary get-together."

The cottage is really homely, has everything you need, and is in the most beautiful setting. It’s perfect for a rural escape. My only criticism is that our bedding was a bit damp in all rooms, so they hadn’t been fully dried before putting on the beds. This wouldn’t put me off staying here again. I can highly recommend this beautiful property. We were also blessed with lovely weather which was an added bonus. Thank you to the hosts! :o)

Thank you so much for this feedback and we are so pleased that you chose Peniarth Ganol for your family celebration. We are baffled by the issue that you had with the bed linen and can only apologise to you for it. All of our changeovers are done by our professional housekeeping team on the day of our guests’ arrival and they bring with them a full set of fresh sheets, towels, etc. direct from the laundry. We shall investigate. Property Owner

  • "Peniarth Ganol is a beautifully refurbished former farmhouse."

It is full of character and quirkiness but with all the amenities you could hope for. We stayed there as a family of 4 adults with two children (our grandchildren), and our two dogs. We all had a great time both in the cottage and in the gardens and it was isolated enough to enjoy peace and quiet but near enough to travel to a variety of different destinations. There is so much to do there and we love visiting different areas of Wales year after year. The owners had thought of just about everything, even providing a large basket of dishwasher tablets and large bags to put dirty linen in. I imagined it to be a soft water area but there was some limescale in the bottom of the kettle which our daughter scrubbed most of it off. It was great to have a choice of bathrooms with the downstairs shower room being very much appreciated. It was great that there was a really useful utility room as well as plenty of storage everywhere. There was also a spacious and ample fridge freezer. Despite all that was provided, we took extra toilet roll, kitchen towel, beach and tea towels, extra bin bags etc so we really were short of very little and improvised where we needed to. There was a huge choice of adults and children's books and games with our grandchildren never tiring of snakes and ladders with much hilarity and cheating going on. The wifi is excellent and useful because there isn't much signal elsewhere until you reach towns. Within several miles, there are plenty of shops to buy provisions with lots of Aldis and Co-ops and a few other independent shops. There are so many stunning hand crafted features of the cottage like the hand made window frames, and enormous dining table, and the staircase. Had the weather been slightly better, we would have had a BBQ outside but when the weather was fine, we went out and about exploring but there was plenty of seats and tables in the garden so plenty of choice for everyone. Great holiday all round and a lovely property and location.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed and lovely review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed Peniarth Ganol and found that it had everything that you needed to enjoy your holiday. Property Owner

  • "Lovingly restored farmhouse in the Dysynni Valley."

Lots of hardwork obviously went into making Peniarth Ganol the fabulous property it is today. The views to 'Bird Rock' are amazing and captured to their fullness from the lounge and patio. Lovely, although steep walking path to the rear of the house with panoramic vistas to the coast in the distance. Beautiful rooms with everything to need for a perfect holiday. The lambs bleeting and skipping around outside completed the experience. One minor issue and as mentioned previously by others, the farmer sometimes closes the gate (which you have to drive through to reach the property) and does not reopen the gate, so you have to get out of your vehicle to reopen it. The ground is often 'mucky'!

Thank you so much for this really nice review. We are genuinely delighted that you had a good stay at Peniarth Ganol and that you enjoyed it as much as we do. We do gently remind Trefor, the farmer, to leave the gate open as much as we feel we can, but he is always busy and he has a lot of other things to think about. The cows are out in the fields for the summer months, but during the winter we find it helpful for one of us to have a pair of crocs or wellies in the car to put on when opening the gate. Great facilities and well maintained house. Few things: Very difficult to find in the dark. Need lights at the entrance by the gate. Very dirty by the gate. Not ideal to step into the cows mess to ooen the gate. This is the draw back and for this reason I have selected the sad face for the listing and 3 for recommendations. Although there were 2 bathrooms, we could only use the downstairs one as the shower in the first floor did not have a shower holder.

Thank you so much for your honest feedback. Your suggestions are really helpful to us. We will move the light at the gate closer to the drive and ask the farmer again to keep the gate open. The cows are out in the fields for most of the year. The shower attachment is intended for use in the bath, but we will look to how we can convert it into a standing shower. Property Owner

The beds especially gave us all a great nights sleep, and our little boy loved the cot provided. Minor points were with the hot weather there were flys so fly spray or a swatter would be handy in the cleaning cupboard (but understand not everyone would want to use these). Also, as mentioned above the beds were extremely comfortable but we did find ourselves banging our legs on the wood sticking out around the edges… not much that can be done but wondered if the double room it could be turned around to help stop that? Regardless, it’s definitely a lovely home and we enjoyed it thoroughly:) if we’re in the area again we’ll definitely keep it in mind.

If you are looking for a remote, beautiful holiday home with everything you might need or want then this is your place. The property has been lovingly renovated by the owners with views to die for. The kitchen is well stocked with crockery and cutlery. The 2 bathrooms are spacious and the shower is devine with loads of hot water. The house is so well made that the bedrooms are so quiet you can hardly hear other people moving around the house, and the beds are super comfy. We had a baby with us and there was a travel cot and highchair available. There is lots to do in the area with a short drive to beaches, we did pottery painting at Corris craft centre which was nice, but also lots of walks from the cottage door. A wander up bird rock opposite gives stunning views! I'm sure we will be back, I would like to go in winter to make the most of the underfloor heating and cosy log fire!

This is such a joy to read! Thank you so much. It’s interesting that you pick up on the quietness between the bedrooms. When we were renovating the house we doubled up on the sound insulation between all of the rooms in order to provide that sense of peace and calm. It makes a difference, doesn’t it? Do come back in winter. As well as the toasty heating, you can also be surprised by some winter sunshine as well. Property Owner

You have the peacefulness of being in the countryside but only a 15 minute drive to the beach. It really was a home-from-home and had so many nice touches and facilities (my only minor gripe is that it’s been overlooked about having a mirror near a plug socket so drying your hair is a challenge as there are only mirrors currently in the bathrooms, but that is only a minor thing in the scale of things as they’d thought of everything else). It was spotlessly clean everywhere and the beds were really comfy. You have the choice of a lovely roll-top bath in the upstairs bathroom or an amazing waterfall shower in the downstairs one. Although it worked out quite expensive for us as a family of 4, if you had two families stay, with the maximum capacity of 8 people, then it is definitely value for money and we’d love to come back and stay again

The property

Tywyn 4 miles, Aberdovey 8 miles.

Peniarth Ganol is a beautifully renovated farmhouse set close to a working farm, hidden within the magnificent Snowdonia National Park near the village of Llanegryn.

A rural pet-friendly cottage boasting superb views of Craig yr Deryn and the Dysynni Valley, this spacious dwelling is the perfect base for large families or friends of eight eager to explore the North Wales countryside.

As you make your way through the farmyard and pull up to the property, be sure to appreciate the character and charm of the stone-fronted walls and breath-taking surroundings.

Grab your bags and head into the warmth of the utility room where you will find a shoe rack, washing machine and a traditional drying rack, great for kicking off your mud-splattered boots after a long country walk and throwing your dirty clothes in the washing machine before you enjoy a lovely warm shower in the nearby contemporary shower room.

Once you're feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, make your way through to the traditional cottage kitchen with attractive oak worktops, striking original stone fireplace and a wide selection of appliances for you to use as you prepare a hearty lunch for the whole group.

Serve up at the dining table as you discuss your plans for the evening and look forward to the many more action-packed days planned for the remainder of the holiday.

Place the dishes in the dishwasher and clear the table before getting the fire going by placing a log on the woodburning stove whilst the others gather on the sofas to select a blockbuster movie for all to enjoy, from Netflix on the Smart TV.

Later in the evening grab a board game from the many available and delight in some friendly competition around the dining table.

Tuck the children up in the bunk bedroom and send them off to sleep with their favourite bedtime story before heading back downstairs and cracking open a bottle of wine.

As the entertaining evening draws to a close, pick yourself up and carry yourself off to bed; there are three further bedrooms to choose from including a roomy king-size, a delightful double and a twin bedroom, all finished with charming oak furniture and crisp white bedding.

Indulge in a morning soak in the beautiful roll top bath with claw feet that can be found in the first-floor bathroom, complete with an overhead shower, hand basin and WC.

Play with the kids on the lawn on a warm summer's day whilst the chef of the group prepares a picnic, so you can bask in the sunshine as you dine alfresco.

Perfectly located in the Dysynni Valley and a short drive to the start of the walk up Cadair Idris, these two popular locations are great for starting a family ramble.

Start your day outdoors with a hike up Craig Yr Deryn and embrace the magnificent landscapes before descending back to the property and heading to the historical Castell y Bere.

In Tywyn why not visit the small Talyllyn Railway, perfect for some steam train spotting or hop on the train at Fairbourne Railway for a scenic journey with picturesque views.

Take the Barmouth Ferry over to Barmouth Harbour for a stroll along the beach before hitting up the local shops for a souvenir to remind you of your holiday and dining in one of the local cafes.

Visit the popular seaside town of Aberdovey, a small village on the side of the River Dyfi in Gwynedd, a perfect spot for weekend coastal walks.

Whether you're exploring the Slate Caverns in Harlech or learning to surf in Snowdonia, make your next holiday a memorable one at Peniarth Ganol.
